How long will it smell if I make cannabutter?

    So my wife HATES all odor. All of it. She can't stand the smell of:
    - Perfume
    - Flowers (they make her allergic)
    - Aftershave
    - Fabreeze
    - Soap (she has found one brand after many years of searching that is tolerable to her, but anything else, even plain soap, is hell to her)

    - Anything else except food. (She does like the smell of most foods)

    - And very most definitely marijuana.


    I smoke in our basement, put a towel under the door that connects to the rest of the house, and have a huge (rated for 5x the area of the basement) carbon-based specialized-for-cigar-and-tobacco smoke air filter down here. (I smell nothing within about 15 minutes of smoking in the room, and most of its gone within a few minutes). But she can smell it on me for up to like 45 minutes or an hour.


    Questions:


    1) So--if I want to try my hand at making edibles, how long a window do I need? I've never cooked with pot before, but I'm sure it gets pretty smelly.


    2) Anything I can do to reduce the smell, aside from turning the stove fan on max and opening windows?


    3) If I later cook with the cannabutter, will that smell like crazy too?



     
  2. You might consider setting something up in your private space there with the air filter. A hot plate or even a griddle can be used.


    My house will smell for a good couple hours after preparing a batch. I've finished and gone to bed, woke up the next morning and could still smell it, although i didn't try to air it out all.


    It's getting cold in most parts north now, but if you can open a couple windows and setup a fan I imagine you could clear it out in 2-3 hours. maybe give it 4-5 for a sensitive wife's nose :)

  4. toaster oven if you can do it outside... I have done it in winter just got to make sure its out of the wind and slightly covered.
    -
    if you do it inside make sure everything is sealed... decarb in a sealed foil pouch, let cool off before opening. and when mixed with the oil( organic coco nut oil is best, it some how neutralizes the smell unlike regular coco oil) make sure you can seal the top of the dish with foil to hold the smell in also let that cool off before opening
