Ever light up royally and play Civilization 5?

I've played just about every genre out there for the past 20some years, but this has to be one of my all time favorite games. Possibly the only game that can still take 8 hours out of my day as an adult.

I find if properly elevated, you can make the game into so much more in your head it's both fantastic and hilarious at once. You can overanalyze the hell out of every single move, and if you're creative, add personalities and names to your units. So your Archer Unit wouldn't just be your Archer Unit. It would be Scout Pete, or Legolas, or whatever floats your inner geek. The melee characters, like soldiers, are then Hercules, Leonidas, or Macho Man Randy Savage if you want. The point is, you make it whatever you want to make it at that moment. It enriches the game even further and adds an almost story like progression to each unit's journey. Especially if you keep them alive and upgrading for a longer period of time. What then happens to them in the game, like pulling off a clutch victory or barely surviving something keeps adding to their story.

The cities themselves are excellent for whatever immersion you are feeling at the time. Leaving the default names on is a bit boring and changing the names to whatever you feel like at that point in time adds more customization and personalization of the place . Even more importantly, if you're already good at the game and victory is assured, it's much more fun to focus on customization of the look rather than just sheer efficiency. On top of being strategically rich, this game is also just good looking. Yes, it's cartoony, but well done cartoony.

So excellent game overall, could not recommend it more and it definitely can get ridiculous if properly elevated.

For the life of me I've never been able to get into civ although I own pretty much every one, I've tried trust me. It's always one of the top played games on steam stats list, it baffles me so I try and play it every now and then and I never enjoy myself.

A mind game for me would be kerbal space program, I have over a thousand hours logged into that game and that's not including the times I logged out of steam due to embarrassment of how much I was playing, friends I haven't talked to in years were asking me if I ever sleep haha.

  6. Civ 5 is the shit. At least until Gandhi nukes you

  7. My buddies and I are all about risk the board game. Getting high and playing risk is were its at.

  8. I've been playing online versions of that lately.. used to play the board game all the time as a kid. I just played a different version called WarLight: https://www.warlight.net/Play Beat the Europe challenge.. but after that one I don't think I want to try the crazy or insane challenges.

As far as Civilization.. think the last one I played was 3, maybe 4. Fun game.. maybe I'll check out 5.. or 6 if it is out by the time I get around to buying a new game. I still have all my old Command and Conquers, Homeworld, and the Dune games.

  9. Man playing risk in person with friends is so much better plus the epic fights with eachother are well epic. I think people jave flippped the map like 3 or 4 times in anger.
