Sugar free brownies

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by Corisaurus, Aug 29, 2015.

  1. Hello. Though I've been "lurking" around for a few years now, I had to make an account to post, so I apologize in advance if I shouldn't post this here, or if there is an already existing forum specifically for this question. I'm making a batch of brownies for myself and four other people. I've made them many times and never had any issues. This time, however, I have to make them sugar free, as one of our friends can't have sugar. She requested Splenda. (I'm not happy about it but, I agreed. I'm sure having it once won't kill me.) From what I've read, the sugar/Splenda conversion is cup for cup. So I don't have to worry about fucking up my ratios. But, I'm worried they won't turn out well....I heard they don't rise very much. Does anyone here have any experience with this? Help/advice and or brownie Splenda recipes would be much appreciated! :)

    Thanks in advance!

  2. I've cooked for a diabetic for years and wouldn't think Splenda would be bad at all. I have always substituted cup for cup. Never tried brownies but we've made pies, cookies, and other deserts.

  3. I hear it works great for pies, tarts and cookies. But cakes and brownies (or anything that rises a bit) it turns out terribly. Guess I'm going to find out. Thanks!

  4. Suger doesnt make things rise if your worried about that add some baking soda.

  5. I'll look up the baking soda to sugar ratio, thanks. I wasn't implying that sugar makes things rise. I was only stating what I heard. Multiple sources said that the "filler" that's in Splenda doesn't allow certain baked goods to rise the way they would normally. Thanks for the advice.

I'd rather have unsweetened brownies than splenda. they arent that bad, as long as it's not bitter. splenda is fucking horrible.

if you want rising I'd suppose adding yeast? I'm probably totally wrong

  7. Any links to good diabetic recipes? My mom is a diabetic and now that she is getting older things are getting rough and I finally convinced her that cannabis can help but she won't smoke or vape. I got her to eat some cookies that my friend made and they really helped with some of her symptoms but they were chocolate chip and really high in sugar content so a full dose could be a problem if she has a sugar spike.

  8. My dad is diabetic and I made brownies for him one time after he broke 4 of his ribs in an accident and all I did was replace the sugar in the brownies with Xylitol. Xylitol is a natural sweetener found in nature and is much better for you than Splenda. You can find it at any health store and some regular grocery stores have it too, just beside where you would buy Splenda.

I made a gluten/sugar free and vegan cake for a friend once and since I couldn't increase the temperature because I didn't want to cook out the THC I just let it cook longer, checking on it every 5-10 minutes. I have the recipe I used for my dads brownies if you're interested, just use the Xylitol instead of sugar.

  9. Im one of those people that believe Splenda is some unhealthy BS!
Just remember, the FDA doesnt care about your health, just beacuse they approve something doesnt mean its safe. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive...

I would recommend Stevia, its a natural sweetener that comes from the Stevia Plant. Its basically the natural/healthy equivilant of Splenda. Look into it.
