First time serious closet grow- how am I doing? Yield estimates?n

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by the closet monster, Nov 23, 2015.

  1. Alright so here she is, I know she's a female from the preflowers. She's around 3 months old under around 130 watts of cfls. Just wondering what some more experienced growers would think of her. Healthy? Any noticeable problems? Also how much do you think I can yield if I started to flower now? I topped it a few times until it had 12 colas, 4 main ones. I recently tied down the 4 colas to increase yield. 2. Looks decent, could probably use more light for the flowering stage, but overall, well done.

  3. Thank you! Sorry about the pictures being all out of order. The last pic is the most recent for sure though.

  4. Very nice for cfl. Just as plunderfull said though you're gonna want more light for flower.

  5. you may want to consider an hps light for flowering, even a 175 watt hps along with the cfl's you already have, I guarantee you won't be sorry. An estimate on yield is almost impossible to predict, it would be just a guess and only a guess, good luck

  6. I was thinking of adding one more 80 watt cfl. That wouldn't be enough huh?

this is good advice. find a low wattage ballast and bulb on craigslist or something. less than 400 watts will work for you.
you should be able to find an old set up for like 50 bucks easily that someone is getting rid of
you can also try to pick up a fan of some sort to cool it if you go with a 400 watt (lots of heat)
even a simple fan would do the trick for that honestly. blow cool air over the bulb, don't suck hot air from the bulb.

if you get a real light you could easily see 2 zips dry from a single small-medium plant
but quality is up to your knowledge and skill, and ofc genetics

and IDK what your set up is but remember its gonna get stinky if you do that....

growing this herb isn't cheap - but if you put the money into it and keep learning it will easily pay for itself

  8. but if you put the money into it and keep learning it will easily pay for itself, and then some!

  9. I would buy a light kit like this (this is new for only 90)
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Horticulture-400-Watt-MH-H...
but I would remember that I will lose a lot of horizontal light with this type of reflector due to the open ends...

in order to scrub the air and keep it cool, I would attach this 6" carbon filter (60 bucks)
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-6-8-10-Inch-Carbon-Charc...
to this 6" inline fan (only 25 bucks)
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-Inch-Duct-Booster-Fan-Ex...

and I would suck air through the carbon filter in the growing quarters, and push it over the light, and if I had an air cooled hood I would duct the other side of the hood out of the growing quarters from there.

this solution is easily 180 dollars new, and you could find the filter and the light kit for cheaper on craigslist or somewhere else near you like such

if your genetics are dank, even 1 ounce of harvest will have made this effort worth it - and the effort will make 1 ounce of harvest an easy goal to set

I hope I have helped you some

  10. Holyyyy cowwww! Well I consider myself a fairly experienced grower, but not with cannabis. I've worked at a greenhouse for 5 seasons now. I do have a fan of course! No carbon filter though. Would this work for the light? ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1448301972.831959.jpg

The brown stuff is bunny hair lolol

  11. that fan will work inside the grow area to move air around inside but your gonna want a fan to bring fresh air into the room, you also need a way to extract hot air out depending on the wattage you use, the higher the wattage the more cfm's you'll need, heat with hid is always a constant battle. I have a 175 metal halide bulb with a magnetic ballast m59 and socket I'm selling for 25 bucks so you can probably find something fairly cheap if you look around, I know when I started out 90 bucks might as well been 90,000 bucks, keep your eyes open and you'll be surprised what you can find laying around lol.

  12. Although a small HPS would be a beneficial investment, it brings a lot of different challenges to overcome especially in small spaces. Were as CFLs can be as close as 1-2 inches from your plant, even a small HPS bulb will need to be at least 6 inches from any plant material simply to avoid scorching it. The heat can build up more significantly than with CFLs too, making the extraction-fan thing more of an essential requirement, and you need a bulb, a reflector, a ballast, some hangers, and they are BRIGHT obvious lights.

I would suggest you finish this one with CFLs, but have in your mind how you will change things up when you get a HPS. Your plant looks quite healthy, depending on many many factors, even with your CFLs you should clear an ounce. You can make the most of your yield by saving the trim and making cannabutter or something

The tin foil is almost useless, and probably worse than whatever the walls are. Flat plain matt white is best (even though all the tents are covered in mylar).

Consider re-potting before you flower, even if you just lift it out and put an extra 2 inches of soil in the bottom of that pot. It'll want flowering soon, it can't get much bigger without a serious increase in light, but if you do repot it give it a week before you flip.

With such a long veg, the soil gets depleted and you should anticipate calmag deficiency in the near future. Repotting will mitigate that a bit because of the fresh soil, as long as it gets a chance to veg roots into it before you flower.

  13. I think I am going to stick with cfls based in what you're telling me how and o. But should I add another 80 watts? Will the nug be dense or will I need a hps for that?

That's actually incredible that you said I should anticipate a calmag deficiency because just yesterday I applied a foliar Epsom salt spray!! Good call man. What kind of nutes should I use for flowering? High in potassium and phosphorus right? But can I find that in a store? I've been using a water soluble 20-20-20 sparingly and it's been working good, though I know it's kind a general power fert..... Not ness scarily good that it's a triple 20 but oh well, should I keep using it for flower?

  14. whether or not the nugs will be dense or fluffy has a lot to do with genetics. Light can play into it, so generally speaking, expect lighter and fluffier when using cfl's.

Your plant looks really healthy, so I wouldn't deviate too much from what you've been doing. Repotting at this stage is good advice. Get her in a slightly bigger pot with some fresh soil. Once she seems happy with her new digs, do the flip.

I agree to stick with cfl's at this point, but I would definitely try to get some more in there as long as you can keep heat down. Some 2100k cfl's is what you'll want.

Lastly, keep in mind she can stretch a lot in flower, perhaps 3 times her current height!

  15. This is a bag seed too! I forgot to mention that.

  16. Also I need advice on nutrients! What are some organic flowering nutrients I could perhaps use?

  17. I use Espoma tomato-tone with excellent results. That and some wormcastings is all you need. Not much different from any other gardening project.

Foxfarm trio works great too, but it costs more and has the potential to cause problems if it's not used correctly.

  18. Anyone want to know how she is?

  19. Bring her on [IMG]

  20. Here she is, thank you for asking!

I'll go through from around week two of flowering and progress through to now, week 7, but sometimes the photos don't upload in order for some reason.

But anyways here's my girl! In total about 6 months old..... Eek.
