no brothers grimm anymore? C99 & A11 about to be extinct?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Seeds Banks' started by pokernaut, Jan 11, 2008.

  1. man, i just tried to find brothers grimm original Cinderella 99 which was still around a couple months ago to no avail. now, it looks like only joey weed has it through hempdepot and reeferman at his own site!

every time one looks, another place that had it doesn't anymore. about three years ago, it was available from half a dozen places for $25 feminized six packs to $80 knock offs.

anyone know of a seedbank that still carries brothers grimm seeds? i coudn't google anything other than grow reports.

it would be very sad if C99 became extinct as it's the coolest strain ever if it lives up to it's descriptions.

could it be that sour diesel is knocking it off the charts because everyone wants loud flavors and no-one wants stealth?

these are the only two places i know where you can still get cinderella 99 and her mellower son apollo 11 too for that matter

    C99

    A11

  2. i hope it doesn't go by the way side...i'm hoping to grow at least C99 in the future, maybe even A11. does C99 have about the same sativa as somethign like jack herer? the site says it only takes about 7 weeks of flowering, which makes me think more indica...but either way i am super excited to give it a try after the next grow or two. :D

  3. Goodness! I hope this isn't the last of Cinderela 99. :(

  4. C99 is SUPPOSEDLY a strain built from jack herer and something else, but i've seen conflicting lineages. way back when it was everywhere, i saw one that mentioned ice princess and something else. apollo 11 is C99 crossed with the genius pheno of jack herer. cinamon girl is another jack herer pheno, but only feminized if it's still around.

jack herer and super silver haze share the exact same lineage, but the mothers & fathers were switched in the final cross in super silver haze.

of all of these strains, C99 is the trippiest and most energetic which is why after literally a year of window shopping and trying to get info like pulling a tooth C99 is my favorite CANDIDATE. she smokes like a straight up giant sativa, but if memory serves me right, she's quicker and smaller than JH & SSH as well as much less skunky. reason #2 why i like her best. C99 is low odor floral with a pineapple flavor. SSH in particular really likes to skunk out.

A11 is trippy like C99, but the JH makes it less speedy and paranoid and more mellow and euphoric. back in the day, it was more popular than C99, but i DESPISE couchlock, so C99 sounded better than that to me too, but after smoking awesome kali mist, i can see where too much energy can be a bad thing too. i tried to sit back and trip out on that, but it wouldn't let me sit still.

finally, sour diesel has been compared to C99 as having a very similar high, but it doesn't appeal to me because:
    1. even if it has a real stron lemony flavor, i just can't groove with anything that also has fuel mentioned in it's flavor. it offends my tree hugging sinse (pun) abilities.
    2. it takes longer and grows bigger
    &
    3. it likes to really get skunky

sour diesel is far more popular, but to me, C99 sounds like an extremely well behaved & classy bitch. i hope she meets my expectations.

for what it's worth, my C99 splash beans have a little bit, maybe 12.5% or even 6.25% of giant potent and trippy lien huanh, but the old spice brothers reports claimed it was so close to pure C99 that it could fool connouisseurs and a little extra trippiness never hurts by my standards.

i also have a spice brothers' A11 that is a full 25% lien huanh, so it might not be as mellow as regular A11, but i wanted something with more lien huanh without having to get a 12 week plus giant.

as soon as i have sampled them along with the rest of my stock that leans towards sativas, i'll have some 1st hand info to share.

if my spice brothers' beans didn't work out, i was thinking of getting grimm originals down the road, but that doesn't look like it's gonna happen which is sad. all that's left is knockoffs.

  5. so you're saying its okay to get the cheap version of C99 from hempdepot and it will be the same and as trippy as the original from grimm brothers? if it is, im gonna buy em when they restock in mid 2008 , and when they arrive and throw em in the freezer untill im ready to grow em. i want some trippy bud to go well with my creativity instead of my getting lazy wanting to just eat and sleep. Do you think C99 will fit in a 5 foot growing space without low stress training or topping? cause know i don't know how to do either.

  6. size isn't an issue with C99. that's why i think she's so cool. she finishes in something like 42 or 45 days. she's actually faster than alot of alleged indicas.

as to knock offs, i can't say 100%. it depends on the grower. i know one dude i was talking to that grew out some seedsman malawi gold said it totally sucked and to try afropips if i ever try it, but i've seen alot of favorable reviews for nirvana knock offs.

it's kind of a dice roll. i'm kinda worried about my C99 splashes after hearing that spice brothers' beans aren't exactly the best, but it's what i have. i'd say try and find reviews for ANY strains from a given breeder you're considering. if they get nothing but the gas face like KC brains, stay away from them.

it's really hard to find great beans with so many breeders and strains out there.

i know i REALLY wanted to try extra grapey "the purps" after reading about it in the cannabible only to find that the original breeder is selling it, but crossed with something else if you read the fine print. for $100, i want PURE breding stock, or at least crosses that i approve of like C99 with extra trippy vietnamese trees.

