First Grow

  1. I finally got everything together for my first grown. I set up a clone/germ station, veg room and flower
room. I'm going to have a single plant in rotation for personal use. I'll be
changing up strains that will through off my timing but that's okay.

Anywho….I germinated a Violator Kush feminized seed a week
ago. I planted it directly into a 3.5 gallon pot of BAS living soil. I cooked
the soil for a long long time so I should be good in that department. Right now
I have a 3” tall plant that looks very healthy under a T5. When should I change
over to my 400w MH? Ive been reading conflicting information and I want to make sure I get it correct.

  2. Honestly you can switch now. Just start high with your hood and move it down slowly. A bit every couple days.
If its a dimmable ballast you can use that function as well. If it shows signs of stress it's too close. Won't take long before she loves all those lumens.

I put this seed in a cup of water a week ago. Took 2 days to germinate and then I stuck it in its pot. I wont be transplanting at all. I had it under a T5 for 5 days and switched to a 400w MH today. I'm going to veg for about 6 weeks and then flower for about 80 days under a 1000w HPS.

    All suggestions are welcome

  4. It will be fine under the T5 for another 3 weeks. You could switch lights now and raise the 400 high but why bother IMO - let it get established and become a good plant first. T5's are great for smaller vegging plants.

The wife and I spent all day finishing up the permanent veg and flower rooms. Way way more work than I initially expected. It was a pain but I'll be glad I did it in the long run. Got a 30amp feed and good ventilation now at least. I guess only time will tell if I designed it all okay. I'll post up some pictures after I get it all painted

  6. 30amp service? Ummm you could grow a fair amount more than one plant, just sayin.

I'm from the "don't put all your eggs/seeds in one basket" school of gardening. Start some more seedlings. You can and should cull the runts/weaklings. I prefer to start 10 seedlings of the same strain and cull it down to 3-4 good plants and take them to flower taking clippings along the way for clones since you have a VEG room your good. Don't be shy, plant some more seeds. Once you get this going then cull the clones... you'll soon see what needs to be done.

I get sort of "attached" to all the plants I start growing, but in the long haul it's counter productive so I get my wife to cull for me ... I'm a wimp, don't like to kill plants for some reason.

1K lighting you should easily be able to grow 4 plants in flower under that one light. Be sure you have adequate ventilation those lamps get HOT - can burn the house down hot. Be sure you're hanging hardware can handle the test of time.

  7. I agree Bob. I have a fair amount of seeds going right now at a family members house. His set-up is far more established than mine is so I'm letting him do all the work with those. I'll be getting 5-10 clones from him for my next rotation. Thinning it down to two (hopefully 3 if the wife allows). I just had this seed and a few spare months to practice so I figured I'd give it a shot. I planted my single feminized seed the same day as my family member planted 10 regular super silver haze seeds and mine looks the best out of the bunch. I hope I got lucky with good genetics on the first shot.

We tried to clone a feminized plant about 6 months ago and didn't have much luck. It rooted just fine but the end product was not as good as it was with the initial plant. Is this typical for feminized plants?
