My very first grow was a deep water culture bubble bucket, and it worked very well for a novice. After years of creating
many different types of grow systems such as fog-ponics, aeroponics, flood and drain tables, exc, I have come back to the DWC design as the easiest to maintain, cheapest to run, and delivers some of the best results... Yes i know, aero gives higher yields, but there is just too much to go wrong, and unless if you are willing to put in the time, which i don't have, you are likely to get poor results and should have used a simple DWC which is the epitome of the KISS philosophy. (Keep It Simple Stupid)

This is from a bubble bucket with an air stone, ie the simplest form of hydro ever. Take note of the large swollen calyxes. The best feature of DWC is having abnormally large swollen buds.

I have improved on the dwc design by draining all the buckets to a resivor and adding an over powered drip system to each bucket. It is, in essence, a recirculating deep water culture bubble system.

What i used to buil the big room expantion.
    9 x 5 gallon bucket, Black
    9 x 5 gallon bucket basket lid
    10 x 1" pannle mount hose barb.
    1 x 20' excess of 1" hose
    1 x 20'1/2" hose for drip line
9 x barbed drip line connector
    1 x 100' 1/4" od drip line/air line.
1 x float valve connected to water source.
    1 x 29 gallon resivor/ dosing tank
    10 x Large Air stone
    9 x drip stake.
3 x Air pumps to = 10 air out ports.
1 x 45 lb clay pellets growing medium
    1 x 1000 watt hps/MH ballast w/ gull wing reflector
    1 x 650 btu digital air conditioner
1 x 5x5 pvc frame for SOG net
    1 x 16 inch oscillating fan.
    1 x 360 gph pump, i know.. oversized.

This grow is adjacent to my old grow set up, which was under a 600 watt hps in a 3x4 grow space with exhaust fan. The two grows share the resource of the exhaust duct and air conditioner.

It was finals week and i abused my mother plant, but despite a little yellowing, those clones are exploding roots into the buckets on day one. 20/4 time under MH bulbs

These are at day 2. i just added up to 300 ppm of low nitrogen nutrients. General Hydroponics. I am open to suggestions for more specialized nutes for marijuana. GH was great for growing ghost peppers, but i bet i could be doing better for this crop.

The plants doubled in height in one night after nutes were added.

I will update this journal with every thing from start to finish, including wet/dried weight. yeild per watt, and a comparison to the 600 watt, nearly identical, side room.

I was checking the ph and i found a new buddy. The lg g4 takes real nice macros, doesn't it? Be prepared for bud pictures of that quality. I didn't know he was so cute! I Almost SMASHED HIM. I think ill let him live and guard the crops.

Crop failed for unknown reasons. See video below. I need help in figuring out what went wrong.

  2. the $35 1k MH bulb creates a banded pattern on my camera. No matter where the camera is positioned, if the subject is cast in light from it i get that banded pattern. With the $85 600 watt bulb over the 2 plants, i get no banding, take a look at the pictures up top.. Is this an effect of buying cheep bulbs? Does any one know or have an opinion on cheep bulbs?

Those line happen from the MH/HPS lights dont know why, u can fix by getting a lense from the glasses they sell for u to wear while in grow rooms an the lights are on they have em on ebay for about $15 or so anyway that spider scared me cuz i thought my phone was goin haywire LMAO i had to back an then forward to make shure lol i would like to see the whole set up of this in a vid from start to up an running. Thats the first i heard of amyone sayin aeroponics gives a bigger yield over DWC i cant wait till i tighten up on my DWC skills i think i got it but the heat killed me then i got too anxious tryin to dry my buds so as u know they smell an taste like shit but they did look good before harvest LOL View attachment 1868682 View attachment 1868686

  4. I all ways throw a few buds in the freezer in a box with dry ice at the bottom during harvest untill its dry. It freeze dries them chemically and than you don't have to wait. It decarboxylates the thc which is what gives you the good high of a properly cured bud while drying it out. The chlorophyll doesn't degrade, so it is a little minty and has a throat hit, but its better than smoking it before its ready. My aero grow was under excessive led power so the results may not be fair.

I will do a video walk through of the set up when the plants are in mid vegetation and are more glorious.

take the shot through sunglasses and the lines will be gone. It's to do with the flicker effect. Sunglasses darkens the view so the shutter speed slows to take in more light. This stops the lines from appearing

  7. Where to buy materials?

  8. Cool Trick with the sunglasses. All the materials came from my local hydro store and amazon.

  9. Here is the video of the set up

  10. nice system, i have the equipment to run one of these i jus need to open the holes on my buckets to 1" cuz i made the mistake of doin a 1/2" line but on the test it seemed ok i just needed a ball valve on the return after the pump. So is ya pump inside the res?

  11. yep. The pumps are inside the reservoir.

Day 19. Going to vegg for about another 5 days.
Excellent growth with some minor nutrient deficiency. The plants are draining the nutes from the reservoir faster than i had expected and i will, likely, have to do weekly resivoir changes. What do you guys think, flower when they are half the height i want them to finish out at?

Those trichomes are on my carnivorous plant. It uses those sticky glands to trap and digest prey. I thought that marijuana people might appreciate a picture another type plant with glorious trichomes. I wouldn't want to smoke those.

  13. Nice plants that set up works real well, are those plants in any media besides the hydroton, like is the root crown inside rapid rooter cubes, rockwhool or just stuck in the hydroton?

  14. The clones were grown in rapid root cubes. This is the first time i have ever used them as apposed to rock wool and it works about as good, buts it's easier.

  15. I was actually thinking about doin this same set up with soil an turning the drip way down so the soil just stayes moist enough so the plants still get enough oxygen to tha roots. Ive been doin some reading an it seems as tho alot of people keep the soil moist never letting it get too dry cuz it will start to kill the roots anyway just an idea for now!

  16. Unfortunately this grow has failed. Sudden plant death: cause unknown. 1221 ppm and pH 5.9. 71 Fahrenheit in rez, 74 air. Cross section of stem shows all signs of healthy vascular tissue. this is showing all symptoms of the tobacco mosaic virus.

if one more plant grows i'm scrapping the grow and preforming an extreme cleaning. I will overload the system with pH 2 phosphoric acid and than an protease protein destroying enzyme treatment.

    Sad.

    any help?

  17. Dam i wish u culd send me a clone, fuck i wish i could help that grow seemed soo good. It sucks when something else ruins your hard work but if it was something you did its different.

Ok! i have something to go on! What could cause these masses of xylary growth in the nodes that i found on the mother plant!? I know that this often a symptom of viral infection in many herbaceous plants.
[IMG]see one sliced open here? Its a woody bulbous growth.
I guess ill just get my strains from a better source. I think that the clone store cought on to what they were doing because they had no clones to sell for months. Presumably, because they were cleaning everything and starting over.

I am going to try one last time. since im trashing the mother any ways, i threw it in the flower room to make up for some of the removed plants.
[IMG] it should fill out the space nicely, so long as i don't loose any more.

  19. shit man, that's very weird. Your nutrient solution is twice as concentrated as mine, that could be part of it.

Were those buckets getting plenty of air? Was the water circulating properly?

What exactly do you have in the nutrient solution? Some plants can be more sensitive to certain things than others

I find the nodes swell up like that when the plants are growing really fast. It's not something I have thought about much as almost all of my plants get swelling there and generally I don't get any problems. Most of my grows are like clockwork....... Unless of course I'm experimenting with something new

  20. Are the stems suposed to be red like that or is that from the growth on it?
