Can you use Marijuana if you are on opiate pain-killers in Pro-Medical States?

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by MonarchX, Sep 21, 2015.

  1. When I lived in NC, a non-medical-marijuana state, I had a pain doctor
from California who, at first, allowed me to use marijuana and
opioids/opiates at the same time. However, after 2-3 months, he told me
can no longer allow me to use marijuana because DEA stated that
opioid/opiate pain treatment patients can only test positive for the
drugs that they are legally prescribed, which does not include marijuana
    in the state of NC.

Is it the same in medical marijuana states? Does DEA allow pain patients
on opioids/opiates to test positive for marijuana if they are
prescribed (or just allowed to have) marijuana ?

If that is the case, then what are my options? Pain clinics do drug
test, but family doctors rarely do. However family doctors had to curb
opioid/opiate prescription amounts due to pressure from the outside
(DEA?) regarding too many opioid/opiate prescriptions from family
doctors in the recent years in the USA. That often forces family doctors
to refer pain patients to pain clinics, which as I stated, perform drug
    tests...

  2. my doc doesn't care. i am kind of lucky though as he is my primary care physician that we have had for ever. he knows i'm not a drug addict looking to cheat the system. i have legitimate issues, physical and psychological. hell, i only see him once every 6 months to a year now.

if you go into a program for pain management for narcotics, then ya, you will be tested and when you pop for ANYTHING, ganja included you will lose your pain meds just like that. i belong to a forum where this kind of talk isn't a ban-able offense. lots of great info about this kind of thing and many others as well.

  3. But that is ridiculous then... What is the point of living in a medical marijuana state and using marijuana for severe pain if you can't actually use it with opiates through a pain management doctor.

I am SO surprised very few people responded here and nobody responded to this question @ marijuana.com forums. There got to be a TON of people with pain issue in pro-medical marijuana states who have severe pain and need both opiates and marijuana and probably other drugs too...

  4. nobody wants to tell you there are more than one option for your condition. if they are selling you something it is all or nothing to them, your health hangs in the balance of their greed and their bank account and their stigmatizing rules

You have to understand that our med system is for profit. There are only a few doctors that will recommend cannabis and they are doing it against the grain. I live in Colorado and my oncologist looks me directly in the eyes to tell me cannabis doesn't shrink tumors and does not work for pain. I believe it's worked for my pain for 30 something years so I know that's a big fat lie. And as far as tumor shrinkage, I am working with a good girl friend with stage 4 ovarian cancer and it seems to be shrinking her tumors just fine. Watch some of the documentaries out there on cannabis and you will have your eyes opened a bit.
