Running an extension cord to my bomb shelter

  1. Hey,
Please help! I am looking for suggestions on how to run an extension cord from my outdoor plug, down into my grow room! The only problem is the door to the room is 30+lbs and I think it may cut through an extension cord? I need any kind of help/suggestions ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1446748623.507726.jpg
This is the actual outdoor plug. I want to run a cord from this plug, down into my room.

This is the door to my room, it's sealed pretty tight.. Not sure how I can run a cord and not damage the door, also I want to be able to lock it still. So let me know if u have any ideas at all

  2. You need to drill a hole somewhere there for it to go through. You can take a hand drill and a bit and drill a hole just big enough for the cord to fit through right next to the wall. Be very careful running grow lights off an extension cord. It's definitely not the best way to do it. Use the shortest and best quality cord you can get hold of and definitely figure out a safer way to get power to your lights in the meantime. TWW

  3. Is the problem running the lights off an extension cord that is not in the same room? Or is the problem jus that we are using an extension cord to power the lights? Cuz currently I am ruining my veg light off an extension cord that is connected to my power source in my actual room

  4. Hey.. Thanks for the advice.. Where are u thinkin that I drill these holes? Into the actual patio/deck wood area? Basically straight down? I don't no if that will work because it is a rental house

  5. Where there's a will there's a way. You can always cover or repair a hole in wood. Personally, I'd try to use the existing wiring to run another outlet into the growing area as it would leave less damage, if not an improvement on his property at your expense. $100 for a heavy duty triple tap extension cord + damaged property, OR $15-$20 in hardware for a new outlet sounds like a no brainer to me.

I'd be nervous about repairmen showing up for the furnace/boiler, unless the landlord lets you do it yourself. They don't always check with their tenants before scheduling shit like that, especially if they happen to be in the area that week. Next thing you know your landlord is puling into the driveway with a work van behind him. Surprise!! LOL
