Trouble Managing Weed and Fitness

  1. I am a naturally fit person. I eat decent foods.. my diet isn't pizza and gravy, but I'm also not ON a diet. I make healthy decisions if the choice is there, but I'm not afraid to eat at McDonalds if I'm hungry. I have been going to the gym most of my life, up until recently. I have had a hard time finding motivation to go to the gym, and to stay active. I'm only 25 years old, and I feel like I'm a little to young to have this much trouble staying motivated. I'm a regular toker. I smoke when I wake up, and have constant hoots throughout the day (one or two here and there) and then after 7 its just a smoke fest. I'm not a lazy person at all. I'm not a couch potato. I have also recently quit smoking about six months ago.

Does ANYONE have any advice on how to keep motivation up. Some people say its the weed, and I'd rather keep both in my life lol.

  2. Look into the Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson, or check out his free blog/webpage at http://www.marksdailyapple.com

This lifestyle change (not diet) completely changed not only my health in a positive way, but also helped me to overcome many of the obstacles in life that were holding me back.

As far as munchies go, you will have no problems if you follow the guidelines, which is a plus in my book. It's a definite adjustment, but nothing that can't be done, and it won't interfere with your toking practices.

  3. The weed definitely doesn't help.

My suggestion would be to cut out the hooting and push the festivals back to 8 or 9pm.

The workout has to become the priority, much like a regular job.

  4. First of all, check out what sort of weed you are smoking. If you are hitting a deep Indica then your motivation may be impacted simply because it is a chill out weed. Sativas do wonders for me in the gym and on the pavement biking.

I've always been in pretty decent shape but my fitness only increased after I started smoking. If you smoke the right weed at the right time and circumstances, it can become an incredible performance enhancer. I'm sprinting up hills high that I never could take in one swing sober. Quarter milers at about 60 degree incline.

Another good tip is learn to cheat yourself if need be. If you generally become a couch potato after smoking, or simply don't feel like doing anything physical, then make sure you leave the house for a jog the moment you smoke. If you have a nice and safe area for jogging, weed only makes it so much better. The key is to get out of the door the moment you smoke and not sit down first. (This is assuming you are a sane normal high and trust yourself outdoors)

Consider changing your workout regiment. One thing weed has always been known for is being a consciousness expander. As such, you may simply be bored with your old routines. Do something else.

This is why I strongly, strongly favor biking, both road and mountain. The faster you move, the faster the environment around you changes. Very dynamic workout environment, as opposed to a gym where you occupy the same few square meters even if you spend hours in there. The constant changing of scenery is an added incentive to go out and bike.

So yeah, check your weed and your smoking habits. It's a matter of calibrating your smoking to your workout desires and doing so with the right stuff. My hardest workouts (and craziest sex) came from weed.

  5. I'm starting my own grow tent, and I've just started reading the grow bible, and it touched base on that a little. I was looking at Indica to grow, but I'm finding that's a lot of the product I can find. So maybe if I'm going to grow 2-3 plants I should grow some Sativas. Then I could hit my home grown for the day and Indica at night. Thanks Oni.

I think I'm going to start doing something to that nature as well. My girlfriend smokes weed for medical reasons, and its kind of become something we like to do together. As she smokes in the morning I will continue to wake up earlier with her so we can have that time together, but i might stop smoking after the morning sesh until night. Thanks for the tip Newber!

  6. Workout early, and wait to start smoking until afterwards. Works for me, i'm going 4-5 times a week on average at the minute

  7. i say smoke after you work out/exercise. I went to the gym daily for 3 months, then 2-3 times weekly, to none at all. The child weather and smoking more often had made me lazy.

Smoke weed after going to the gym and see if your routine improves.

  8. While I smoked last year while gaining weight (anorexia recovery) and lifting weights, I never ever smoked before working out because I just felt unmotivated and funny. Also I don't think it's safe to work out when you're not fully oriented cus you don't want to get injured (unless you're doing easy stuff like pilates lol)
