cars are too expensive

  1. i hope this changes over the next few decades...

    - cars should be cheaply 3d printed (at home if you wish/can)
    - you should be able to swap batteries like you do in a flash light
    - instead of treating it like an object that can barely sustain a scratch we should able to build one ad-hoc

honestly i hope that this old way of making a car the centerpiece of your life achievement should be put to rest.

  2. Your suggestion is interesting, probably that is right and I basically agree with you. Also I guess teleports appears in next 100 years and the need in cars disappear.

  3. i don't know .. we are kind far off from teleportation.. :) i think 3d-printable cars are much more realistic. (just recently they released a printer which can use multiple materials)... it won't take much more processing than is currently in your cell phone to actually make the car fully autonomous. and considering all cars communicate with each other and are full of sensors + sensors on the road .. it should be pretty safe too.

  4. 1)someones probably done this already, i d look into it a bit more
    2) you can pretty much swap em like a flash light, unscrew two terminals, remove, install new one, re attach terminals. done.
    3) my cars arent like this, i drove into a stray shopping cart in one of my shitboxes just to watch it bounce around and see if i d dent it.

  5. you are right technology for all of this exists already.. it's just not available to the masses for the most part.
today a car is a serious investment.. some sort of milestone in life even. but really it should be a commodity that's cheap and simple.. no more complex or expensive than a modern tv.

but then these are your daily commuter cars.. or maybe one-off van-like transport for a family trip, whatever.. since you can print it, you can dream it for any reasonable occasion. print a limo or a bus.

cars of today will become classic and collectible like all things of the past. i still love old thunderbirds and caddies .. wouldn't mind riding one of those just for fun 20 - 30 years from now .. presumably i can still find gasoline :)

  6. Really you just need to shop around. New cars are expensive but older used cars are fairly cheap. I have an 03' dakota and a 95' camaro. Truck cost me $3000 and car was $2000. Took me a while to find the vehicles but it was worth it in the end. Cheaper then a 3d printer at least.

  7. Get a motorcycle, they're cheaper and more fun

  8. yea. just stick to economy cars built before 1999. cadillacs of the 90's are a nightmare, electrical wise, though.

if humans didnt have human desires/wants, we would drive cars likened to Geo Metros. basic to/from transport. no more complex than a horse and carriage. but i can fix a car, i cant fix a horse.
