Tips for first time trying concentrates

    Hey everyone!

So here's the deal. I'd like to start using concentrates for a number of reasons. First, really bad chronic pain. I'd like a more potent relief option for this. Secondly, I'm somewhat of a purist at heart and like that vaping concentrates, especially solventless, is a healthier alternative to taking hits from the bong.

A little background: I've been smoking for about 8 years (holy shit, I feel old.) I've added hash to my bowls a number of times and add kief when available. Despite all of this, I am still very much a light weight. FOR EXAMPLE, last week, I took two hits from a joint in rotation and then took a sizeable bong hit (at least for me) and was so fucking high. Granted, it was my first time smoking that day, but still! I don't enjoy feeling like a noob, you know?

I've also noticed my tolerance tends to fluctuate depending on the day. I do yoga everyday so maybe that detoxes and keeps my tolerance a little low? I have no idea what makes this happen, it just does. But anyway, I know there are plenty of threads on here about people's first time dabbing, and some stories have freaked me out. I know I shouldn't psych myself out, but I wanna get some advice from more seasoned dabbers, or more specifically, people who have lower tolerances but still use concentrates for medicinal reasons.

Can people help me understand what the equivalent of a small, pin-headed dab is in reference to flower? (like, a pin-headed dab is the equivalent of a joint, two big bong hits, something else?) And if I haven't smoked for a few days, should I smoke flower first before taking a dab?

Also, I definitely love indicas. I enjoy a body high, and true sativas make me get in my head too much. Is dabbing more of a head high (even with an indica) or body high?

Any other tips you have for a first-timer who doesn't wanna be puking her guts out/an anxious mess (fucking crazy stories on here!) I know that the nail shouldn't be too hot so that coughing isn't as bad. What about with an enail though? What do people think is a good temp for that?

    THANKS EVERYONE!!!

  2. Have you tried vaping flowers? If you have a low tolerance not sure dabs is a good place to start. I bought a arizer air and love it

  3. Dabbing/concentrates spike up your tolerance hardcore. I know people that dab all the time and they dont even bother with buds anymore. Its hard to say what is the equivalent it depends on the quality but the biggest difference is it hits you faster and harder. Smoking a bowl or joint is a lot more mellow, and doesnt hit you like a dab does. Its also harder to gauge when you havent dabbed before. Personally Id rather smoke because of this reason, plus I just like smoking in general.

Vaping is pretty cool. I have an arizer solo myself. Its even more of a creeper than smoking a bowl. Tastes amazing and is a much cleaner high. Doesnt get you all burned out and tired like smoking would do. This is beacuse vaping is a lot more THC and smoking is a lot more CBD. Problem is you can keep vaping and vaping and might not know when to stop because you dont really get burned out. So it just depends if you want/need that CBD.

    Peace.

  4. Thanks guys! I also have an arizer and it's good. I like vaporizers. I just want something a little stronger for my pain. But I know concentrates are *a lot* stronger so I'm just trying to find a way to slowly start integrating them into my routine without getting totally wrecked.

  5. put a bit on top of a bowl. Light the corner and let the ember come to it.

  6. Thanks! Do you have any recommendations for a good concentrate to start with? I have heard that solventless is good for beginners because it generally has a lower THC percentage. What do you think?

  7. Ummmm uhhh no clue.

I havent used concentrates. Just know how to use them thought[IMG]

  8. No worries, thanks anyway!

  9. To a non concentrate user, I would attribute a pin dab to a good size bong bowl. Will leave you feeling good for a couple hours.

You will get a less intense high if you put it on a bowl of flower than dab/coal/hot knife

  10. oiiii. good size bong bowl? yup, that would fuck. me. up. :) thanks for your input!

  11. I've smoked for about 8 years now almost daily, with no tolerance breaks to speak of. Maybe 2-3 days were the longest i've went without smoking for those 8 years. I've dabbed almost exclusively for about 1 and a half of those years. While i dab almost all day, i go through only 2 grams a week still. I used to go through just under an ounce of flower ever two week. Your tolerance won't increase like some say, you'll save money, save time, save run ins with the law, and improve your health.

I still can share a bowl with a person and get high. A single bowl. My tolerance might have actually gone down to the actual plant since "quitting smoking" too. The ratios of cannabanoids in oil vs. buds is completely different, to the point the high is entirely different, and it's almost like two different tolerances. It's hard to explain. And then since you will only dab a small amount, it shouldn't mess with your tolerance anyway. Only get yourself just as high as you would if you had smoked. Dabbing is a head high, however take a fat dab, wait an hour, and feel those eyelids drooping... it's still in your body too... It's just the mental shift is so extreme you almost don't notice.

After you get an oil rig and your setup it ends up costing less too. You can make a $30 gram last just as long as a $80 quarter oz.

Then since you keep your rig and setup at home 90% of the time, there are no more hotboxxed, stinking cars, that will get you searched.

Then i have emphysema, at a very young age. Dabbing helps tremendously with my breathing. It's night and day compared to smoking flower.

    Dabs are the best...

  12. Hey! Thanks for your thorough response. :) so since it's much more of a head high, do you think it's even worth it to take up concentrates since what I'm looking for is more relief for my chronic pain? I know you said with globs you'll get more of that affect, but I really doubt my low tolerance would ever get me to the point of a big ol glob. What do you think?

  13. It is very worth it. It's a head high, but like i said it's just that the headchange is just sort of overpowering the other effects. When i'm sore from work i take a dab. I feel my knees or my back acting up, take a dab. Instant pain relief. It's almost night and day there too. My girlfriend is the same way. She complains about her aches but then forgets them after a dab. So it isn't just how they effect me. Oil can definitely help with pain. I do not know about chronic pain because i don't experience it, but given the fact the high does last longer and that the high already helps with my aches and pains, i would say it would.

Awesome! Thank you much, good sir. I guess I'll start with a bit on a bowl and hopefully work my way up to an oil rig. As someone who is prone to anxiety, head highs kinda freak me out, but I've been wanting to get into concentrates for a while so I guess there's no time like the present.

    Have a good weekend !
