The Church, Indoor, Smart Pots vs Eco-Grow Pots Challenge

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by steppastyle, Sep 5, 2015.

  1. Day 14 of 63 flowering. 22% complete. Check out the last picture. Would that be considered root bound?

Side by side shot of both pots. It seems like the Smart Pots have thicker branches.

You really see the hydroponic properties of the Eco-Grow Pots. I'm not sure if this is considered "root bound"? Should I be using a larger pot?

  2. Day 15 of Flowering. So I am starting my week three fertilizing today. The grow space is really filling in and the plants have doubled their height since the flip to 12/12. I did a little trimming today and took off about the bottom 10% of the plants where no light was reaching. I am going out of town the next four days and am trusting the wife to take care of of the garden for me while I'm gone.

  3. Day 22 flowering... I have been out of town the last six days. The wife did a great job of taking care of the girls for me. All the church have stretched 1.5x their original height since making the flip to 12/12. Really no difference between the two styles of pots, except we have a couple inches more of stretch on one of the Eco Grow Pots.

  5. Ok, it has been a couple days since my last update. But the girls are growing super strong!

  6. So all those pictures I posted in the above post were actually taken last night right after the lights turned off so I could get some better light quality.

So today, is day 25 flowering.

I had to pull all the plants out to give them a good nutrient feeding. Gave me a chance to get some good photos. So to be honest, I think I have over loaded this grow space. If I wasn't trying to flower this Matanuska mom at the same time, I think this space would be even happier. They are just getting a little squished together. Especially after I zip up the tent; because of the negative air pressure from the fan pulling air.

This girl is in one of the Eco Grow Pot is doing awesome. I hope those colas just fill in!

  8. Day 28 flowering....

I am not seeing much difference between the two pots. I might be seeing better trichomes production on the Eco Grow Pots, but I'll hold off on making the verdict till the last 2 weeks

    ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1443396136.960723.jpg

Here is that really stretchy girl. She is about 8 inches taller than the others. She is in a Eco grow pot btw.

This girls is just as happy as can be. Those leaves are just praising the light!

Can't forget about that Matanuska that is just killing it. I'm glad I got some clones of her working in the closet.

  13. Day 31 flowering....

The plants in the Smart Pots are slowing down their water consumption. While the Eco Grow Pots are still drinking every three days.

  14. Day 37 of flowering....

Ok y'all. Been a week since my last update. I have some in-laws here so I have had very limited access to my grow room. I can't even get a proper watering in. These aren't the kind of guests I want to know about my extracurricular activities, if you catch my drift.

Anyways, I was able to pop in there and grab one good shot this evening.

    ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1444188572.393496.jpg

Looking at the leaves, there is some slight heat stress at the canopy. Otherwise everything great.

  15. Alright. It's day 38 flowering...

In-laws are finally out of the house. Aside from a small sip of plain non-ph'ed water two days ago, these plants have not been given any care. And for the most part they turned out really well.

I am seeing a difference between the two pots.

Here is a shot of the two Smart Pots. As you can see the beaches are filling out with colas that are pushing over two feet long so far and filling in the gaps compared to what we saw last week.

    ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1444240570.372404.jpg

Now here are the two Eco Grow Pots. As you can see, they have more stretch than the above Smart Pots and the branches at not filling in as much.

    ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1444241070.289348.jpg

At the end of the day it all comes down to quality of the smoke first and quantity of the buds second. So let's keep on trucking... Only 25 days until harvest.

  16. great grow man. your root zone on the early pic in the Eco pot is the bomb!!!!!! That's exactly what it should look like. Especially Since you said they were from seed right???

I've done about 21/2urs of growing with Eco grow pots and I've always had between a good grow and the bomb grow!!!!!!! Of course every time I make a growing mistake it's my fault. It the pots fault :)

Don't worry about the stretch this grow when comparing. It's because you're growing from seed. All your strains are not from female mothers so that's why one is stretching. And it's also getting more oxygen at the root zone in those pots vs a normal pot.

I'm doing my fist side by side of smart pots and Eco pots and just transplanted yesterday in beg from 3gal to 7gal and Flowering in 2 weeks:)!!!

Please finish your thread. I've never been able to find. Another good grower that is using these pots on forums.

    Can I ask a couple questions ?

    1. Do you refil the bottom reservoir once it's bone dry? Or do you always keep it topped off?

    2. Are you using full strength nutes for both type of pots ?

    3. Are you still only using MH?

  17. Hi Trusted, thanks for stopping by. The Eco Grow Pots were given to me, so I didn't know anything about them when I got started. Even a Google search will only give you one really bad quality instruction video. And their is no real info on any message boards around. So I figured I would try and help out the next generation of growers.

I usually wait until the pots start feeling light in weight before I refill the reservoir.

I am using full strength future harvest nutes on both. I worked my way up there by week three of veg. Never saw any negative effects.

I started with MH build for veg, then moved to HPS a few days after I switched to 12/12. Next time I will most likely keep MH until week three or four of flour then switch to HPS.

I'll keep this thread going up until they get out of the cure. Harvest should be in roughly 25 days. Hairs are just beginning to show some color to them, but all the trichome a are all still clear. But at the end of the day, the trichomes will be my main cue to harvest.

    Thanks!

  18. Day 41 flowering... 65% complete... 22 days till harvest...

So I pulled all the plants out to give a nice watering and was able to get some nice full plant shots.

  19. Day 45 flowering....

    ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1444826543.681688.jpg

Roughly 18 days left in flowering. But trichomes mostly clear with only a few turning cloudy, so this might go longer than 63.

    looking great steppastyle!!!!
Thanks a lot for replying in detail. I will try and put some pics up right now. I'm on day 63 and all my white widow are now hanging to dry and the rest will be done over the next week or so.

I only know one other grower that uses them religiously for the past 7yrs. His flower is consistently in the top 5 I've ever seen and lab tested its always 19-28% which is ridiculous.

I've had great grows with both yield and resin and terpene quality but I've also used them with top watering more than thru the tubes. Just because I do a lot of testing in every way shape or form so that way I can continue to compare every result I've ever had with past results and even comparing top watering to capillary bottom feeding.

This round I did top watering. In two weeks the next round is all thru the tubes with a new more airy soil mix I made. Then I will decide if I'm ever using them again.

I've done quite a few thru the tubes when I was doing all LED and 3-6oz plants and they were always great.

But now that I'm growing bigger ones I've been yielding 8-25oz per plant. Depending on whether I do 2 plants per 1000 or 4 per 1000w dbl ended in AC/DE hoods.

Here are a couple pics of my 45" tall white widows that have already been hanging a day.
