First Grow / No-Till

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by jhake, Aug 30, 2015.

  1. Hey grasscity

Been on the site for a few months, mostly as a lurker. I've read through a lot of the organics section; I gotta say you guys are the most caring, informative group I've come across. Big thanks to all.

Technically this isn't my first grow, but the first and second were more or less trial runs, ruined a lot of good bud due to environmental issues.

I have two secret jardin tents, one is a 5'x5' (6" raptor xxl -1000w hortilux super hps-quantum-2x 6" inline fans-1 osc fan) the other is a 4'x4'(kind xl750-6" inline fan). I also have a 2.5'x4'x7' wooden frame that holds a 4' 8 tube t5 that will eventually be home to my mothers and clones(currently I have potential flo and blueberry mothers vegging there)

The 4x4 tent currently has 3 NL autos and 2 critical autos just finishing up. Just pulled 2 purple power autos from the same tent.

This thread is for the next cycles in both tents. Right now in the 5x5 tent i have 3 pre-98 bubba kush and 2 dennis hopper kush, each in a 20 gallon no-till smarties.

    Soil mix :

    1/3 spm
    1/3 lava rock
    1/3 compost

My compost is farm compost from Tuthill compost farm in south lyon, michigan. I amend per cubic foot:

    1 cup neem meal
    1 cup kelp meal
    1 cup egg shell flour
    1/2 cup gypsum
    6 cups glacial rock dust
1 gallon of activated bio char

All of the no tills have the BAS clover cover crop growing in them. This upcoming week i will be topdressing with some homemade worm shit, amended with the above recipe.

Once the auto flowers finish, i plan on running 3 durban poison in the same 20 gal no-tills

I'll try to post some pictures soon.

I look forward to learning from all this community has to offer, thanks guys.

I don't recommend auto flowering plants to anybody, unless you have an extremely short growing season. Even then i would suggest utilizing a greenhouse or the like. I was in a pinch and gifted with them.

The purple smells like a grape and berry smoothie with a pungent musk so strong you can feel it in your sinuses. Multiple times throughout flowering, i would open the tent and almost fall over.

landlord is coming over to inspect today...man this reality is rough!

  5. what are you doing about the landlord? welcome to GCO!!

  6. I face my problems by hiding! it's funny, the only thing that i felt would help me in the moment was ganja.

I rent from a property management company, so no real "landlord". But they did have a rep come out, he just sat in his car. The inspector tried to get into the growroom, i said i legally can't let him in. Basically he told me he knew it was a grow room, he sees it everyday.

So i open up and show him the working smoke alarm(never actually went in), then we talk pro-legalization the entire walk through.
    karma? coincidence? I'll take it.
    :)

Thanks for the welcome, i am so glad to be here!

  7. Well that's quite a little forest you got going on. good deal on the landlord situation. take a load of worry off your shoulders if they need to stop by again. i have known some folks that have to tear it all down in the middle of the night and haul it out discreetly the day the landlord shows up. then they have to set that stuff up all over again.

  8. subbed for the show my friend. I am very interested as I plan on making the switch to organics, most like a no-till set up like yours. Its a bit scary to me right now, as im used to jus adding nutes to water and pouring it into the soil. Lol I am reading about TLO right now, I believe its a book by The Rev. Sorry for the rant, lol I do that. Nice to meet ya at any rate

  9. Sorry for the sudden dissapearance.

Had a sudden downturn in health, been recovering but i work long hours which doesnt help with recovery.

    @ladyluckybean

Since my last post, my landlord has entered 6 times, maybe more. My anxiety subsided after the first few.

Now to catch up! i have 3 bubba kush, 2 dennis hopper kush, 1 pineapple chunk, and a few small blueberry/flo plants that are now in day 5 of flower. First 3 pictures are about 3 weeks old.

  10. Congrats on finding true organics. Gardening any other way seems inefficient, silly to me.
I am sure you've found blue jays notill thread by now. Study the first 100 pages as if it were the first 5 books of the old testament.
Thanks for stopping by, can't wait to learn even more!

  11. Dennis Hopper Kush; maybe the most gorgeous girl I get to tend to everyday! I have never seen a plant with such tight node spacing.

  12. Where did you find the egg shell flour? Very nice.

  13. Hey jhake!! It has been a bit! I'm so glad you got a groovy spot to grow! Sorry about your health. glad to see you're back in action!

  14. I make it myself!

I save all my eggshells in an empty carton in my refrigerator. When it gets too full to close i crush them up and throw them in the oven at like 250F (maybe?) until they are browned up a bit. Grind em to a pulp and bada bing!

I feel like i got the idea from the city, not sure where though. Maybe the early no-till posts??

  15. Thank you, it means a lot:)

After reading your posts about mites in the lounge last night, i decided to do a thorough check of my undercanopy (i have been lazily battling a minor outbreak of these fuckers for the past two weeks).

    HOLY SHIT.

Ended up defoliating an entire trash bags worth of fans which were badly damaged and covered with the specs of satan....yada yada yada...

At sundown mixed some spray @ 1tbl neem 2tsp silica/gal and went to war. i mean by the end of this i was covered in neem. Went straight to work, no shower:D

Luckily, it works to repel human pests too!

  16. Ya know, I could be wrong but I just feel like a full tablespoon per gallon is excessive. I know that this is the recommended amount direct from Ahimsa (isn't it?)

I would personally spray your plants every 48 hours for a week and then go to every 3 days for another week and then go to every 4 days etc etc etc...

Those bastards are DEATH to plants and must be dealt with swiftly. They will suck the life out of your grow room until you are crazy.

FYI I get the same good results at 1 teaspoon of neem per gallon and even less in the flower room.

Best of luck. Do NOT slack on this.

  17. You said you'll spray at 1tsp/gal up until 2 weeks to harvest? I'm about halfway into week 2 right now.

  18. no - I'll cut that in half to a half teaspoon per gallon when it starts getting that close. I would stop spraying a month prior if you can get away with it - but I was in a pinch and had an infestation and couldn't just sit there.

I use 1 teaspoon per on vegging plants and up to the first few weeks of flower and then cut it to a half teaspoon per gallon if I need to spray beyond that point.

  19. Wow good thing I'm hearing this. Thanks a ton. I'm in battle mode for the next few weeks. This has me so freaked out.

At what point, if ever, would you consider using spinosad? Mint oils?

  20. Still battling these fuckers. Right when i think they're gone i find some dots on new growth. Been spraying 1tspneem/gal every other day. Gave them a neem kelp tea a few days back. When i sprayed tonight i put almost 1 tbl dr. bronners per galon as well. I'm now realizing my weekly ipm sprays havent been as thorough as they should have been. I swear it feels like i am never getting 100% coverage, the canopy is just so dense.