check out these resources and see if you can find any reeferman & joey weed reviews

    reeferman
    http://www.onlinepot.org/OGStrainGuide/Strainguide/Reeferman_Seeds/index.html
hmm... pretty consistantly high rated, if rated. i'd say maybe go with reeferman afterall. i'd rather get top genetics even if it costs me a crushed bean or two

    joey weed
    http://www.onlinepot.org/OGStrainGuide/Strainguide/Joey_Weed/index.html
has two actual C99 revies, can't get any more specific than that

use this search engine to find out the lowdown on any strain on the market a couple years ago. i created it because the OG database doesn't show up on google etc.
    http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=001728990227694908145:kek5zf0mvzi

here's a great review site with strains listed alphabetically. specific strains & breeders are hit and miss, but it's alot easier to browse than randoom topics in chat forums and it includes ratings
    http://www.weedbay.net/modules.php?modid=15&action=cat&id=1

    another nice alphabetical review resource
    http://www.meduser.ca/viewall.php

this site has reviews of a few specific breeder's strains including brothers grimm, but no joey weed or reeferman, but it's still great for window shopping
    http://www.marijuana-seeds.net/reports/index15.html

and finally, this site is more about pretty pictures than detailed reviews, but you can search by different categories like breeders as well as alphabetical. i thought it also had a filter for reviewed strains only, but that must be a different site

these sites should be helpful any time you're looking to add new strains to you garden. bookmark 'em for safe keeping.

  7. In 07, I planted six of each; NL x C99, and A11 x C99, six plants each. Though the NL cross out produced the A11 cross in the same grow room. Both however, are incredable.
I did sog with clones from both over the winter, and and they do very well with short veg, and both clone almost by themselves. About seven days in coco.

I've tried straight C99 in the past, and found it to be a bit to much for me with intense paranoia. Just one more point...I've found HD to be simply excellent in customer service, and timely, stealthy mailing. Brussels

  8. Highrade Seeds Co. carries a C99 cross with Oregon Purple Thai. The C99 part is original Brothers Grimm seed stock. There are two grow journals currently on GC that are growing this strain. It's called "Purple Cindy". Looks killer!

  9. yeah, if paranoia is an issue, A11 is a better choice as it's C99 crossed with the genius pheno of jack herer. personally, i don't mind paranoia as long as bud is trippy. i MISS those paranoid but trippy highs i got from thai in the 80s. nothing since could compare but kali mist & durban poison were nice the times i had a gram of each.

i can't wait to see what's up with my 3 remaining C99 splash beans and 5 A11g X lien huanhs. i've never actually flowered them. just pruned them to death under shoplights for that "right now" buzz. next time, i'm buying lights first. i have a tendancy to procrastinate too much.

  10. Does Apollo 11 grow like Cinderella 99? I'm hoping Apollo 11 has the trippy cerebral effects, but with perhaps more of an indica buzz? Would it be a good candidate for SOG or SCROG?

  11. son of a fucking bitch! i typed a long reply and it fucking got eaten and lost when i backed up!

briefly, yes, A11 is more indy than cindy but maybe less trippy and more couchlocking too. it qalso might grow larger and longer as it's 50% genius (jack herer pheno).

paranoia isn't all bad. the most fun i've had is smoking the ONLY bud that made me paranoid, thai and more often than not, it made me really happy. only in stressful situations did it make me paranoid. unless you have a high strung easily worried personality, paranoia is manageable as long as you get high in "safe settings" shit, i survived driving by 8 cop cars at 35 mph on the highway and being passed on each side at the same time the VERY FIRST time i ever got high on that same thai! good thing it was raining and i had an excuse to drive slow.

also look into hawaiian sativa & burmese which sound alot like A11... lemony, trippy, laid back & euphoric.

i'm growing (A11g X lien huanh) X A11g & burmese myself right now and hope to have smoke reports in a couple months.

  12. Cinderella 99's Lineage

A seed from a Jack Herer bud from Sensi Smile was grown out and pollinated by an "Unidentified mystery plant". This resulted in a special plant called Princess. Princess was crossed with ShivaSkunk (from Sensi Seedbank), this resulted in P. 50 (or Princess 50). It was then backcrossed with the Princess to create P. 75. P. 75 was backcrossed again with Princess to create P. 88 (aka Cinderella 88) which again was backrossed with Princess to create P. 94, which is Cinderella 99.

  13. Thanks a lot for the great link to C99 and A11

  14. Poker,

Did you ever find a way to grow kali? I know a while back you (and I) were asking a lot of uestions about it. Did ayone suggest a sog or scrog grow with kali?

I think I read somewhere that the plant doent like to be topped.

Anyway, your info would be greatly appreciated.

