Hey City! I've been reading the good stuff all around here for a long time, but now I have to share something.

About a year and a half ago, I started having diarrhea. I thought that I ate something bad, but the next day, I went to the restroom and I there was a little blood in the toilet.
I went on a strict diet of only oatmeal/vitamins for a week, and then I eased into boiled fruits/vegetables, all the way up to meats and breads throughout about a month.
The blood stopped after that first week. I had visited Urgent Care when it was going on. and they took blood and x-ray and said everything was fine and nothing was found.

Well, this happened again after a year, about 8 months ago. I did the same thing and it got better fairly fast. I was instructed to collect my stool into these special receptacle, but as it got better, I sort of forgot about it and lived on. I smoked weed throughout both instances.

Three weeks ago, I had it happen again. This time, there was a lot of blood. It has been three weeks and I am still bleeding. I went to the ER and they did a CAT scan, and said they didn't find any forms of colitis. (the doc said it could be a bacteria imbalance, or a weak blood vessel).
I quit weed this time because when I was in high school, some of my friends had their wisdom teeth taken out-- They had told me that it was funny because a pamphlet that they were given stated that one should stop smoking marijuana a few weeks before the operation, and to not drink alcohol for 3-4 days prior, so that there isn't a problem with bleeding of the gums.

I am going to have an appointment with a gastro specialist this week, but I just wanted to get some other opinions on a few matters.

    Now, I don't think I have Crohn's, as I don't have any joint/back/bone/rib pain.

    Symptoms:

    1. My ONLY pain is when I go to the bathroom, and its in my abdomen.
It feels like I have a big shit coming, but all I have is very liquidy diarrhea and various amounts of blood. And it feels like I have to run to the bathroom before it happens, and it feels like that throughout with just a bit of pain.

    2. I wake up 2-3 times in the middle of the night to go.

    3. I lost ten pounds in the last 3 weeks, and I have always been skinny, so this is a problem for me. I have a VERY hard time gaining weight, and usually I try to eat well, yet throughout the day. (not now, as I am on a strict diet).

    4. I'm generally tired, but not completely fatigued. I'm never bothered by this except when I see food and food joints, and when I go to the bathroom, especially at night.

    5. During the first week I had a lot of bloating, my gas and stools smelled unusal and rancid, unlike regular shit. After that week, it just smelled like regular shit, lol. This led me to believe it had to do with bacteria imbalance.

I have been told by doctors that this could be Ulcerative Colitis, but I won't know until my colonoscopy. I have only 2 serious symptoms, so I doubt it is any form of colitis, which I read involves other types of pains and such.
They told me not to go on a diet until they know what it is, but this has got to be complete bullshit, because I have more blood when I eat regularly, so I know I have to be on this bland/soothing food diet.

As far as the bleeding, what do you guys think about smoking weed? When I was doing it a few weeks ago and this occured again, I immediately thought of the wisdom teeth pamphlet (how you need to stop smoking weed a few weeks before the operation so the gums don't bleed excessively). I'm definitely not going to smoke until this is over, but I'm just curious if the weed is causing me to bleed more, since I don't "need" to smoke weed, as I have no pain. Even when I was high a few times, I went to the restroom and my abdomen had the same pressure and pain, which isn't that debilitating anyway...

    Thanks for any input...

  2. well i've read that smoking marijuana lowers your blood pressure. so no i don't think the weed is causing you to bleed more

  3. Anyone here who has colitis of any form, how do you keep it in remission, or make a flare go away really fast?

  4. My hubby just went thru the blood in the stool thing. He lost so much his blood count was down. After a colonopscopy the doc says it is diverticulitis. The bleeding stopped on its own but scared me near skinny. At age 67 anything that happens can be bad, bad, bad, but Praise God it wasn't. Doc said if it becomes a recurring event he will take agressive action. Dunno what, I didn't ask!! He goes back in a month for another blood check.
However he had NO symptoms except the blood.
I pray whatever is causing it is something easily fixed. Good Luck, and more prayers.Always scarey when blood comes from places it's not supposed to!! OH

Doc said it was nothing he had eaten, nor was it booze!! No of course doc doesn't know our dirty secret!!!

  5. i have had inconsistent and sometimes painful stools for the past few years. i even bled a couple of times. marijuana seems to keep it more consistent if anything. the reason for that is i think my bowel problems are due to stress. good luck!

  6. Note this is my fiancé talking not me:
Ok first of all you need a gastroenterologist.. You need to have him to an upper endoscopy and a colonoscopy, and if possible, try to get him to use a pill cam. You need to be checked for Chron's Disease, IBS, and Colon Cancer. Diverticulitis is also a possibility, but usually the symptoms are a little different. IBS is usually going to be what they diagnose you with if you don't have any of the others b/c there isn't really a test for it.
it could also just be hemorrhoids.. if you have them they'll find it in the colonoscopy

    I has a smart girl:D

  7. Yeah, you really need to do the tests to figure out what it is. I have Crohn's, and it started with mild bleeding years ago. It progressed with time, and it needs a more aggressive treatment now (starting new I.V. drugs tomorow.) At first I thought it was hemorrhoids, as did a colo-rectal surgeon. He wheeled me in for what was supposed to be hemorroid surgery and I came out with a diagnosis of Crohn's disease. These can be frustrating diseases in that not everyone's symptoms are quite the same. I think you've received some good advice here. Get it checked out and see if they can diagnose the problem.

