Will pot help work anxiety/social anxiety?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by Floyd The Barber, Oct 3, 2015.

  1. So I just started a job at a fast food restaurant (making pizzas) I have bad social anxiety and work anxiety and just anxiety in general. One job I worked at for about 3-4 months (as a cashier), everyday I would come in really anxious. I have a friend who works at my work (this new work), and he said that pretty much every worker smokes pot and that even my manager (who is cool) used to smoke it. When I toke, If I smoke too much I get anxious and nervous as hell, but if I only take a hit or two (I know, I'm a noob) I feel relaxed and happy. Would you recommend a toke before work or highly not recommend it? thanks a lot guys. Peace

  2. Shouldnt ever go to or be at work intoxicated.

  3. At a pizza place, I would be baked out of my mind. However, I have been smoking for a few decades and can function when I am high. Work is no place to be experimenting with your tolerance levels, even if it is accepted by management. Get some more experience smoking and doing things that demand some level of attention and work, Then make the decision for yourself. We cant tell you what you can and cannot do comfortably.

  4. Youd have much more luck talking about your anxiety with a professional and working on developing healthy mental habits to allieviate your anxiety. If you start smoking to feel "relaxed and happy" you will very likely begin to abuse cannabis. You should feel "relaxed and happy" as a default, you should be smoking to feel high af

  5. I've always avoided getting high during the hours I worked. I liked feeling sharp and on top of things at work...

Getting high and/or having a few drinks I reserved for the late afternoon/evening when I could fully enjoy it. [IMG]

  6. 'It will work in the short term, not sure about long term though

  7. Why?

Because you get paid to WORK, not get high. If he can't figure this anxiety thing out without using a crutch then he can expect a lifetime of food service jobs making close to minimum wage until he does.

I recall when I was still in high school. I wondered how could a 35-40 year old man would want to work making minimum wage. Then I found out he was either high or drunk all the time. Might seem ok, fun and cool to an 18 year old. It was sad to see a middle aged man barely surviving in life. Look around this forum some and you see some of the same sad songs being played. Total tools bragging about being high at work. No hope or chance at a decent future. Check back in 10 years and nothing has changed. Still making low wages but you are just 10 years older.

Thats an ignorant and close minded way to look at it. When people have a medical condition that can be helped by cannabis what is the issue as long as they are not going into work noticeably high as shit. I get serious stomach cramps and pain in the early morning and the quickest way to get rid of it is a dab after i wake up. Then go to work installing fire alarms making 40k a year. I guess this 26 yr old is just a loser pot head with no hope or chance. Or you can blame the person instead of the cannabis for being a failure at life. No one at my job knows i smoke and they never will either, no bragging here to co workers.

  10. A future is not dedicated whether you take a drug test or not, so long as they're happy what right do you have to judge someone from smoking and still having a job. I work 6 days a week at my job and can come in stonded if I wanted to. If you can handle what you take and not act like a complete idiot I don't see anything wrong from smoking before work. Cheers

  11. I get the Medical condition deal bro. My wife has Migraines that she medicates for and I have Arthritis. You are the exception not the rule and you are making more, much more than this pizza slinger AND he is talking about it at work to his coworkers.

I think you are missing the point. Fine you can medicate and do your job a vast majority can not or will not do it properly. They over do it to "Pass the time" and 10 years later they are in the same dead end job like yours thinking they are making "Big money" when the real adults are making a real living.

If you are 26 and have serious stomach cramps and pain then you need more than MJ to cover it up, you need to find out what is causing it.

  12. I know whats causing it and there is no cure just pills that supress it and make it so i can't shit. Cannabis was a lucky miracle i tried at 22 just to try it. And shortly after i started smoking i realized the stomach relief it gave me

I think people are fooling themselves that others do not notice drug use and people being high while they are suppose to be working. hen you get passed up on a promotion or are still at that shitty job 10 years later working way too hard making way too little then who's fault is that?

I did my time and retired at 50 because I knew when to smoke and when not to smoke (Didn't for 35 years). I had PLENTY of issues that I should have and could have medicated for, but instead I had a real job and DEALT WITH LIFE'S ISSUES without the use of a crutch.

Sometimes pot IS the only answer. We tried literally everything for my wife and her Migraines and pot is THE ONLY thing that works. She does not medicate at work or before. If she has an episode she just calls in.

Pills SUCK and can cause much worse issues. I am saying that you should not give up solving your problem naturally. I know right before I retired I got sick as hell every single morning I had to go in early.

  15. Idk I personally act the same high and sober, granted I don't smoke a ridiculous amount beforehand, and never at work. I agree with you people being stupid to not take a promotion or getting farther in life just because they have to stop. For me ATM I'm fine working 52 hour weeks. In this day in age growing up its hard to find a job with decent hours. Most graduates these days are not going to college and going straight to work. Cheers I'm glad you made it to retirement I'll be there in about 40 so years

First of all I meant no offense to you or Dr Fumbles. I apologize if I came across as terse. The OP sounds like my sister in law and that's not a good thing by a mile.

I think what you and Dr Fumbles are talking about and what the OP is talking about are two totally different things. You are an adult, act like an adult and are responsible. The OP on the other hand makes me believe he is just another kid with issues that wants to justify smoking while at work. The reason I am saying that is The OP is asking here to hopefully get a gamed answer.

Truth is OP, have the balls to make your own choice and live by it. Sound harsh? I suppose so, just remember life is harsher. WE ALL HAVE TO DEAL WITH SOMETHING IN LIFE that we would rather avoid, miss or zone out and forget. Challenges are what life is made up from.

The real reason I am so against smoking for smoking sake while at work (which is what I believe the OP is talking about) is that is screws us all up for full on federal legalization.

  17. Some of my friends are high functioning potheads, it improves their agility, and I dare say their mental prowess. Me on the other hand get kinda stupid and just like to zone out. I work at a call center and i like just a hit before I go in. No more or I fuck up. Just a hit relaxes me but I'm still on point. For me.
