PrettyBuds's 2007 Grow

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by prettybuds, Jul 4, 2007.

  1. Well I figure I'd post my grow so far. The grow is 4 plants total. The first two were started in May in peet pots and then transferred into their final pots. I don't put them in the ground because it's easier to move and come September/October if they're not done flowering and we're expecting frost I can bring them indoors at night to protect them until they're done.

The first two are feminized seeds from some nameless very good herb I got a few years back, this is what I've grown for the past few years. The other two, which I started on July 1st are some Early Skunk that fell in my lap unexpectedly, so I figured I'd just get them growing ASAP and see what happens.

I'm using Dierwolf's LST method, in fact, instead of forcing the first bend when I transferred, I planted then on an angle. The two that are growing were about a foot when I transplanted them, but I planted them deep to get more root growth higher up. They are both topped. The first is topped from about a week and a half ago and the second from about a week ago.

I'm using organic potting soil and fertilizing with FoxFarm Ferts, namely Grow Big (only during vegetative growth) and Big Bloom. I just got them so the first two got their first dose on the 30th, the Early Skunks have yet to poke their heads out yet, so I'm waiting until a week or two after that to give them a dose. I'm probably going to be giving them these ferts every other feeding.

That's about it. Let me know what you think and advice is always appreciated, especially on these ferts because this is the first time I've used them.

    Thanks.

First two have been topped and LST

  2. Plants look healthy so far, what method did you use to feminize your beans you are growing with currently, if i read correctly that they are feminized from a bag of smoke, im guessing you did the process yourself.

  3. Oddly enough, I'm just deducing that they're feminized considering I've been growing these same seeds for the last three years, and without fail, 100% female. I did nothing. But watch, now that I actually call them feminized I'll get all boys!

But for next season, I was thinking of trying to get some feminized seeds out of the beans I got of the Early Skunk. However, I've just been reading up on it and it's seems that I should just leave that up to the breeders. So for the Skunks at least, pray for girls.

  4. Quick update, on my way out this morning I peeked in at the two early skunks, and one of them has peeked through and opened. I hope that when I get home today the second will show through as well. The skunks have arrived. Pray for girls!

I'll get some pics of them up when they mature a little more.

  5. Good to hear man, i love anything from the skunk family, as im sure most of us here do...

  6. The second Early Skunk popped out as well. They were germed in water for 24 hours, then another 24 hours in a wet paper towel in a baggie. Then put in soil. So from start of germ to here, this is the 4th day.

You can barely see them but here they are:

The older two girls are doing well, even with this torrential rain we've gotten for the past 24 hours. The growth is starting to pick up on the inner nodes that are now getting full sun due to the LST and the topping I did is coming along nicely. More pics of everyone in a few days when there's more to report and they get nutes.

    Cheers.

  7. Everything is growing along fine, I had to adjust the tie down of the two bigger plants due to growth. I'll get more pics up at one point.

But I have a question. We've been getting torrential rains in my area everynight for the past week and a half or so. So these pots are essentially flushed. They're also soaked. My question is this, it's about that time for more nutes, but I don't want to give it to them while the soil doesn't need water. Our basic forecast is pretty much more of the same, hot during the day and thunderstorms at night. So I don't want to over water, but I do want to give them ferts.

    Any ideas or thoughts?

  8. Dont worry about feeding your plants again until you have somewhat of a dry spell unless they are showing signs of needing some. Rainwater is mother natures way of giveing your plants food, rainwater is quite good for plants and if you are getting a nice shower every night after a long day of hot sun on the plants, that would be my idea of perfect growing conditions, milk it for as long as you can, no need to go out and check on the plants watering them once a week...

  9. Thanks for easing my mind, they are growing nicely, some nice growth since the last pics. Have company for the weekend, so I'll get them up on sunday night or monday. But I had to adjust the tie down like I said, and the inner nodes getting more light now are starting to kick in nicely, I've got a vision of how nice and bushy and cola filled these babies are going to get.

