Help with cold grow rm

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by nlftw, Nov 25, 2015.

  1. Currently in a small room. Have 2 tents , flower and veg. I currently have my 4 ft t5 in veg and a 400hps in my bloom.

Current temps are as low as 52 and high of 65

My winter plans were to switch out my t5 for a 400mh (left on 24hrs) and exhaust it into my bloom tent or directly into the room to heat it up a bit. And then my exhaust from my carbon filter through my bloom hood.

Would it be better to completely scrap my cool tube system, and then run my carbon filter to outside instead of through my light? Thus heating things up and still scrubbing and exhausting.

Its obviously my bloom tent I'm most worried about. Its getting to be low, with a temp swing of at least 10-15, which is no big deal but 65 is to low for me.

    Any suggestions would help!

  2. Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You're in no real danger of killing that plant unless you get a whole lot colder than that. They're a whole lot hardier than most people give them credit for. Around here, we'll leave some of our outside plants right up until we're sure of frost and they do fine. All in all, they're weeds and have survived all kinds of conditions for thousands of years. Our room ranges from low to high 70's but has been a lot lower and a lot higher at different times throughout the building of it. As long as you don't go too extreme in either direction, your plants will be just fine.

  3. Wait, are you using a cool tube?

  4. spend $100 on an electric radiator to stablize your ambient room temp. Or buy a small Lasko pedistal quartz heater and set it in the tent, just don't let it blow directly on a plant. Or, do a little research on cold loving pot seeds. Personally, I like to let my buds get cold at night in the last two weeks before harvest.

  5. Yes my 400 mhm is cooled, and so is my 400 HPs. I hasn't decided if I should leave my 400 hps or put in my 600 cooled hps.

Honestly a heater is not really on my radar. I'm trying to use as less electric as possible, and just don't trust them.

But yea my plants are crazy colors right now.

I've had plants hrrm on me before, I still will replace the t 5s for my 400 mh, the t 5 is too cold for winter, and I think it will heat things up a little.

  6. Cold lights off temps seem to be going around right now,
Flower tent is high 50s lights out and mid 80's( brought it down from low 90's) lights on, I don't know if it's the strain or what , but my girls LOVE it
That's a fairly consistent 30 degree (+-) swing, no ill effects so far, tric development is good, aside from a bit of purpling, we'll see how the last few weeks play out

  7. This is why my lights always run at night. Summer days are too hot, winter nights too cold. Remove the glass from my hoods to run them open during winter.

Also adjust my ventilation so the exhaust warms up the basement instead of venting out the window like it does in summer. It helps.

  8. My flower tent is ran at night, veg constantly.

So u think I should forget cooling my hoods and take off my glass? It would be easier than switching lights

  9. I'm getting ready to do the same as what thicken dense proposed. I'm on low low ventilation and hitting 85/90 high which is perfect. At 3 am in the morning. Enjoying the low energy cost for ventilation and perfect temps while I can, ya feeeeel? ;)

  10. I think so, I just need to take apart my ducting and just vent from my filter and straight out. Right? I wanna call my local head shop and see what they have to say

  11. My tent is in a cold location. I use a radiator heater to heat, relying on the built in thermostat, and I use a reptile thermostat to activate an additional exhaust fan when the temps get over a certain level. With this system, it's easy to keep my tent temps within whatever range I choose.

  12. That would work to definitely kick up the temp, but like T&D said, if you can take off the glass try that first. The cooler the bulb is the longer it lasts. Having some ventilation hooked up to it would extend life, hence just removing the glass would be best, but idk if that's even possible with mine. Might just hook up a little 4" fan blowing in the direction of the tube to push hot air away.

  13. With my mh its not possible to take off the glass but both of my HPs hoods can.

    That's what I do.

I'd like to get one of these for my 4x8 tent, they come in 800w models. Maybe some sheets of styrofoam insulation to help keep the heat in, that way it won't run constantly and will be cheaper on the electric. My basement gets down to 58f mid winter if I don't heat it.

  15. Ok here's the deal.

I still have my t 5 in veg. I dissembled my cool tube for my hps. And the had my carbron filter exhausting out of my window.

Problem. The fan is now very loud, and I can hear it from outside. I planned on getting a dimmer for the booster fan, but til then I moved my exhaust to just exhaust into the room itself and I then sealed of my window port.

Am I cool to let it just exhaust into the room or should I buy the dimmer and dump that clean air outside???

  16. Shit got too hot when I did that! It got up to 90. I put back the cool tube, but I'm still not exhausting it out side, but directly into the grow room. Is this going to fuck up things for smell??? Or should I just go back and exhaust my hot clean air through my window???
