I want to learn the guitar, and other stuff.

  1. My dad has always been into music, was in a band most of my early life, and basically music was a big part of me most of my life.

My dad usually played the drums but eventually learned guitar and bass. He tried to teach me when i was younger but my ass was too busy playing video games and other shit, basically not giving a damn. Was kinda distant from my family. I very much regret it now.

Anyway, now i would love to learn to play. While im sure my dad would be willing to teach me, i dont live near him anymore so it would be hard.

Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? Maybe youtube videos that help out or anything i could buy. Or starter guitars/kits that would help me learn? Any suggestions welcome.

  2. Just play the skin flute.

  3. justinguitar.com is the most highly recommended resource for beginners.
Get ANY guitar. Don't get caught up in the gearhead talk when you could be practicing.
I taught myself from guitar.about.com or something lol. Once you learn the basics/reading tab, you're set until you hit your next plateau. Have fun learning songs! [IMG]
Once you reach the place where you can smoke a bowl or have a beer or two, zone out and just let it flow out of you, all the struggle of learning will be worth it. You will want to pick up a guitar every time you see one.

  4. I would recommend hitting up craigslist and find a guitar for cheap. Lots of people try to become the next superstar and buy a guitar and realized it wasn't for them and later sell it for cheap to recoup their loss.

YouTube has lots of informative videos from pro/amateurs players. Try to watch videos that show the fret board since that's the most important technique. Your left hand is your best friend (if you are right handed) vice versa.