  10. Here are some more pics, I figure I'd throw them up once a week.
I'm waiting until this soil dries out to give them another batch of nutes considering the amount of rain we've been getting. It's going to be sunny and hot for the next few days, so probably in a couple days they'll get fed.

These first two sets of pics are of the girls that have been going for some time now. I've adjusted their tie down and topped them both.

This one is growing nicely from the topping and will probably be ready to be tied down next week to continue along the outer rim of the pot, and one of the two new branches will be LST'd inwards towards the center of the pot before allowing it to turn up on it's own. The inner nodes are starting to fill in nicely with all the added light.

This one is topped but about a week or so after the first one. It looks like some of the leaves are being eaten a little. I had this minor problem last year as well and didn't do anything about it and it stayed just that, a minor problem, but any wisdom on this would be helpful:

Here are the babies, pray for girls. These are of the two Early Skunks, they're about 2-3 days out of the soil and are due for their first few days of some good sunlight, ever since they sprouted we've got crazy rain. So these two should move along nicely for the next pics, I hope. I think it's still a little early for nutes on these.

  11. Mine look like your two large ones, i got some gold skunk ( almost same as early skunk, has the earliest flowering time_ ) They are lookin dandy, how old are they? I think mine hvae been in soil since the starting of June. I havent hit them with any ferts yet, hopefully when i do they will jsut take off .

  12. Thanks Sandman,
Yes my two bigger ones have been in soil since around late May. Also when I transplanted them I buried them a little deeper as well. I JUST started hitting them with ferts about a week or two ago and only once so far, we've been getting tons of rain so I didn't want to over water them. Will hit them again this week.

With this weather that we've had I'm expecting some very nice growth this week, all rain last week, hot and sunny this week.

When do you expect your skunks to start flowering?

  13. I've got some bad news. I checked on the plants today, and the smaller of the two babies looks to be dead. It's folded over and doesn't look to be alive. It was just fine yesterday, I don't know what happened. We didn't get any more rain, which it survived just fine, or wind.

    Here it is YESTERDAY:

    And here it is today:
    4th-070907-dead.jpg

Anyone have any ideas? I doubt it can come back.

**UPDATE** - In trying to salvage that dead looking one, I just propped it up with two toothpicks on either side and tied it up, hopefully that allows nutrients to flow through the bent section.

  14. Just checked on the little one again, she's dead. Damnit, that was the skunk too, now I've only got one left.

  15. i had a crazy amount of small white wurms in my soil this year, most seeds were eaten before they eaven sprouted, some ended like yours, and only a few out of much seed made it. I blame the damn store where i got my soil.. maybe pick in your soil abit see if you find any bugs. When i noticed i kept them in a dark space for a while and then cleaned their roots from soil and put them in fresh soil in desinfected pots.

  16. Im hopin in the next two weeks i start to see sings of sex, AW MAN thats terrible i hate when i loose a baby! almost brings a tear! ahah, well you still got healty ones goin, hope it all works out.
When do you think i will start seeing signs, they are about the same age as yours, half (15) went in last wednesday in May and the other half (15) went in June 1st. Thanks man good luck with the rest of your op.

  17. Sorry to hear about your massive losses. What kind of soil were you using?

I'll dig around mine to see if I see anything. Thanks

UPDATE - I just dug around in the soil and besides decent root growth, everything looked fine. So I'm still at a loss as to what happened.

  18. Thanks for the condolences!

In my experience in the northeast, it's not about when you plant them, it's about the sunlight. Mine usually start showing sex in early August as the days get shorter, I typically look at all of July as Veg. That could just be my strain, I would expect that the Early Skunk might be showing sex before then considering it's an early flowerer. Which means that the last remaining one I have needs a nice growth spurt if I want to get any type of decent yield over an eighth!

One thing I kept an eye out for the last few years, no LST just let them grow naturally, is that when they start to grow with alternating nodes it's just about that time where sex shows.

  19. You should see preflowers anywhere from 5-8 weeks into veg depending on your strain.

  20. In one last ditch effort to try to salvage the baby that passed, When I watered and gave nutes to the others today I gave that one a nice shot of nutes too. I figure it won't do anything, but hey, why the hell not.
