What does it mean to be a citizen?

Discussion in 'Politics' started by VikingToker, Nov 5, 2015.

  1. Despite the title, the thread topic is less at 'tell me what a citizen is' (i can look that up in each country)

and more 'tell me how a citizen should think about society'

What is a good citizen, QueenKrisR, as opposed to just a citizen?

  2. this might strike you as odd considering my political pov but

I believe we are all part if a whole.

I believe in each person helping each other person. But I have ethics. It must be mutually beneficial and voluntary.

You might call me an anarchocommunist.

I believe the strong should help the week voluntarily, but that the week have no buisness ganging up on the strong to take from them.

You are a true citizen of a society when you sacrifice willingly to help those in need, but those in need are only citizens if the in turn do what they can to also help others.

Call me an idealist but, we shouldn't need laws because everyone should naturally act out of mutual self interest

  3. It means you can be murdered by an illegal non-citizen and your killer can then later be released into unsuspecting communities or stashed in "sanctuary cities". We're definitely down the proverbial rabbit hole!

  4. Damn straight! I'm all for helping my fellow man in need and do so wherever I can on a personal level but I resent people who want to force me (or anyone) to help them via the state at gunpoint. That's theft and fuck you. If you need help, ask, don't fucking demand and claim it is your right just because you are alive.

Matter of factly, being a citizen is being an individual in a society, which is, obviously, a group of people with established regulations. You and I probably both agree that people are diverse/unique in so many different ways that you really can't lump members of a society into one category and say "This is how people should act."

Responsibility wise, in American society, I believe people have the responsibility to not harm one another or pollute the Earth since both are beneficial to the human race as a whole. I also believe people should never be obligated to do something they don't want to do i.e work at McDonalds to try to prevent being homeless. Some people just don't have the ability to do much else, which is why I disagree with capitalism and the USA's implementation of it and the monetary system in many ways, and another reason why I support socialistic practices to a fair extent.

Benefits wise, I believe every person has the right to basic clean food, clean water, appropriate housing, appropriate housing commodities, and high quality, individual relevant education, which should be provided as an option to every person by government based on each individual's/families/ living situation's needs.

Your third, fourth, and fifth questions, are where it gets tricky with hypothetically lumping people into one category to me. People vary so greatly, from personality traits to individual intelligence, that I don't think it's feasible to really give an answer to those questions, However, I would say that I believe that all citizens should be informed with factual, unbiased information about world affairs, so that they can freely form their own opinions.

  7. If you're of Middle Eastern descent in the United States, citizenship don't mean shit.

I was born here and lived here my whole life and am a taxpaying citizen.

But the second I bring up anything that criticized MY government, I get white people telling me "Maybe you should go back to where you came from".

Go back where buddy? My mother's womb?

Maybe my family wouldn't have had to flee in the first place if the US didn't arm the Taliban. Maybe Iran would have a democracy if they didn't stage a coup and put a puppet leader in place. Shit maybe the Middle East wouldn't be a fucking shit hole if the West interfered less.

Afghanistan was a growing nation without religious extremism before the Soviet-Afghan war and the US giving all those damn Wahabbis from Saudi Arabia weapons to fight the USSR. The same weapons they used after the war to implement a ridiculous and barbaric version of Islam. Women couldn't laugh in public, TV banned, music banned, no democracy..etc the list goes on.

Kabul before Soviet Afghan War and the US backed Taliban (during the 80s at least)

  8. I would like clarification by what you mean a citizen? It seems you could insert 'human being' unless you are assuming participation within a particular system already existing?

I assume you mean the later otherwise this would be a strictly ethical consideration.

If my assumption is correct: I would caution against the term citizen in favor of the term 'human being' or 'person' since a citizen is a subservient subclass of people who have abdicated some rights in favor of governmental privileges and benefits.

It seems to me a return to a system envisioned in (but poorly executed) the Constitution, whereby every person was naturally free and had sovereignty equal to that of a king. Also, keeping corporations as a technology not defining them as a sovereign entity, who must be granted a charter to exist and must demonstrate it was beneficial to human beings to continue existing. In any system that violates human sovereignty, it is bound to failure. The sovereign individual IMO is the highest virtue for which we can strive.

