Here is an example of why using hairs is not a very accurate or good idea to judge when a plant is ready to chop. If ya did, you'd be cutting this one down and it's just not even close to ready yet....believe, or not.

Believe it or not - this lady probably SHOULD stay alive another 7-10 days.

So PLEASE - man up and get a radio-scope. Go by the trichs and pretty much ignore the pistil colors. You shall truly be rewarded in the end my friend!

So how do you tell when its ready, when the trichs are all cloudy or clear? iv never heard of this . i always went by hair color. please explain the steps in telling wether its read:smoke:

Depends on the kind of high you like.

The trichomes are the little sugary crystals on the bud. While you can see them with the naked eye, you can't examine their internal color without magnification in the range of 25x-75x. The trichs start out clear, then as they near maturity they turn cloudy and then amber. Don't be surprised if with some strains you see some colored trichs as well, purple and red.

Follow the trichs! The colors tell you where the plant is in terms of its production and subsequent breakdown of THC.

The early end of peak harvest time is when the trichs are about half clear and half cloudy. Harvesting at that time will give you more of an 'up' head high, more like a sativa high because of the high THC content of the trichs. The late end of peak harvest time is when the trichs are about 25% cloudy and 75% amber. Harvesting at that time will give you more of a body stone 'couchlock', more like an indica hight because some of the THC has degraded to the other cannabinoids by this point. Between those two ends is a range and a spectrum that you can choose from to tailor the harvest to your tastes.
