Were my firecrackers cooked enough?

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by errllerr, Nov 15, 2015.

  1. Hey guys, This is my first GC post,
I have seen quite a few threads on firecrackers not working but none with valid answers to my questions.

I have a good amount of experience with firecrackers and have made them successfully quite a number of times, although lately i have had less luck for some reason, even with the same recipe.....

I used peter pan all natural peanut butter (17g fat per 2tbsp) with some olive oil mixed in.
Baked them on 320 for 22 minutes, just as i always have successfully.
I put .6 into each cracker (made 4 crackers). I know quality is not an issue as i used some very dank bud.

Now after taking them out after exactly 22 minutes, the peanut butter was still kind of soft, the crackers were not really browned at all, just slightly harder....
Since the peanut butter was still kind of soft and I could still see some green in the grinded up bud i am assuming that i have some undercooked firecrackers. Ate one on a completely empty stomach and did not feel a thing. The peanut butter/nug mix in the middle was not crunchy, more soft.

What i want to know is....

    1. Can i put these back in the oven to possibly finish cooking them?
    2. If so, should i put them back in on 320? I saw some recipes that called for 350 so i was debating putting them back in for around 10 minutes on this temp.
    3. How long should i recook them for?
    4. Or, will i be better off just eating all 3 and hoping that they work?

Hoping not too waste any more herb on these.
    Thanks!

  2. For the batch of crackers you have I think 22 minutes at 320 should be enough, BUT

The biggest issue I have with most firecracker recipes is that they under-decarboxylate, under-saturate and do not grind up the cannabis flower enough.

Edibles CAN be the most cost-effective way to use your weed, but you have to maximize what you use. Next time I suggest adding three steps.

    1) If you're decarbing weed, try putting the bud by itself in the oven at 250 F for about half an hour.(you can vary time and temperature, but try to stay under 250F to preserve more of the terpenes). Bottom line is the flower should come out dry, crispy, but not burnt brown.

    2) Take a coffee grinder and grind the bud to a fine powder. It should look like a fine grey flour when you're done. The finer the grind, the more surface area of the weed is exposed.

    3) Add a small amount of ghee or coconut oil to the peanut butter to absorb the powderized weed in a small saucepan. The burner should be extremely low, enough to melt the PB and oil, but not to burn the mixture.
Stir for several minutes to ensure uniform distribution of THC.

You may wonder if these extra steps are worth it erll, but I GUARANTEE that you will never wonder if you "did it right" again. Instead of needing .6 grams, you can get away with .2 or even .1 gram per serving.

  3. Thank you Quantary,

    1) when decarbing, what do you suggest i put the herbs in? .2 or .1 seems like a massive way of saving trees if it is effective, does this apply to people with a very high tolerance?

    2) Also how long do you stir and let the mixture sit on very low heat for? And when are you able to tell when it is ready to eat? How much peanut is needed for each serving?

I have used my recipe before without any issues and always grind the herbs up very well.

At this point, i just want to do whatever i can to not lose the other half eighth i have in my undercooked crackers.

Do you suggest sticking them back in the oven? I feel like it could absorb more thc, especially if i used a higher temp. If so what temp and how long?

  4. I decarb at 235 for 30 minutes, put inside foil or glass bowl covered with foil. Make sure your material is evenly spread, if it's stacked up the tempature won't be evenly spread.
Afterwords just add the buds to your firecracker and bake away, if you want extra potency you can cook it more like the above poster, or let it sit in the peanutbutter Mixture for a day or two. All methods should work fine, just keep in mind the more you cook it the more it tends to lead sleepy/ couch locked. Cheers bro and good luck!

  5. 1) when decarbing, what do you suggest i put the herbs in? .2 or .1 seems like a massive way of saving trees if it is effective, does this apply to people with a very high tolerance?
You could just put it in a small glass dish or jar. If you think you have a high tolerance, pay attention to what you eat in the hours before taking an edible. If you slowed your digestion down with meat, dairy or other hard-to digest foods, it's going to release the THC slowly, and you won't get that high.

Everyone's different. I use .2 gram on average per serving and I my tolerance is probably on the high side, ( I blaze once daily) Even so, .2 g is enough to light me up pretty good - but not overwhelm.

    2) Also how long do you stir and let the mixture sit on very low heat for? Because you already decarbed, you only need to leave it on low heat for long enough to melt the pb or pb and oil.

And when are you able to tell when it is ready to eat? It's pretty much ready after you mix the weed and peanut butter.

How much peanut is needed for each serving? I would say a teaspoon.

Let us know how high you got. Be careful, if you did things right, .6g (of top shelf) should be more than enough.

  6. Thanks for the fast replies everyone,

So what should i do with these last 3 crackers that i have already cooked?
Do you suggest baking it any longer or am i pretty much at a loss with these?

Going by your description of the peanut butter not being melted and such, it sounds like something went wrong - did you pre-heat the oven? I suggest you get an oven thermometer. Make sure the oven is preheated to 250 F. Leave them in for about 30 minutes.

You seem to be very concerned about precise time and temperatures, but don't worry, all the THC isn't going to be destroyed if you fudge the time and temp a little. However, the lower the oven temperature, the more leeway you have to make mistakes.

For example, you can see that at 293F, THC content starts decreasing rather quickly after just 7 minutes. Whereas at 252F, peak THC is reached after 27 minutes. I prefer the "low and slow" method of decarbing at 220F for an hour or so.

  8. Very interesting!
I guess people tend to use the temperature in the 3-400 range for quickness and convenience, rather than this "low and slow" method.

I am sure that the oven was preheated completely, but this oven was at an older apartment, so i'm not sure of the accuracy of my initial 320 degree bake..

I am going to put the 3 remaining crackers in at 250 degrees for 30 minutes. Am hopeful that my herbs will not be going to waste after all.

Thanks again for all the information!

  9. UPDATE:

So i put the firecrackers in for 30 minutes on 250 as suggested. I was surprised to see not much of a change at all in the peanut butter; it still seemed pretty soft.
Anyway, i ate one of them first thing in the morning on thanksgiving day, and after about 45 minutes after ingestion, started to doubt them once again.
But sure enough, about an hour after ingestion i began to feel a very mellow body high, that seemed to become more intense and then very hard to feel in waves..
Im pretty happy that these are saved after all.
I was wondering and debating on leaving them in the oven for longer for more thc absorption so the crackers will hit me harder but i am afraid to overcook them or unnecassarily destroy any thc from a 3rd cook.

    Thanks guys!