The statement "give me liberty or give me death" is noble, but I would proclaim 'WE ARE free in life or death'.

  9. Is this question in any way related to Starship Troopers. I kept hearing stuff about being a citizen in that movie. You know what I didn't see in that movie though? Denise Richards' tits, I felt so ripped off.

  10. Wow Madeenz, as much time as I spend educating myself I still has no idea Afghanistan was as you describe. I would definitely agree the Western powers have completely fucked up the Middle East and most of Africa. I don't know what it is the fear about those people where they must constantly micromanage their internal destruction. I have to assume they fear something, but it obviously isn't the 'Islamic extremists' they would suggest, since we know full well they are complicit in their creation.

I encourage you and everyone (as I have before) check out 1215.org and begin to free yourself from being a tax paying citizen to this leviathan.

  11. so u endorsed the Soviet invasion and occupation? We never supplied arms to the Taliban. We supported the mujahedeen, the talibums are a Pakistani creation of the ISI.
Afghanistan has so much potential but the tribal system again fails its people and it does globally.
Being a citizen is as simple as being born in the US. Many middle Eastern countries deny this right. My daughter was born in Oman nut the Omani joke is about her getting her citizen card and Omani passport, which the Omani joking knew she was not allowed to obtain. Racist as fuck there.
Being a citizen is simple or complex as u want it to be. Many apply loyalty to the nation and its laws. Many shit holes in the world, I am glad u left yours and are in the US.

  12. I can only answer for myself in the USA.

    1. I am responsible for upholding the 2nd amendment right. I am to turn on my TV and hear Donald Trump spew hate through fox news. I am responsible for killing suspected terrorists.

    2. The benefits means that the state of Texas will embrace me if i do #1

    3. White Americans will be fine around other white Americans. If you are a white cop, kill a black street thug. If you are Donald Trump, then hate on everyone who is not a white American billionaire.

    4. Citezens of Texas will vote for and support Donald Trump.

    5. Nuke the middle east.

    6. Throw them out of the rally. Better yet, have your supporters beat the shit out of them on national TV.

No I do not endorse the soviet invasion. I do not endorse America and it's over involvement in the Middle East. The US got involved in a proxy war with the USSR through the invasion of Afghanistan.

You do know Operation Cyclone gave arms through intermediaries in PAKISTAN right?

Osama bin laden was part of the Arab forces joining the mujahideen. They received funding, training, and arms from the US.

Let's not forget this isn't the first time Reagan fucked up. He admitting giving arms to Iran in trade for hostages, and his administration funded and trained the Contras in Nicaragua who were also terrorists!

  16. It thrives in your life all around you , you just fail to recognize it. How about dating and marriage? It thrives in a anarchy state. ..and what happens when it is institutionalized? Gay rights anyone? Laws apon laws don't make things organized, quite the opposite. You live your life in anarchy 99 % of the time. Id ask you the opposite, what does government provide for us that individuals couldn't?

  17. I don't understand your point, it got lost in a lot of confident assertions about stuff you're gonna have to explain

I live my life in anarchy 99% of the time? Explain

Dating and marriage thrives in an anarchy state? Gay righst?

Laws don't make things organized, but the opposite? what exacly does that mean

Explain that first, and we'll advance

  18. U drifted a lot from ur claim the US armed the Taliban. In retrospect we should have ignored the muj when they asked us to leave, the resultant was the tribal system used to retard progress in af.
Al K-Duh is not the Taliban.
I would trade tow missiles to bring u back to our nation.
The contra did not spread terror internationally. They did bring down a commie regime of a failed state. Today they seem to be better than in a Che ( worlds worst revolutionary) collective dictatorship. Sort of like what Venezuela has done to the wonderful people there.

  19. Those places are NOT anarchy. They are destabilized regions run by war lords, psychopaths and sociopaths at the expense of the indigenous people due to western intervention.

That shit show is nothing like a free, voluntary society.
