Hi Everyone @ Grasscity!
This is my first post on this site & I hope it wont be my last!
This will be my first hydroponic grow using the strain Lowryder #2 from the joint doc's.

Here's my set-up:
A 4x4x8 Hydrohut with two 2x4' ebb-n-flow trays.
A Hydrofarm Daystar AC reflector with flow vents.
A 600 watt lumatek digital ballast.
A 600 watt MH, and a 600 watt HPS.
One gallon of G.H. grow, bloom, and micro.
24 4"x4" grodan rokwool cubes.
A 120 CFM carbon filter.
An 85 CFM silent computer fan for in-line cooling (if it gets too hot).
A 110 CFM silent computer fan for exhaust to my filter.
Some 6" ventilation tubing.
& The last 25 Lowryder #2 seeds from my first lowryder 2 grow last winter.

Purpose::eek:
To generate as many seeds as possible for the coming years.

I still have a little work to do before I germinate... I've got to buy an AC to DC converter for the two silent fans, and I also need to wire them up.

I hope to have photos up soon,

Comments welcome!

CO GO GROW

At last I got an AC to DC converter to power my quiet fans.
I've also installed the fan that exhausts the air through the carbon filter. The fan that I can use for inline cooling is attached to the light and keeps the bulb cool enough without actually having it be in-line.
I've also begun germinating the seeds. I picked up a couple dozen 4" rockwool cubes that I will use as the permanent medium for the lowryders. I like using the hydrton clay pellets, but I figured that the plants would be small enough and their root base would be ok in a 4" cube. I also wont have to do any transplanting.
As for nutrients, I've picked up some liquid karma and additional superthrive, I need to get more peroxide cause I'm runing low.
I'm not sure whether using a sweetener would actually do anything while growing for seed, so for now I didn't pick any up.

I'll post some photos of the equipment I'm using and the set-up so far later tonight.

I also have a question on how to number the days a plant has been alive. Should I start once I can see the first pair of true leaves, or once the cotyledons have split the shell and turned green? Or should I just begin counting immediately once the root cracks the shell?
I'll post a couple photos in a couple hours...

:( Sorry for the lack of photos everyone. I can't seem to find my camera at the moment. But I did check the cubes and about 3/4 of the seeds have cracked their shells and have the root poking out. I set up the ebb-n-flow system and filled up the reservoir nearly to the top with 16 gallons. I brought the pH down to about 5.8, though I think I need to recalibrate it. The ppm is sitting at around 360. I added 20ml of GH Grow, Bloom, Micro, Superthrive, and liquid karma to the water. Right now I'm using the 600 watt metal halide bulb.

Does anyone know how long I should use the Metal halide before switching to the HPS?

I also decided that I would count today as day #1 of this grow.:hello: 10/27!!!

One last thing... I have my tent in an outdoor shed and my low temps reach about 60 degrees every night. The high is around 87. Is this an ok range? The winter is gonna be cold here and I think I'll need to address this problem eventually. Anybody recommend a small heater that would do the trick? Or shoud i use a fish tank heater and just stabilize the water?

And I'll keep looking for my camera. I took it on a hike the other day and forget where I left it. As soon as I find it again I'll post some pics, sorry for all the literature lol~!

To all,
Today is day #3 of this seed grow and I've already found something weird...
One of the mothers that I harvested to get these seeds had a unique phenotype of growing three leaves at each node. I've already noticed one seedling that displays this characteristic.

Here's a photo of the seedling:

Posted Image

It should become more apparent as it develops more leaves.

Anyways, 22/24 is the current germination rate:yay:; and a couple that have germinated did so upside down. Doh! I hope they survive!

I'll post more photos again on day 7 of the grow, when I change the water and clean my system out.

Anybody seen this trait in a cannabis plant before???
I've got some researching to do.

Happy Growing!

I have the same PH meter. Keep a very close eye on the calibration, it likes to go out of whack quiet ez and fast.
Works great though as long as it's accurate.

Yeah man, I've seen your r.i.u. thread too, it looks like we'll be cutting down our girls at around the same time! yeah I can't wait until these little seeds start to grow faster. the beginning always takes the most patience; except maybe for curing :)
and i live in the states... and i've voted for Obama. Are you in the UK?

Thanks leapfrog; how long have you had yours? I hear that eventually I'll need to replace some parts or something... neways i'll be sure and calibrate it once a week at the same time I clean and change the reservoir... 4 more days to go!

:) sounds like fun! lol

Today is day #4 and the pH dropped to 5.5, if it remains the same (or less) tomorrow I will add some pH up to the reservoir. The ppm today is at 330.
I've also tied a thin climbing rope from the top of the drainage pipe into the reservoir. The water from the flood table falling the 18" into the reservoir seemed too loud to me, so now it follows the thread down and makes a lot less noise. There are 4 seedlings starting to show their first true set of leaves. That's it for today! & again, I'll post pics up on day #7.

peace out all

thanks C>C> I'm trying to make a bunch of seeds (like 2000 or more) but I'm starting to think that I might try and cross the trifoliate with the next strongest plant in this 3rd generation so I can have more of them in the future. And like you were hoping, they do produce more bud per plant; really really dense buds. I'm gonna have to build a separate grow room for this plant and its mate I believe, and the other females I'll just grow for bud. I can settle for a couple hundred of genetically superior plants I can cross breed again down the road. Thanks for the input! :D

Awesome! Yeah I live about 45 minutes from there and will be driving through golden on my way up to the slopes. Where were you thinking of boarding? I've got a few tickets to copper mountain and I've got a pass to A-Basin, Keystone, Brek, Vail and Beaver Creek. Keep in touch!! :)

VOTE TOMORROW EVERYBODY!!!

Here's the early hours of day #8! sorry for the delay I've been watching HBO on the tele...

I've got my lights on 24/7 at the moment and I still have temp sways at night... it's always around 80 for the high and 58 or 60 for the low. I've taken the liberty of ordering a small "energy saving" digital space heater. I guess it kicks on only when it gets below a certain temp so its not always running. For $50 total with shipping and handling that doesn't seem soo bad.
I'm also running pure water to the plants for a day because a lot of them are still very small, I'll add the nutes back into the fresh reservoir when I wake... & the pH is sitting at 5.9 right now. let me know if ya want more pics, they're pretty boring right now tho.

hope everyone enjoys! time to drift away for 8 hours....:bongin: & :smoke: zzzzzz.....

Hey everybody. Happy Election Day '08...time to make a change thats been 8 years in the making!!!

CO - Not sure where we are going yet. My buddies have season passes (duh) and i think they have some comp passes. I'll find out what they think and let you know. We should definitely get together one day and ride (and toke of course:D).

It seems to me that by Feb. your pretty ladies should be just about done curing huh? I would be so stoked to see some buds in person that I watched grow from seeds here on GC.

Happy growin'

Peace:smoke:
