Major Thrips? Infestation

  1. So it looks like I have a pretty bad thrips infestation, I think they are thrips. Viewed them under a microscope and it definatley looks like them. Some pretty bad damage has been done to the leaves, the damage has spread to a lot of the plant and I can see the little fuckers everywhere. I am just wondering if there's any hope in these babies. I ordered some Monterey Garden Insprect Spray with Spinosad, I heard it works well against thrips.
What type of medium; soil or hydro? Soil
What brand and type of soil? FoxFarms Ocean Forest
    Indoors or outdoors? Indoors
What strain? 2 clones of high CBD strain from a friend
How old are the plants? 1 week into flower
What is your watering frequency and source of water? 3 days, or if pot feels light. Pur filtered water
What are the temps and humidity in the room? Stable 82, 40-48% humidity
    What size pots? 3 gallon
Any bugs? Look real close. Yes, a lot
Any other pertinent info? Noticed damage starting at the bottom of the leaves a week ago, started spraying neem and didn't seem to help it. My previous grow had a minor thrips infestation towards the end of flowering. Scrubbed and cleaned the tent down well afterwards.

I noticed the early stages of an infestation 3 weeks ago. Spread a thin layer of diatomaceous earth around the base of each plant. Also I place a layer in my incoming vents. Also every time I find a spider in the house I throw it in the grow room.

3 weeks later nothing, no damage no adults. I can't say they are wiped out totally but if they are there they are not in sufficient numbers to noticeably damage my girls.

p.s. I doubt a spider or two in your situation will wipe them out quick enough, you may need to look at waging full blown war on the fuckers - nematodes, lady bugs etc.

  4. They got bad quick too, I was treating with neem oil and it's like they just exploded and the fuckers are all over the place.

  5. I honestly have no clue where I could get nematodes, I know my local ace hardware has lady bugs depending on the time of the year.

  6. Google is your friend! :)

But you're right, finding a shop that sells them is like trying to find rocking horse shit.

  7. These little bastards suck! 15 years ago I lost a Northern Lights pheno that, to this day, was the absolute best I've ever had to these little POSs! I never had them before, took way too long to diagnose and used too weak of weapons on them. I did not have good results with either Monterey or Azomax. I wasted a lot of time by focusing on fungicides before I figured it out. I had been cloning this pheno for about 18 months and it was awesome. I lost this gem and only saved the other strain I was growing at the time by using Seven. I sprayed 2 remaining plants only one time and they were gone for good. Grew the plant out for about a month and took some cuttings. Rooted these and started some new strains from seed and ended up not even using the one I saved, LOL! Been growing over 20 years now and this is still my greatest disaster. A word to the wise... I got these SOBs because I took in a sick plant from another grow (stupid or what?) and I got what I had coming. Had been growing about 6 years and thought I could cure any problem! I knew I should NOT do it. Can't believe I was that dumb! Anyway, don't take thrips lightly, they can be tough. I've never had them since and that's the way I like it.
