Come Help Me Build My First Grow Room

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by Aheadatime, Oct 12, 2015.

  1. Hey all,

Just now starting to strategize around building my first room :D Pretty excited. I've done some measurements but need some help. First basic question to get the thread started -

How big should a veg room be in proportion to a flower room, assuming equal plant count, and assuming a 6 week veg period?

Example - 2 rooms, one flower, one veg, both 24 plants a piece. Veg room half the size of flower room? Two-thirds the size?

I'll be asking questions as ideas come to me and previous questions get answered, so be sure to scroll down to most recent comments to see what the question/topic currently is. I'll bold my newer questions so it's easy on scrolling eyes.

  2. I would say a 4x4 veg tent/room and a 5x5 flower tent/room should do the trick.

  3. My box is 3x3, and I'm currently building new 4x4 for a 1k hps as the extra room to work around the plants and a little extra space for fans is nice too..

    Bigger is sometimes better ..

  4. We converted an extra bedroom....about 14 x 16, into our grow space. We divided the space into 2/3 flower, 1/3 veg. You tend to think you won't need as much space for veg...and that is mostly true. The only time space becomes an issue, is when I pot them up into 5 gallon buckets...the last up pot before they go into flower. For about 3 to 4 weeks, it's tough getting around in the veg space. LOL I bought another T5 and hung it in there since the one I had just didn't cover enough square footage to keep my clones happy. If you have the space to work with, the more room you can leave on both sides, the easier it will be on you working in and around them. I don't know what your experience level is with growing, but I want to call it to your attention that 24 plants take up a LOT of room. I run 4, 1000 watt hps lights for flower and the most I flower at one time is around 16. After growing for a few years, I finally had a "duh" moment and realized that I had been hurting my harvest by overcrowding my space. So I backed way down on the number of plants I tried to flower being sure each had ample room to grow and was receiving all the light it could possibly handle. My harvest doubled. LOL I'm sure we have threads here relating to grow room setup. It would probably be a wise thing to read around in some of them for some ideas and points of reference. The more you know, the better it will go. Good luck! Let me know if I can help. TWW

  5. White Widow - The 24 plants was a hypothetical. Realistically I won't be growing that many. So far I think I'm going with this.

    Veg Room/Nutrient Storage Room - 9'5" by 10'6"

    Flower Room - 8'9" by 12'7"

Odd dimensions, I know, but it's what I have to work with. Altogether, the space is about 22' by 10'6", although there's a section on one side of the room where a vent is overhanging, taking away around 1'9" from the 10'6", hence the flower room having a shorter width than the veg room.

  6. Ok I have another question. Winter is coming, and I plan to take full advantage of that sweet cold air by having an active intake fan, as well as an active exhaust. Since I've seen plants with powdery mildew in my neighbors yards near my active intake, I plan on scrubbing the intake air.

Is it overkill to use an active intake fan with a carbon filter, as well as an active exhaust fan with another carbon filter?

The carbon on the exhaust is for smell purposes, while the carbon on the intake is for making sure no spores or anything nasty gets in the grow room. The air that would be getting sucked in would be incredibly cold (I live in northern US where the winters are frigid), and I presume this alone will be enough to keep my room cool in the winter (it's a basement which is naturally cold anyway, and I'll have a max of 4k watts running).
