24 hr dark period before flowering?

  1. Well I like the way I was told about the 24-72 hours of darkness. When a plants in the dark it releases hormones, so an increase in dark hours will produce alot of the "dark hours" hormone, simple right. I think the 24-72 might be worth it (I think 72 hours is pushing it though). To me its worth it if you have a streachy strain that you can't let pre-flower. Also if you really want to get the jump of those pesky males it could be worth it to speed up sexing. But I really think that plants like their night time (I never put plants on 24 hrs) and their day time so rather than giving them 24-48 hrs of dark I'd cut their light to 6-8 hours a day and resume 12-12 3 days later. Also you could just slowly decrease their light schedule so they'll be getting 8-10 hours of light at harvest and 12 hours at the begining of flower, just like nature (well similar). Any way its cut it does work but I think any longer than 50 hrs is pushing it for some strains.

  2. its one of my favs fo sho so many quotes to use in daily life.

  3. Could extended periods of darkness (72 hour limit) stress the plants and cause hermies. Suppose strain would play an influential factor.

  4. "no more window love! go! go sell weed!"

  5. i saw this question earlier in the thread:
    could this be done outside?
i need my plants to finish before i go off to college september 21st. and i want a week to dry, so i practically have to harvest on the 15th.
if i did this technique on July 7th, would they start to flower early enough to finish (early misty)

  6. You mean it cuts force-flowering down by a week, flowering is genetic...

Yet this now begs the question, how do you know it cuts force-flowering down by a week? Most plants will show in under a week anyway from 12/12 INITIATION. How could you possibly know?

Light is the giver of life, this is why plants veg better 24/0... this is why increasing your light time to 13/11 schedule during flower will get you a larger yield. Most strains only need 11 hours dark to flower, some even less.

  7. I am currently in a 24hr dark period. Ill see how it goes.

  8. Arjan grows for feminine seed he likes to stress his plants to hermaphrodite. i would not listen to Arjan he is only after your money and will fill you with bull just to sound good and sell a seed. the original GHS was owned by shantibaba who sold it to Arjan. all the mother/farther plats such as the original white widow was shanti's he still as the original parents GHS do not have them shanti took them all with him , most of GHS are originally shanti and nevils, but Arjan likes to think and tell everyone that he is the original founder  the bloke is not very well liked iv heard he buys the cups he wins. nevils haze and Arjan haze LOL how many Arjan haze are there? they are all nevils that he now puts his name to

i dont know what this forum thinks of Arjan? any how i planted 18 seeds after 3 weeks veg i hit 12/12 ad gave the plants 36 hours dark and with in a week under 4 weeks from seed and less than 7 days i knew the sex of 80% of all the plants

  9. I'm with you... he doesn't buy the cups he just sucks dick. tosses a salad here and there, lol... ha ha ha, nah that last one's a bit sick even for arjan.

It's the whole GH setup I don't like... especially when they bring out cheese and trainwreck like the original genetics are nothing. sucker people with marketing ploys and commercialisation. They've turned the art of breeding cannabis into something of a joke. There are good breeders out there with far better skill that do not get the recognition they deserve because of the bullshit surrounding the HTCC

  10. I had plants under flourescents 24/7 for about three and a half weeks and then moved them to my flower chamber and they showed sex after four days.

I think I'll try that 24 hour period of darkness next time. I was satisfied with knowing in 4 days though.

  11. Did you notice a difference using the 24hr dark idea ?

  12. It really does make sense. Im sure you know about the leading theory on how plants measure light with a hormone. Imagine giving the hormone "floragen" 24 hrs to build up. By jumpstarting the hormones growth you would also cause the plant to have a stronger reaction to the transition.

Looking for a solid answer on this also..
Im going to go for a 24 hour dark as Im far along
through veg so Im assuming what I think are preflowers
    actually are.

I did as follows and am happy so far with results.

    4bulb t5 [veg] ~30-40 days
600wHPS [veg ] ~3 days (while dialing temps and making sure my tent was on point)
    600wHPS [ flw ] ~60-75days

**** The last three days I veg'd under the HPS it really helped get more tops up and
around the top canopy. It gives the small side shoots more help when you arent
trying to tie anything down ****

  14. i do this as well but i give it a 36 hr dark period, but in my experience, i do it so the plant stretches, during the 36 hrs dark, the plant looks for light, so it stretches and becomes a light lime green color at the growing tips. the reason i like to do this for the plant to stretch is for 2 reasons, when i flip to 12/12 the plant is very compact so the lower sites do not get any light, when they stretch they spread out and give the plants an even amount of light , the second is that the plants fastest vegetative growth is usually during the first 2 weeks of flower(the stretch), so instead of trying to counter act this, i just go with it and encourage the plant to grow, when you do switch the lights back on the plant will be starving for light and will grow with tremendous vigor, ive always used this method and always will

  15. Banned. Guess ill listen to the others. I happen to think think the dark period is very important. That is when the plant produces fRs hormones it uses to flower. Not enough dark and the hormone get flushed each cycle to be replaced by fR hormones. Which are veg.

  16. damn...I wish I knew this yesterday...just switched to 12/12...too late now I guess...sonofabitch.

  17. Any one still checking this thread should check out a product called ultra from bloom advanced floraculture(yellow bottle) it briefly suggest a 36 hour darkness period...... i have done a lot of experamenting with this idea and in direct contact with the guy who wrote thier feed chart, chris's secret schedule. It seems the plant goes into a state of sho k at 12 hours because there is no natural setting where plants would experince more than 12 hours darkness. As a reult the stock should start swelling, at 24 hours the stock will reach about double the size, and at 36 hours the stock will swell to nearly tripple the size. Adding the product ultra last feeding of veg rcomended strength, and at 12 hours in to dark at a double dose. Ultra has anatural hormone wich allows the swelling to stay, if not using ultra you should still see a size increase (all strains differ in this, saw the most vissible results on a sour D). It will also increase your sexing time, flower sets. Peace

  18. was told it works for sativas.. so i did it .. but i ran the seed first. an it went 18.. the clone with 24 hours dark before 11/13 ended up 17 weeks and was done a week early.. not sure if it was nutes.. or cause of clones.. but now wen i do run that strain. i do the 24 dark.. then 11/13 flower ..

  19. I'm a fairly new grower but here's what i did based on nature. The light spectrum of the sun turns more yellow/red when autumn comes around before day light savings(from what I've read) so i simulated that.
3 days before flipping i put in my hps bulbs at 18/6 and after the lights shut off on day 3 the next time they turn on its 12/12. I had shown sexes on 5 out of 6 plants in 3 days. By day 4 the last onr showed.
I did a straight flip from 18/6 to 12/12 first round with 5 of the same plants and it took over a week for sex to show.
    Just my experience.
