do those 'vitamin water' drinks acually do what they say

  1. i mean the ones advertized to give you extra 'Endurance' or 'Focus', do they improve your health in that area or is it just a gimmick?

ive been drinking about three bottles of them a day so any info would be great. :)

  2. Well to start, you aren't going to be healthy just because you drink Vitamin Water. It's not the same thing as taking vitamins, plus you are consuming A LOT of calories in those drinks that are unnecessary.

However, the Focus ones have worked for me, but it's because they contain things that will help you focus, if that's what you are really interested in, you can just get ACTUAL vitamins from the store that can do the same thing and cut out the extra calories from those drinks.

  3. or just keep drinkin' them because they taste delicious.

  4. they probably dont help you very much but they are tastey

  5. which compounds in all the vitamin water varieties are fat soluble and don't just flow through you if not metabolized (because of water solubility)?

I'm trying to see which is best short-term and long-term to consume, and that analysis depends on a little help from other nerds :) I'm not sure what specific compounds they use as antioxidants, because its a real general term, but does anyone know if the specific antioxidants in the "XXX" variety are fat soluble?

  6. I dont think they're better for then plain water or actual vitamins but I buy em all the time because they're .99 cents at the gas station down the street from my house. and they taste good.

  7. ya,,,theyre better for you than soda thats for sure, thats why i drink em. theyre better than the knock off flavored waters for sure

  8. yah I dont even drink soda only juice, regular water, and vitamin water (which I count as juice or cool aid)

They're certainly better than soda, and arguably water (outside of the sugar), but we're trying to figure out in this thread whether or not they are as healthy as advertised and/or even remotely healthy as eating the fruits and vegetables all of those vitamins, minerals and etc. come from. :p

  10. not even close

    vitamin water = sugar + water (+ purple:laughing:)

  11. Lets say you always drink at least 6 glasses of water in a day, one vitamin water instead of that 7th glass every once in a while could do more good than harm :p

  12. i suppose if you need the calories and sugar for exercise but anyway its a waste of cash imo but to each his own

  13. XXX is so fucking good!

  14. I would stop drinking those if i were you, i was liek addicted to that crap til not too long ago, not many calories and way too much sugar, i was probably drinking more than 3 a day, stop that cold turkey, now its just water, and ocasionally Powerade/Gatorade.
Taking a multivitamin everyday is good tho, Vitamin water doesnt really have many vitamins that you need.

  15. Vitamin water and powerade/gatorade will just add unecessary calories to your diet. If you want vitamins, find a good multi. The rest should be coming from clean, whole foods.

Also, cold water is the only actual negative-calorie food/drink, as it has zero calories, but your body burns energy to heat you back up!

  16. i lwant some of that purple stuff :bongin:

  17. majority of these are not actually good for you at all, any goodness in the vitamins is massively outweighed by the sugar and artificial sweeteners. Plus unless you have scurvy then you probably don't need multivitamin supplements, having a healthy balanced diet is the only way to get sufficient vitamins and minerals. Some vitamins if taken in excess of the RDA can even be toxic to our bodies and have serious negative effects for example excess zinc has been linked to reduced immune function. So i'd steer clear if your trying to be healthy and just eat old fashioned fruit and veg.

  18. meh all it does is give u capri-sun breath and make u wanna pee

  19. The more advertised and popular something is these days the worse it is for your health sorry to say.

Crystalline fructose is a fancy name for "corn syrup" that's most likely Genetically Modified. Contains FAKE vitamins in form of synthetic chemical isolates. More than 30 grams of sugar per bottle.. Can easily cause chemical-driven liver damage overtime.

TIP: Divide the grams of sugars in your drink by 4 to know how much teaspoons of sugar per drink. Would you drink a coffee with 8 teaspoons of sugar? I think not.

I mean if you want the truth but most don't want to hear it cause they live of the shit.

  20. that stuff is garbage. 3 a day!? dude, drink water. plain water. there is so much sugar and artificial colors and flavors in that. if there are any vitamins at all, they are most certainly synthetic vitamins and i highly doubt they would be of any benefit simply because any good is completely erased by all the bad.
