New used car

  1. I'm pretty pumped I just bought a 2005 Toyota Corolla, 101,000 miles. $4500 outright. No bullshit loans or crazy insurance. Anyone have any super horrible loan experiences?

  2. Sounds like a future of happy driving for you, congrats on that bargain hunt!

Because you mentioned bad loan experiences, I applied for Fafsa in 2014 and have still received no monetary help whatsoever because of it. I was, however denied entry to Cal State Dominguez even though they accepted my transfer, and then rejected from my student status from junior college because I applied to too many classes and exceeded my welcomed stay. My back is to the chalkboard now... need hands for help! [IMG]

OH MY GOD .. A 2005 Corolla with 101K miles for $4,500?? Wow you got screwed .. You must've been higher than a kite .. what were you thinkin? .. i got a brand new 2015 honda civic w/ only 700 miles on it .. ive had it for six months so far .. now its up to 1,100 miles .. i only dropped $2,500 for it .. of course i got a car note but hey .. but for $4,500 i couldve gotten a new 2014 or 2015 jeep grand cherokee w/ no more than 1,000 miles on it .. but you get a 2005 corolla with 101K miles? Wow blade .. you shouldve shopped around .. you basically brought that car twice .. View attachment 1863449

  4. Where the hell do you buy your cars cuz I need to go there!

  5. You aren't buying 2014 and 2015 vehicles OUTRIGHT for what OP paid...they didn't want a note and apparently didn't want to have to pay anything other than basic liability (I never considered comprehensive and collision to be 'bullshit' or 'crazy' but to each their own).

As to whether they got screwed or not...depends on their market and what sort of shape the car was in. That being said, it is still more than I paid for two of my X-Types. And I would much rather have been rolling in a 2004 Jaguar than a 2005 Toyota, especially since they are ones that came from the more reliable era where you don't have to stand on one foot praying to Lucas, Prince of Darkness every time you get in to go somewhere.

  6. LoL .. In Vegas they practically give cars away ..

I paid for it all at once so that I did not need to have full coverage on it. And so I didn't have another bill. Yes, full coverage would be nice but $359 every 6 months as opposed to almost $1000 every 6 months just makes more sense to me. I understand the lack of coverage but the state I live in requires at least liability insurance to register a vehicle

  9. If it wasn't required/illegal to not have I probably would not have auto insurance at all just by choice. Feels like money disappearing into the air for the cost and as often as the average person has to make a claim

  10. He bought his car outright, you have a car notes with interest on them so in all reality you're basically buying your car twice. You also have to have full coverage insurance to pull out of any respectable car lot with a newer car. Cheers bro

  12. ..

Yup Cheers, Now of course there pros & cons to purchasing a new w/ low mileage and there are pros & cons to buying a 10 year old car w/ high mileage ... but it won't be me making frequent visits to the mechanic or stranded on the side of the road anytime soon ..

  13. You do realize not everyone lives the same place as you?

  14. You just seem like an asshole.

The dude owns his car outright while you sit there paying interest on yours, and he bought a Toyota, they're reliable as fuck.

  16. This dude is actually a chick, but yeah, Toyotas are known for their long lives. Took the old plates off my 94 Camry (272,000 miles) and stuck em right on the Corolla.

  17. A ten year old vehicle with just a tick over 100K is hardly high mileage. Hell, I racked up close to 400K miles on a 5.0 Fox-body back in the 90's and still got back almost half of what I had paid new. My four current vehicles are all over 100K and aren't making frequent visits to the mechanic.

The biggest pro to a situation like OP describes is that they have NO car payment...so even if they DO have to get work done, it isn't being done on top of a car note.

if you got a car note to pay off, you're he one getting fucked...paying on something tat only loses value unless you add to it, which costs more money...

instead of buying a car outright and adding to it to up the value without the additional car note...

my dad worked in a body shop his entire life and bought and sold cars more times than i can count...the thing he always said was have a car without a payment