  15. i'm working it out right now actually. i'll end up doing LST or SCROG i'm sure. if you're interested, check my grow out at
    http://forum.grasscity.com/grow-journals/223281-a11g-lien-huanh-cali-o-bubblicious-grow.html

i just stopped by reeferman's a few minutes ago, and he doesn't have and C99s, A11s or any of the other kick ass sounding sativas did just a few months ago anymore!

if no-one has C99 anymore after i harvest, i'll see if i can get this site's sponsor to give my C99 crosses out GC members as freebies with any order or something. that's my main point in growing seeded bud, to share grows with everyone i can.

i might sell them on weedbay for extra cheap too. i'm not growing for money. i'm growing because i haven't smoked regularly in the past three years out of disgust for nothing but indicas on the market and telling every dealer i've had to go fuck themselves the second they jerk me around or act like they're doing me a favor overcharging me for couchlocking bullshit.

if this site's sponsor doesn't want to hand out my freebies, i bet a nickel doc & gypsy would love to. freebies encourage sales right?

i just found out that joey weed will have C99 again at the end of may in another thread. YAY!

  16. Damn, I like that. So what's your opinion on indicas? Do you think indicas have polluted the cannabis gene pool?

  17. The link doesnt wok poker. Well atleast it wont for me.

You seemed to have done a lot of the research I was unable to do over the last year or so. I had a sick family member that took up a lot of my time.

Tell me some good strains to get.

I was thinking ww. Kali, did white russian turn out like everyone was saying 20% or so thc?

So there are no more c99 seeds?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Looking to order this next month.

  18. sorry big E. for some reason the URL was tagged with a search engine address. here, this link DEFINATELY works.
    http://forum.grasscity.com/grow-journals/223281-a11g-lien-huanh-cali-o-bubblicious-grow.html

i'll go back and replace the first URL

any time you get a crasscity link for a specific member that doesn't work, hit the search button in the green bar above, select advanced search and type or paste the members name in the window to search by member on the right side.

do i think indicas polluted the weed gene pool? FUCK YEAH! i despise indicas. why should i pay fucking $50 and EIGTH for weed thatdoes nothing but put me to sleep which i can do for free when a year earlier i was getting trippy weed i could party all day and night on for $40 a quarter the summer before?

in certain parts of the country indica is all you can get wherever you go. i actually lost a cousin from his ignorantly threatening a fight with me because i HONESTLY told him his typically stony bud wasn't special when he asked my opinion. he was convinced that "all weed was the same" and that i'm either an idiot which i'm far from or that i'm a liar which is "fightin' words" with me. i'd rather someone talk about my momma than call me a liar.

if i had my way, indicas would be eradicated from the face of the planet, but greedy scumbag cash croppers only want maximum yield indoor friendly indica dominants. all they care about is cash & quantity. where's the work ethic? where's the pride in craftsmasnship? i'm not growing my strains for cash, but even if i was, i wouldn't sell anyone weed i wouldn't smoke myself and i DEFINATELY wouldn't charge the sick fucking prices that weed goes for these days. it shouldn't cost more than the 1980s $40 a quarter for bud and it should be better than it is in most places too. it's twice (or more times) as expensive as it should be, yet the quality is a small fraction of what it should be.

if the 80s burst of amsterdam (they were indica HASH smokers before they started breeding BTW) seedbanks & indoor growing never happened, we'd still be getting pure sativa brick from mexico or even better connousseur batches of acopulco gold, panama red & columbian gold etc. we'd still be getting thai from thailand, but the gene pollution you pointed out has spread there too where most local bud there is hybridized too.

if i were a millionair, i'd scour the planet for what's left of the IBLs and create a seedbank where you could buy NEARLY pure (as it would take backcrossing to get beans from clone only strains) thai, cambodian, mexicans, kerala, vietnamese blackseed etc. as some breeders are at least CLAIMING that they still have those strains. DJ shorts built his entire empire on tutti fruity flavored highland thai. it's too bad he's not making THAT plant available to the rest of us.

every year the supply of pure sativas shrinks more and more leaving us about nothing but haze bastards. you'd think that SOMEONE in the seed business would be worried about the extinction of the only strains actually worth smoking.

  19. Pokernaut for President! :hello:

I couldn't agree more. Why don't you participate in any of the Indica vs. Sativa threads? Someone like you would actually turn one of those threads into a great discussion. I couldn't agree with you more. It's amazing how we lost so many unique strains. Not only did we lose these strains but we lost the possibility of breeding these strains. I wish I could have a chance to smoke some Panama Red, that strain sounds amazing, I hear so many stories from the old timers. I'm lucky to have smoked African Black Magic and Acapulco Gold (I got some Acapulco Gold seeds to). I would love to grow out some land strains. You should try to start breeding and start your own seed company.

Terrible news: The Joey Weed site has changed it's listing of Cinderella 99 from "Coming late May" to "Sold Out".

  20. Well what are we gonna do since joeyweedseed is sold out of c99? ive been looking at that strain for the last 6 months found a killer grow journal of it and it just looks amazing perfect strain
