Broken Stem... Advice?

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by Indicaluv, Sep 2, 2015.

  1. Help!! So I have a Northern Lights plant which just started flowering several days ago. Today I accidentally dropped the lamp on top of it and broke the stem about 8 inches down from the top. It split almost in half. I frantically searched the internet and found something that said to splint it and tie painters tape around it. I hope it works, I am so sad because it was just starting to flower out a little and was forming the beginning of a cola [IMG] My question is, will the top part grow back if the stem heals? Or is it hopeless now and does it need cut off? If I do top it, will I have to let it go back to veg state or continue with 12-12 lighting? There are about 5 nodes on the mid-lower part of the plant that weren't affected by the break. Thanks for any and all advice! Here are photos.

  2. We broke the main stem on one once and just put electrical tape around it and it did fine. They're pretty resilient. You only have one choice at this point...wait and see. It'll be obvious if that top is going to die off or perk back up and make it through pretty quickly. If it dies, just lop it off and let the plant finish on out. Whatever buds are developing below the top will just get more light and will develop on out better than they would have if the top were above it. That plant is awfully small to be flowering. I could have used some more veg time and a repot into a larger container. Happy roots make for a better harvest. It will also allow your plant to become stronger overall to veg it longer. You can top it a few times as it goes through the veg time so when you do get ready to flower it off, you end up with several bud sites. The trick to getting good solid buds is giving them sufficient light...a hps, hid, led or the sun. CFL's work well for veg but fall way short on the flowering end of things. Keep working at it. You get better with every one you grow. The more reading you can do about the growing process, the more it will make sense to you. If you growing in containers under artificial light, you need to have a good basic understanding of: pH, lighting, grow media, watering practices and nutrients. The pH of liquids going into your plants is a biggie. Would advise you to buy yourself a good quality pH tester pen and TDS/EC tester pen. These two things really help you to keep your plants healthy. Good luck! TWW

  3. I broke a main stem before, I just wrapped some cotton string around it to hold it in place, in 4days she was repaired.

  4. I feel this babe ain't gonna get any better, had you taped it up, real fast and applied foilar fed heavily diluted aspirin to deal with shock etc, then maybe, removing this twig now may allow the plant to concentrate on other prominent sites, no big deal I just did the same last week, also see it as attentive training for a forthcoming fungi storm?

    good luck
