Ive been floating around the forums for a long time reading, documenting, and waiting until i could attempt something of my own. Finally I have the money and the time to give this a shot. Im hoping at the end of the day between 3 -4 plants i can get 1.5oz off each. For my first grow i will be using Pyramid Auto Northern Lights,http://www.herbiesheadshop.com/pyramid-auto-northe... I chose this because its an Auto flower that's feminized, short flower, less to do with light schedule. I will be germinating in a shot glass/Paper towel. Then planting directly into 3x3 gallon equivalent Air pots, which i believe hold 2.2 gallons of media. Using Ocean Forrest soil with a small mix of perlite for drainage. I also have Fox farm Trio for the plants starting roughly after the 3rd week of this grow. My Tent will be a DR60II Secret Jardin 2x2x5.25 tent. I have a humidity gauge/temp gauge. A small clip fan for air circulation. My light is a No name Full Spectrum 600W LED Grow Light(Actual Power Consumption:300W±3%). I plan on hanging this roughly 18in above the pots themselves during this grow. In the open air my temp in the basement is 80 degrees with 60 percent humidity. I Will not be lsting or doing any type of techniques for this grow based on noob letter and because there is so many auto debates about those kind of things. I will be using tap water this whole grow but ill let it sit out in a 5 gallon bucket with the lid half off to try and distill it. Any help, ideas would be appreciated, I am not 100 percent on how much to water during different stages. i Also have yet to figure out how im going to Carbon Scrub the tent. I do not want to use an Inline fan due to noise. I need the grow to be as quiet as possible. And obviously heat is not an issue i know smell will be. I have a Bachelor party Saturday and my tent and pots wont be here until then so most likely i will start germination in Solo cups then sunday cut the cup off and put them into the pots..
DAY 1 Germination I received my seeds from Herbies today. I got 5 Northern Light feminized Autos......1 X SamSara Holy Grail 69 Feminised Seed2 X Afghani Regular Seeds., Ill be storing them for later use maybe if i gather enough ill grow them i dont want to waste my time with regular seeds spending all that time and then boom males..Maybe ill give them away or toss them. Now i wont tell you how they super stealthed it like some other people. BUT i got the package opened it looked at the container and thought they forgot my seeds when i dumped it out BOOM there they were. They were reallllly sneaky. I put 3 seeds inside a glass of warm water and put it in my cupboard about 2 hours ago. Ok so I got my soil, I read the Air pots i bought will hold 2 gallons of media so i mixed up 12 dry quarts of Ocean forest with 8 dry quarts of Miracle Grow Perlite. It was the only Perlite available yes i know miracle grow is bad i looked at the ingredients and its 97 percent perlite and has just a little nitrogen in it. So i have 20 dry quarts of media, enough for 1 grow with some left over.
So i put the seeds in water at Noon......... just checked on them and they all sank none of them looked cracked but i took them out of the water and now put them in paper towels...I soaked the paper towel first, then wrang it out.made sure it wasnt dripping yet. Put the seeds on the paper towel gave it a quick mist with my spray bottle then folded it up put it in a zip lock with my humidity meter. i think thats a good humidity once its in the dark
This waiting game is for the birds lol.. so 6 hours in a cup of water........12 hours in papertowel i had to look....i think i see them cracking but i cant tell still no signs of taproot...............the Two afghans i planted straight into the soil 12 hours ago still not there either. I think i added a lot of perlit cause if i spray the soil with a bottle like 5 times it starts to run out the bottom... lol I said screw it and started germing the other 2 northern lights for fear that none of them will pop but i gotta give it time Temp under the lights are 82 degrees and humidity is 57 so The two afghan seeds have ziplocks im sure humidity is good and the Norhtern light seeds are in a ziplock on top of my LED light so they are warm ill just sit and check on them this afternoon
Day 2 Germ I checked the seeds under the humidity domes----cracked but not above soil The paper towel seeds 2 of them are open and i can just see the tip of the root....1 isnt doing anything i just started 2 more seeds. MAde a DIY ONA bucket but i didnt use ona i used Zep ODor Eliminator Liquid but everything else is the same..made my whole basement smell like dryer sheets lol. we will see as time goes on and i need it if it works......ill put it next to my grow tent
Day 4 So I got my tent today and set it up within an hour the temp shot up to 95 degrees so I opened the tent it dropped to 87.......tonight when I get home I'll be moving my tent upstairs into my room since it has air conditioning because obviously that won't fly. ....still nothing has sprouted above the surface yet hopefully tomorrow

Water less than you think you need too in the beginning. The plant will droop and say hey I am thirsty! If it droops because you have been over watering it, then you have hurt it a lot. Better to err on the side of caution in the beginning. Like most things in life, this is only an opinion.
