Found this article that sources the actual National institute of Cancer which in fact does show that in pre-clinical trials THC found in cannabis can kill cancer cells and inhibit growth in mice. Article also makes a good point that of the 1.4 billion dollars Marijuana gets for funding only 300 million goes to marijuana research. The rest goes to addiction. Some context is needed here. First, any anti-tumor effects of cannabinoids should be further studied, but so far all the good evidence is from in vitro or animal studies. It is not clear if or what types of cancers could be benefited or which types of cannabinoids could be therapeutic. There is certainly no good evidence that smoking cannabis will cure cancer. Second, the "45% reduction in bladder cancer" reference isn't as great as it sounds. A 45% rate reduction is actually a very small effect size and I wouldn't put much stock into it without much more replication of the finding. Third, keep in mind that ascorbic acid (a.k.a., Vitamin C) also has been shown to have anti-tumor properties in vitro/animals, but so far the results in humans is weak, and no one would suggest drinking more OJ is going to cure cancer. The biggest therapeutic benefits from cannabinoids is probably for pain, nausea, appetite, and seizures, but is unlikely going to be a "silver bullet" for cancer.
