I see this a LOT...

  1. I know this is a religious topic.. but I put in General coz its more about interpersonal relationships.

As a Christian, i believe the "fairy tale" and all that. I dont find it necessary or even enjoyable to bait an atheist to a debate and then wrecking with a little actual knowledge.

As an atheist, you do not find it necessary to subscribe to Jesus. I just dont get why atheists just cant wait to call you a retard for having the audacity to believe there was actually a dude named jesus and the might or might have not been the Son Of God...

Either way the man was millenia ahead of his time and an amazing human.

  2. So were a lot of people.

I am pretty guilty of making fun of religion. I really ought to consider other people's beliefs more.

Having said that though some of you guys like the confrontations.

  3. This reminds me of a time the jhoba's( sorry if mispelt) witness showed up at my door. I was to kind to turn them down. and we talked for a hour or so..... Least the daughter that got dragged around to these things was hot lol.

I am a atheist. I don't mind other religions. Cause hay we all need to believe something. But dosent mean i want to partake.

  4. I'm an atheist. There are too many different gods all through history to believe in any of them. To each his/her own beliefs.
However, I can't abide proselytizing which is what Jehovas (sorry, seems I can't turn off the bold)Witnesses and Mormons do when they invade your privacy at your home or on the street.
Regular Christians who follow the teachings of Jesus are all right in my book. Just don't buttonhole me in Costco to talk religion.

  5. If I criticize religion and someone responds thn I'll keep going. If they simply say they don't want to have the discussion then ill drop it

Many atheists are outright rude and uncivil, I'll give u tht

  6. I don't get why it's always Christians vs Atheist's. Isn't there like a thousand different religions out there? Why is Christianity always reffered to?

  7. I have found many christians to be outright rude and uncivil. It swings both ways. I would consider myself agnostic.. I really don't know what is out there. I can see both views. But I have run across way more ignorant and obnoxious Christians then agnostics/atheists.

  8. Maybe if Jesus had written his own books and taken the time to fully explain his teachings, philosophical ideas, and way of life I'd study it and take him seriously, along with other great minds and writers.

But Instead all we have are accounts of a nut job running around town being weird that can't even be proved to be first hand experience.

And a good deal of the new testament is letters to churches from one guy in jail quite often. Seems like a legit source to base my life and decisions around.

I won't discuss the utter disgust i have with the modern Christian system.

  9. I've been spared from rude Christians. Here in Scandi atheists outnumber Christians so they have no choice but to be nice

It seems tht with any religious group (or political for tht matter) the more of them there r the more ballsy they are

I think it's necessary to criticize religion.

If a new policy was implemented in government it should be examined and criticized because it will affect other people. If it wasn't criticized how would we know if it's a viable policy?

Religion affects many people and the religious people have continued to indoctrinate their children into their religion. This will impact the course of their lives.

Therefore it is necessary to criticize religion to see if it's a good thing or not.

Religion has been shown time and time again that it is not a viable belief in today's world so it should be criticized to show the many inconsistencies and problems it has. If it weren't the indoctrination would continue and we'd have new generations blindly accepting religion as fact. Which is not a good thing.

  11. Yes, every religion should be self-critical. Else it degenerates into a self righteous hypocrisy.

  12. What actual knowledge can you possible have of a man that lived close to 2000 years ago? I'm not looking to debate your faith, Just curious to know.

And what evidence do you have to the contrary? Its personal and frankly unbelieveable.

  14. Ah the old "you can't prove that I can't prove it" argument, love that one...

  15. Well, I don't know about all that...He was something but it is unfair for anyone to make claims about him that cannot be proven, good or bad.

Now, Leonardo da Vinci was a hell of a man.[IMG]

  16. but, what if, robots built people; as better robots?

    da Vinci
    David
    Michelangelo

    ^^architects of intelligent design

Socrates, Plato, Aristotle <--Designers of critical thought

common craft - "Flight" (relatively thinking)

  17. I can't believe people look past things like the age of the earth (6000 years according to the bible) which clearly is not true. Then continue to argue the teachings of the bible like the things they are saying are factual. Nobody sites the bible in scientific studies. I dont see why it is socially acceptable to just believe in things without any factual evidence. Why is the bible any more influential or important than an old children's book? The bible wouldn't even look out of place in the fiction section of a bookstore today. The main problem I have with all religions, Christianity being the example I'm using obviously is the blind trust in things that can't be proven.

  18. And yet another thing the bible is way way off on. 6000 years??? Its only off by a few billion. Gotta love those fictional novels

  19. I think people should keep their beliefs and lack of beliefs to themselves because no one really wants to hear either, each to their own though [IMG]
