    Howdy,

So I'm doing my first indoor grow since it just became legal in my state, and i just wanna get opinions from more experienced growers. i just wanna know what i should be doing differently and what parts of my setup are most detrimental to my plants health/growth, and where I'm lacking. keep in mind i started out pretty basic and built the set up as i went, and did it on an average budget (nothing too fancy). I started with multiple cfls in veg. i have 4 clones, 2 MK Ultra, and 2 Blue Dream. they have been veggin for about 6 weeks. All have been FiMmed, and all have been LST'd from around week 3, which seems to have worked pretty well. my concern is that, in my opinion, they should be bigger for week 6 veg, look a little dried out and very light green with some tips drooping, and to be honest they should be growing at a tad bit quicker rate according to my research. my scrog is beginning to start getting a fair amount of tops poking through the screen, in the pics it looks bad because I'm weaving them under to encourage lower growth though. running 18 hours of light a day. so heres my set up:

    - Grow box 5' x 4'-5' (LWH)
    - 4 plants in 4 gallon buckets
    - 6" glass hood reflector with 600 watt HPS and 2 feet above plants at 100% ballast (just recently switched from MH out of curiosity)
    - using a SCROG net which is 5X3 and 8" above plants
    - water about every 2 days just before lights out (experienced early overwatering and gnats, still maybe doing so but idk to be honest)
    - iguana organic grow vegetation nutrients (NPK ratio 3-1-3)
    - humidity around 65, and i have a cheap dehumidifier
    - temp stays between 85-90 degrees F....haven't installed air duct to hood yet [IMG]
    - 2 small fans
    - unfortunately, absolutely no reflective material along the walls/ floor
-relatively no pruning, except for completely dead leaves.

So what do you guys assume to be my biggest problems, or what is hindering my plants most? Im assuming my temp my play a big factor, am i cooking those fuckers? should i be pruning more under the net where its not getting light even though I'm in veg? are my nutrients okay? once again, remember its my first grow- any suggestions?

  2. Hey dude, you have a very nice setup. The only thing I would do differently, and that does not mean it's the right thing, is the watering. I try to follow the moon calendar to water the girls. http://www.rhythmofnature.net/gardener-calendar
    I guess it can't hurt.

  3. Watering at night is not a "best practice", you will wind up with mold, mildew, blight and or, a host of other potential problems.

I would work on your heat /air problem first and foremost. I haven't run CO2 yet, but I understand temps can run higher when you do. Otherwise, anything over 80 in my room starts to stress my plants. I keep it between 76-79 and about 45-50% humidity, preferably lower in flower... A good grow room typically has a good exhaust fan that can exchange/evac all the air in the room within 5 minutes. When my room gets too hot or too humid it trips the sensor for the fan to suck out the "bad" air. That light is hot! Air cooling it... will reduce the temp considerably, but an exhaust fan is a must IMO. Lastly I blow air above and below the canopy with a combination of box fans and oscillating, standing or wall mounted units.

You can veg and flower plants under MH or HPS, most prefer to mimic the outside environment as much as possible. Surely there is some reasoning behind it and likely some science as well - will the color make a difference in yield or quality? I don't know that there would be much more than a marginal difference at best.

Happy Growing and best of luck!

  4. yes heat is not good and also don't defoliate either it will slow down the growth you need the leaves to provide energy

  5. I would get some ventilation in there and get your temps. down. Over 80º stresses your plants and it REALLY stresses me out!
Other than that, looks like you have things covered. Best of luck on your grow, Comrade. Phezisica
