So i started with a pretty small budget, around $150. My first plans were to just let it grow in my closet under a couple of fluro's but then realized that might lead to some land lord issues so i decided to buy a 50 dollar Cabinet from walmart and customized/reinforced it to my liking.

I have about 4 feet total of grow space including room for lights, so im considering either LST or ScrOG.

The setup includes:

  • A cabinet: painted white in the grow chamber part, and sealed with foam tape
  • 2 x 10.5 in. Reflector( i don't know the technical term for it)
  • 2 x 26 watt CFL's 6500K, 3600 lumens combined (in one of the reflectors)
  • 1 x 68 watt CFL 2700K, 4200 lumens (in the other reflector)
  • Miracle Grow Organic Potting soil(all i could find in the middle of winter)
  • 2 pots
  • Little gadget that measures temp and humidity and tells me Hi/Low for the day
  • 21-18-21 fertilizer(i think made for tomatoes?)
  • I still need a little fan but cant find one anywhere...
I first started by germinating some seeds out of a bag of some good lookin herb and was 5/5 on getting them to work

I moisented the soil, and dug a hole in the middle about 1/2" deep and then planted 3 seeds in one pot (Pot A), root facing down, and 2 in the other(Pot B). (I plan on choosing the best looking plant out of each pot and pulling out the others.)

I placed Pot B seeds under the reflector with 2 6500K lights in it a couple inches over the soil, and placed Pot A under the reflector with 1 2700K light.

I know 6500K is best for vegitative groth and seeds, but i dont have the money to buy more of them right now plus another 2700K light for flowering, but i should soon, so im going to let them go for now.

Questions:

  • My grow space is about 2 x 1.5 x 4 feet (WxDxH), is this enough room for a 2 plant ScrOG grow?
  • Will POT A grow fine under a 2700K for a couple weeks?
  • Is it possible to use these lights all the way from seeds to Harvesting?
I will have pictures later...Im actually posting this while out of town.

One thing you might not want to hold off on is that soil. MG is really bad. Go to the grow shop and buy the absolute cheapest organic soil they stock if you have to, but it would be a smart move.

Everything else is looking good tho. It's a good start for sure, congrats dude.

For future ref... consider planting each sprout in its own soil, even 16oz party cups are fine. By planting 3 in one pot and 2 in another, the roots are going to become intertwined and will be difficult to separate as time passes. I spose it makes some sense to make them compete, but why? And yes, you can just snip the stems of the ones you don't want at the soil level to kill em off.

As a rule, though, you should give me each their own start, then transplant yer best performers into pots by themselves. Just my .02... Sounds like a good start overall! :D

Just got back and three plants have already sprouted, quicker than i expected:hello:. Pot A, the one with 3 seeds, dried at the bottom, but the soil still is moist, should i water it already? Its been 2 days since i have.

Pictures of what I'm working with:

All 5 have now sprouted, how should i choose which 2 plants to continue growing?

And also, should I rotate the pots daily so they get a better mix of the 2700K and 6500K lights?

IMO, wait till the end of first week then choose the two with the strongest stems and best leaf sets.

Thanks jonaconda. My humidity is hovering around 28 percent. From what i have read its not really a huge problem, but would the plants grow better in a higher humidity, and if so, how do i increase the humidity? (I set a cup of water in there last night but there has been no change so far.)

I just changed out the 1 68 watt 2700K for 2 26 watt 6500K bulbs because the Pot B plants are looking WAY better than pot A plants. Hope this works well. Any suggestions please comment...

misting your plants regularly will help raise the humidity more i think than just a bowl of water alone. try it out and see

Does this look like over watering? I only water every 3-4 days, and my humidity in the cabinet is usually around 30% so I didn't think i was over watering but the leaves are droopy...

Don't mist your plants, it causes more harm than good. You can try misting a sheet of glass and propping that up in a corner of the box, the glass will heat from the lights and the water will evaporate off it raising humidity.

No grasscity, I didnt forget about you. I have been messing around with my setup quite a bit, and am now using a mini fridge (4.6 cubic Feet), with 6 23 watt 6500k bulbs. I just ordered fans for the box, so it should be complete so i can actually shut the door here in like a week, but for now, I have pictures.

The one on the left is actually only a week or so old, the one on the right, which is considerably smaller but has way more leaves is about 2-3 weeks old now.

Also, does anyone know where i cant get a splitter similar to the Y splitter for lights, but in the shaped of a T, so the lights are flat, to give the plants more light and room to grow?

Looks like there's very little headroom in that mini-fridge, what do you plan to do when they grow?

i got everything except the soil at home depot, they are nvision or whatever the brand is, and they work great.

Does anyone know how to drill holes in the back of a mini fridge? I used a 2" bit and got down to the metal panel in the back, which i originally didnt realize was there.
