Man in metro Detroit dies in prison cell from neglect over traffic tickets

  1. I live close to here and it's fucked up. Guy went to jail because he couldn't pay a traffic ticket, so he went to jail for 30 days. He had bad withdrawals because he wasn't receiving methadone, Xanax and Klonopin. It was all on video, his seizures and everything. Video shows him dying in his cell. As the reporter says, "This is not a prison camp in Afghanistan; this is a jail cell in the suburbs of metro Detroit."

Keep the Detroit jokes to a minimum, or don't mention them at all. It's not Detroit; it's like 25 miles out of Detroit. It's fucked up and this is why people don't trust law enforcement in many regards.

  2. What a fuckin shame. Did the poor bastard have a family?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Fuck the goverment with a golf shoe. I doubt they will face any punishment but I how all the pigs involved get to be someone's bitch in prison.

  3. This is the kind of shit that should get more national attention. Everyone is so focused on specific officers doing stupid shit that stories about the broken nature of our criminal justice go on. Being in jail for nonviolent crimes is disturbingly common place in America and is something we need to work on as a county.

  4. privatize the police. these ppl r getting away with murder. security companies can't do a worse job than these hoodlums

  5. Victim's brother was actually in the same jail, for the same thing! But they weren't violent criminals. Let's not forget that. And I have read updates today with attorneys representing the jail, saying the victim's family probably has no case because the county can defend itself (think $$$). Sad all around.

  6. if police were privatized you could hold them accountable in court

Since they are government they get away with everything because they are the law

Police officers are really just glorified security guards if you think about it.

What's a cops job? To keep society secure.

  7. Actually they aren't security guards. Security guards are on the scene to prevent things from happening...our LEOs just show up after the fact and try to cobble together "evidence"...

I think that's probably why they are so frustrated, and try to make things happen....

  8. Based on the track records of private prisons I can't really see this as a viable alternative. I'm not gonna say it definitely wouldn't be better cause no one knows for sure but I can't imagine adding a profit incentive to policing/jailing will lead to less corruption. Just my .02 though.

  9. Was he white or black?

  10. Not that it really matters but the poor dude was a young white guy. The pigs don't much care who they murder as long as the get to murder someone and get away with a past on the back and an "atta boy".

  11. While thats true, i bet a lot more would be fussing if he was black, for attention or whatever

  12. 100% agree and it's a damn shame.

  13. I watched the 10 minute news story...saw this come thru my FB feed yesterday. Guy literally withers away and dies on camera. It's fucked up...very fucked up. I hope the county gets sued for millions.

From what I gathered, this happened last Summer, and it's just coming to litigation now. I think the family just obtained the video through freedom of information act or discovery procedure in the civil case.

He was on a shitload of meds. And bc the jail wouldn't allow him to have them, he died of acute withdrawal from the Rx drugs. Easily could've been prevented of the staff at this jail wasn't comprised of sadists.

  14. cant believe im using this argument... but... cities would be given the freedom of choice. they can choose which company to hire. if one company's police isn't good they can hire a new one

shutting down a prison would be a lot more complicated. so i dont think u can compare the two

  15. Look at you and your stateless ideas! Hell yeah man :)

  16. This is the first thing I thought when I noticed race wasn't mentioned in the title.