well first sprout popped up snd the other two northern lights that were germinating had long roots so I planted them ......now my room is 75 degrees but when the tent is closed it shoots uo to 93....I really don't have money to buy a 4 inch exhaust fan to expelled he heat should I raised the lights higher....or is there any way to keep it cooler...with the front door open it stays 84 degrees 45 percent humidity but obviously when they flower the smell won't be contained.....sigh watering wise every morning I just give the tops e 4 mist sprays then the same at noght I don't think that's a lot. ...anyone have ideas for the temp
Day 4 Germ/Sprout So i Planted 2 Northern lights Autos 4 days ago and they are above ground.;Currently in Solo cups i will move them to there smart pots after about 2 weeks.. 1 is perfectly green and healthy looking (slightly pale leaf) the other came up but its Half yellow Not sure why....Temp is 84 during day and 77 at night....The light is about 1 1/2 foot away...Im using a mix of perlite and Ocean forest i hope it bounces back. The other 2 northern lights are in there smart pots i just planted yesterday so i expect within another day or two it should pop.. I also have 2 regular Feminized Afghans in solos im going to keep them in the solos and im running my lights 12/12 so the afghans if they make it will sex and flower 3-4 weeks.........I know everyone says 18/6 but 12/12 still has impressive yields and if i can make it to the end ill be happy either way. So any body that still wants to help me figure out the yellowing below that would be great...I have switched watering to once a day in the morning 5-8 sprays on mist setting of my squirt bottle.. Day 5 Germ/Sprout So checked on plants today seem ok still slightly droopy I am having a hard time figuring out if they need water or not. The 2 northern light cups i can tell are still moist because they have had humidity domes. The two afghans dont have domes and the soil looked dry at the top so i spryed them just until the top soil was wet and put sarah wrap back on them,,,,,,,,still waiting on the other two to pop up in there big pots.......Should i be spraying these sprouts with a water bottle or should i be pouring water into the solos until there is run off then wait a few days???? afghannorthern light northern light afghan
Do they look healthy it looks like the leaves are wilted and curled.......my tent is 59 percent humidity and 84 degrees light is 12 inches away ....I want this too work
I think you have you light about the right height, or your seedlings would stretching more.Now whatever you do is don't water them for about, 3 to 4 days. Once you past 10 to 12 days, thats the hardest part of establishing them. From your photos they all look fine to me. As for your temps they are abit on the high side, have you vents open on your tent? I think the size of the LED light you have is slightly too big for your tent, judging from the photo you posted of your tent setup. Get all your vents/openings open on your tent and you can also leave the tent slightly open too. But hate to say it your have to get some sort of extraction fan mounted up either inside or outside your tent, that you can connect a carbon filter/scrubber too from the inside. When you have the extraction fan mounted up it will take out alot of the hot air coming from your LED light.
all my seeds germed, i but i didnt plant the last two northern lights until sunday ,,,,waiting for them to pop up.......watering is hard because the cups are so light to begin with and the top soil dries out fast i cant tell.... eventually maybe i can find a small fan although i think a 4 imnch fan is too big for this tent. ill open all the ports
Nah 4" would only just be enough for it, but 5" would be better as once you have carbon scrubber connected you lose suction. With a fan control your be able to control the speed of the 4 or 5" extractor and would be almost slient. Your get more noise from LED light and noise from a clip fan, then you would the extractor fan, but you need to get controller for it.
all the reviews I see make 4 in fans being loud even when controlled....I can leave the tent open its 82 degrees 40 percent humidity when open
The cheaper 4" extracter fans would be loud, but a good branded one with a fan control would be almost slient and you would only need to run it on half power. But I'd go for a 5" extracter going by the size of your tent. 82 degress is fairly high, I'm running around a steady 74-75 degrees. Don't worry about the top soil getting dry, only water the cups every 3 or 4 days. Your be able to tell when the seedlings need water, from just looking at them. Also feel how heavy the cups are, if they are heavy they have enough water in them. I take it you have holes in the bottom of the cups for drainage?
yes I cut holes in the bottom I'm going to let then go today and tomorrow morning I'll water them....would it be better to pour water from the topen o water seedlings.......what's a good fan that would be silent at hakf power
