Finished my box 250w

  1. Hey guys! I finally finished my box after a couple setbacks, it's 2x3x5, with a 250w HPS that has adjustable cables so i can control the height. 6 in exhaust with carbon filter, 4 inch intake with filter. Completely light and air tight (the duct tape around the wires and intake are temporary). Just gotta sand and paint the outside. I'm having problems with my Temps, they're 85-90, I wasn't expecting thag light to get thay hot, or be thay bright haha. I think I may need a need a stronger fan (Not sure why pics are sideways)

  2. Nice to know. That is the same light I am putting in my set up. My box is 2x2x6 with a open top and a can 33 filter to help with the heat and stink. Please keep us posted on how your crop goes.

  3. That's sweet I did a 30"x30"x4' box some months back, loaded it with cfl's and battled heat the whole way , my exhaust was garbage though and it was the middle of summer,
Ended up getting a tent and am currently running the box for veg and flowering the tent
Still have garbage vents in the box but it's winter almost so I'm good 4 now, keep this post alive
Excited to see that box at work
    Diy!!!

  4. Well I've been doing some shopping and I've found a 4 in fan with carbon filter and speed controller for $100, it moves 190cfm which seem like it will be sufficient for my needs. May have to scrap the homemade carbon filter till to get my Temps down till I can order it. And thank you for the comments! I just kinda threw this box together with 2 pieces of plywood and some scrap wood I had laying around.

  5. You should've bought a cool tube reflector. See if you can return that one and get the cool tube. That way you can directly vent the air through your light and carry the majority of the heat out that way. You still need air circulating heavily inside the box, but the other reflector is about a must have in a confined space like that. HPS gets HOT...but the plants love them and grow like crazy under them. That's always the #1 problem with a small cabinet grow...managing the heat from the lights. Good luck! TWW

  6. Well I bought the light from a buddy about a year ago, I also have a small 6 inch fan to circulate air inside. I don't have any extra money for this so I've been making do with what I have, to the best of my ability. I mentioned the 4 inch fan and filter in my last post (TWW, your post was one minute after mine. So I don't think you read it haha) do you think that would bring my Temps down? I'm also considering running the light at night

  7. If you can get a stronger exhaust that might help with heat as well as oscillating fan or one that's stationary pointed toward the light. I use CFL and had the same problem, luckily I had white widow and it likes the high 80's

  8. You need a bigger intake for starters.

  9. Ok, I can run a 6 in. Intake if it'll help, I'm gonna try and order that 4 in exhaust fan within the next week or two and if that doesn't bring my Temps down I'll up size my intake. Another limiting factor I'm thinking of is my intake filter, it could be causing some drag so I'll experiment with that as well

  10. Nice build!! I'll just pull up a chair here and spark one up.

  11. Also you didn't say what kind of circulating fan you have but you should be using one that oscillates.

  12. I bought a 4 inch inline fan with a speed controller, pushes around 200cfm, which will be plenty enough for this small of a box. Probably going to run another 4 in line for intake as well

  13. I don't have an oscillating fan yet :/ but this one has a clip and can be mounted anywhere. I'll try to get one that oscillates soon

Setup looking clean! I have a tent close to that size and I went with a 460cfm exhaust with a fan controller. It has a 4 inch passive intake hole and some vents towards the bottom. It moves a ton of air in and out. Hopefully you can manage the HPS temps. I won't even try an HPS because a cool tube with 6 inch ducting on both sides won't fit in my tent. T5 and LEDs for me.

  15. Thank man! I've been running it the past few days just to get an idea of temps. It got up to 83 during the day so I'll run another 4 in intake and see where that will bring me. I know the fan can handle it. I can barely open the door when it's running cause of the negative pressure :D I just had 2 seeds germ as well. Only gonna run one plant in it tho, so I'll figure something out for the other one. Hoping to run that 4 in intake Monday while everyone in my neighborhood is at work ;) I'll keep everyone updated on the temps

  16. Any updates? I want to see how you turnout with the system I was going to use.

  17. @nk14zp, I bought the 4" version of that fan and had it in a 3x3x4 box with a marsII, and it was totally useless, should have went with the 6" version

  18. I added another 4 in passive intake, so now I have two. Temps are very manageable with the new fan. Everything seems perfect right now