As to MJ: I have not noticed that I bleed more when I smoke (I bleed every time I go, but it doesn't seem to make any difference one way or the other.) If you are going to have colonoscopy, it might be a good idea to lay off prior. There is some (slight) bleeding risk from such tests.

Oh- my first "irregularity" that my GI saw from my Colonoscopy was a couple of "fissures." They are like cracks or cuts in the lining of the rectum. That seemed to start off the bleeding and it hurt when I'd go. I have abscesses now that wake me up to go in the middle of the night too and give me night sweats. They make it feel like you have to go and can cause stomach pains (they do for me.) I've lost a lot of weight lately too (20 lbs.)

    Best of luck!

  9. Have you had your checkup yet? Don't leave us hanging. DH did not stop the weed prior to his colonoscopy, and the bleeding hasn't started again.
    OH

    I-O!

Sorry that I didn't respond recently. I've just been trying to keep stress down and been sleeping a lot. Thanks for all of the input, that really got me thinking about things.

Yesterday I had a colonoscopy. I'm not sure if he did a deep endoscopy or whatever, because I was fucking cracked out on Versed (midazolam) and Demerol (meperidine)... IV. It was a tube camera up my ass, not a pill.

So anyway, I got diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. I was still pretty high so I kept asking him if he was sure its UC, and not something else, and if he has a video so I can watch it later. He said he had no video, but a paper explaining what I had, and my treatment. It says that I have Ulcerative Colitis in the whole colon (which confuses me.. I REALLY want to KNOW and SEE what it looks like, so I'm gonna have a good talk with him when I see him in a week), and erythema's as well. It says a few other things, but I don't have the diagnosis on hand. Having read about UC, I know its a chronic illness, so my hope is that it will be in remission a lot, and have rare flares.

He put me on Lialda (mesalamine) - two 1.2mg pills morning and evening, and Rowasa (mesalamine) 4mg enema right before bed, and I need to retain it all night. I'm not sure if I need to be on it all my life, because I plan on not taking it after my flare ends, and to start an herbal treatment. Herbs worked in my last two flares... I'm pretty sure that high stress has caused this flare to go on this long (almost 4 weeks already, and still bleeding). Yet, I have normal hemoglobin levels, so I'm not losing a large quantity of blood.

It sucks being diagnosed with a disease, especially since I'm only 19, and have been a healthy motherfucker for so long, just kinda skinny. I'm just glad that it won't kill me, but will only hinder my quality of life, because I don't think that my body will let it flare up too much. Plus, I'll be careful when I start noticing stool differences, and hop on a diet right away to minimize irritation.

Now, I don't have any of that joint pain or back pain like I read about. I just want to smoke weed for the hell of it, and I had initially started this thread to see if I was making anything worse. So don't worry too much, because it's not causing me as much trouble as, evidently, it does for others.

Thanks for all the responses, and I look forward to hearing what you guys have to say.

EDIT: I've dropped all of my classes this quarter at my college so I can minimize stress. I just think that stress is a HUGE factor for my case of UC. Weed will probably help me with this. As far as appetite, it's even stronger now that I can't eat whatever I want, so that's not a problem either as it seems to be for many others.

  11. Ok, i have since started smoking, and nothing has gotten worse.:hello:

Then again, i havent gotten better yet :(

  12. When applying cannabinoids to a medical condition, it is best to get the cannabinoids into direct contact with the problem. If possible.

You might want to consider eatables. Brownies, cookies. Perhaps something that would take a little longer to digest to get further into the system.

Take it very slow and watch your body reactions very closely.

  13. ok i see your point...

but i cant eat certain ingredients in brownies, cookies, cakes, and such. I can have butter, so maybe i can figure out a way to put cannabutter into food that i CAN eat.

    thanks for the tip!

  14. I don't think marijuana had anything to do with your bleeding shits.

  15. I agree. But there is a possibility that it could help.

Wouldn't it be great if instead of being a possible problem it is discovered to be the solution?

  16. Look for eatables that would take a while to digest ..

  17. you dont get it. im asking if weed will make it worse. i know it didnt fucking cause it.

  18. What does your doctor say?

Again, doesn't seem to make any difference for me one way or the other. Remicade, on the other hand, is kicking my Crohn's ass right now and has greatly improved things.

Talk to your doc. They'll probably err to the side of caution and say that they don't recommend weed, but that it probably doesn't hurt anything. Cramping, nausea, appetite stimulation are all positives for Crohn's sufferers and weed. I don't think it thins your blood or anything, so I doubt it could make bleeding worse.

Don't get cranky with people. Stress makes things worse. ;)

  19. I could have been a little more clear.

First I doubt it would make it worse.

What I was thinking when I posted that is eatables normally would be absorbed in the stomach. It might be that something that would take longer to digest might get it into the area in question.

IOW I'm thinking along the lines of cannabinoid treatment. not harm.

floating by is right. check with your doctor.

  20. Just dont plug any weed.
