On another thread I heard claims that Naom Chumsky is the world greatest intellect and smartest man. The guy is dross; senile; and a windbag.

Professor Stephen Hawkins or Richard Dawkins are probably the two greatest minds on the planet right now.

  2. No such thing. Each and every mind is equipped to solve specific problems unique to their own.

Mark Zuckerberg is a great entrepreneur.. probably not a very good physicist.

Albert Einstein was an excellent physicist, probably not a good mathematician.

John Nash was a great mathematician, probably not a very good conspiracy theorist.

Stephen Hawking is a great astronomer and writer, probably not a very good public speaker.

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. The key is to make use of them and refuse to listen to people.

  3. Sorry but this is a nonsense. Socialism is so rife that people even use their political belief to paint everyone the same shade of grey for the purposes of intelligence too now.

You're telling me that Kim Kardishian (for example) is as smart as Joey Barton? hahahaha Impossible!

  4. Noam Chomsky deserves credit but he's been off on a bunch of stuff in the last half decade, and has more ideology than logic in him, tho there's plenty of both

a lot of the genuine black belts are camera shy, or not in medias, that needs to be said

lot of public intellectuals on your list but there are so many bad motherfuckers out there working on lasers at CERN or peace deals at UN or collecting fields medals that we never hear of

So yeah considering it a taste thing, my favorite public intellectual at the moment is Sam Harris; I think he's one of the most prolific rational analysts we have alive today, a subtle beast with quiet rhetoric

  5. Ahh he's just a commentator and he looks too much like Ben Stiller for my liking. Stephen Hawkins would destroy him in an iq test

  6. Those three claimed attributes have no real bearing on intelligence. That is an assessment of personal character rather than intelligence. It is very possible for someone to be intelligent and come across as a jackass.

Hawkins and Dawkins both study different things. Hawkins studies physics and is known for his in physics in public.
Dawkins is very smart, but is better known for his work in atheism rather than evolutionary biology (which is his academic specialty.) Dawkins is not as important to biology a Hawkins is to physics.

I have never heard of Joey Barton. He probably has some greater significance outside of this discussion on intelligence.

Mark Zuckerburg is a bit like John Browning; both are famous inventors.

    Wiles is pretty cool.

  7. Yes I include Dawkins in the list as he is a free think - rather than his biology skills.

Being a windbag is a fair assessment of Chumsky. He goes on and on and on and on about the same old boring shit. He uses 10000 words when a few will do - this shows a lack of intellect. Also if he is so smart how come he hasn't worked out he smells of urine and needs a shower/change of clothes!!!!!

  8. This reminds me of something that Alan Watts spoke about.

He described a meeting of geneticists, who upon assembling a group of religious and philosophical leaders, asked what kinds of humans would be preferable to breed. Watts responded, "how will those of us with inferior genetics know what is genetically superior?", and that they should breed every kind of human, since we do not know what kind of personal traits humanity will require in the future.

It is very possible for Kardishian to be smarter than Barton. While Barton tweets tiny snippets of Nietzsche and Orwell on twitter, Kardishian has managed to acquire a fortune ten times larger than him with much less work. That is really the opposite of socialism.

You are also using the US definition of socialism, that socialism is whatever is considered to be wish-washy, moon-batty, or liberal.

"Also if he is so smart how come he hasn't worked out he smells of urine and needs a shower/change of clothes!!!!!"

    This is poising the well.http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Poisoning_the_well
Even though he may or may not smell like an outhouse.

"He goes on and on and on and on about the same old boring shit"

This is all of academia, in a nutshell.
The US has been doing the same shit abroad for the lat 40 years, so it is not surprising that people him sound like broken records.

"He uses 10000 words when a few will do - this shows a lack of intellect."

This is a legit argument, but the topics he works with are incredibly verbose regardless of who speaks about them.

Being a freethinker does not require or indicate intelligence. (It also does not indicate any lack of intelligence.)
Newton was very nutty on religious issues, but genius in many other fields.

  10. I do not know who the smartest or most intelligent person in the world is but, if the distribution of inelegance follows a standard distribution in every part of the world, they are likely living in China or India. And we have probably never heard of them (yet).

  11. Oh please she was born into cash and sucks dick to get that money. Barton came from nothing.

  12. Dawkins is an absolute twat.

    Kim Kardashian has social intelligence.

..something I don't have, for example. I couldn't make friends to save my life.. but I do know how to fix laptops and solder electronics.

    p.s.
Why does every conversation these days have to evolve into a Socialism vs. Capitalism rant?

    Americans.. .....

  14. He's says things a lot of stupid people don't like.
Social intelligence lol. She was born into money and sucked dick to get some more. Money is power, power gets you "friends". She's trash, money or not.

    Americans? I'm not American pet.

  15. First you denounce socialism, then you denounce people born into wealth?

    She worked hard for it.

  16. Yes, that's not inconsistent. There are different systems of political and economic thought other than socialism and capitalism. I support enither.

I wouldn't say she worked hard. I would say that she has worked with somethings that were very hard.

He says a lot of gibberish that makes no sense and tries to dress it up so that pseudo intellectuals will claim it as the gospel even though even they have no idea what he's really saying.

  18. "God isn't real". Doesn't seem like gibberish to me, perhaps you could clarify how so?

  19. Go and read any of his books.

  20. Nikola Tesla
    but he is dead...
Imagine how much more advanced we would be right now if his ideas weren't stolen and he didn't have his funds cut by greedy J.P. morgan.
