American Muscle vs JDM Tuners vs Euro Tuners

Discussion in 'Planes, Trains & Automobiles' started by iDoIt4Yal, Oct 20, 2015.

  1. What is your preference, and why?
I personally like American, big, loud, proud, N/A V8s, large displacement.
But I definitely respect all car builds, if built right.

Well i would say that euro tuners make really unique/oddball cars(lots of engine swaps involved), volvo amazons with MB diesels making 500 hp, oldschool volvos making 5,6,7,800 hp, built oldschool bmws making 5,6,7,800 hp, 500 hp vw tdi's, etc. American muscle i think of low-tech "no replacement for displacement" builds, throw a big engine in it, cam/intake/heads/big-carb or bolt-on supercharger and good to go now that you have 600 hp and similar tq. that being said american muscle is moving away from giant N/A engines and getting more and more technical. I tihnk of JDM as people who have to really really build their engines and use lots of high-tech parts because they are spinning 8,9,10k rpm while running high-boost in order to make power that is competitive with engines with triple their displacement. Obviously nothing is set in stone and im not really partial to any of these, i have a built 1st gen mr2 with a turb, an e36 bmw with a built H/C/I 5.0 mustang engine, and an 85 mercedes diesel as my play cars.

Depends on what type of driving you want to do. Straight line speed, there is no replacement for displacement. I would take a built American v8 over an import any day for drag racing. Curvy roads, or road racing type driving it's hard to beat a decently powered awd setup which imo you don't see as much in American vehicles.

After years of pouring thousands in to various race vehicles I prefer just to drive a suv and keep a motorcycle for those time I want a spirited drive.

That used to be the case, but modern american cars are finally getting on board with suspension and steering.. Shit the CTS-V has the fastest 4-door record at Nuerenbergring, taking out Mercs, and Beemers. And there are plenty of aftermarket kits to make your old iron turn like its on rails.
The new Mustangs, and Camaro's are full on track cars... With BIG HP [IMG]

  5. Don't have experience driving the three enough for a real comparison

Looks wise, sounds wise, all that aesthetic stuff the American 60's-80's muscle cars take any man's cake imo

Like in humans, being sleek and powerful is aesthetically pleasing

  6. While the addition of independant rears (dont know about chevy but ford started it in the older 99+ model cobras) certainly helped the american muscle cars, I would still rather have a nice awd setup for curvy roads, and american manufacturers in general lag behind in awd performance setups. Yea, you can retrofit any car to handle decently. I have friends that run fox body stangs in scca events. The thing is I dont want a project car. I want a car that does what is was built to do from the factory.

This car was built by some friends of mine several years back.

The same guys built this 2.3l svo track car pushing just over 400rwhp for the turbo 4cyl.

  7. It must be an american thing - Wrenching on your car to squeeze every drop of performance out of it. //static.grscty.com//public/style_emoticons/default/confused_2.gif

And its not like you cant buy an american car thats ready to race right out of the box, its just gonna cost you an arm and a testicle. So guys buy the cheaper versions, and bolt on performance as they have the cash.
And I think I heard (over at HRM) that there is an AWD Cobra R Mustang in the works //static.grscty.com//public/style_emoticons/default/shake.gif
Personally I like RWD over AWD anyway. Cant to a killer burnout with AWD :p
