Just got diagnosed with Chronic Bronchitis . . . Vape, Edibles, or keep smoking?

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by ClearSoulForces17, Aug 25, 2015.

  1. Hi all, here is my story for those who care to read . . .

I'm 31 years old been smoking herb daily for about a decade now, from age 26 till just about 2 weeks ago was about a 1/2 pack a day smoker. A couple of weeks ago I had an instance where I became extremely short of breath, and ended up driving myself to the emergency room. They took chest X-rays and said my heart and lungs were fine, a week later I followed up to have a pulmonary function test. When the results came back they showed that I had Chronic Bronchitis (not the kind you take anti-biotics for that goes away).

This is a condition that I will have for the rest of my life which I have no one to blame but myself but I am completely baffled that I could get this disease @ 31. Shortly after my trip to the ER I would have random instances mostly at night of being short of breath. After quitting smoking cigs completely it seems to be getting much better as the last time I had trouble breathing was about a week ago. The entire time though I have still been smoking about a blunt per day.

I was wondering if there was anyone out there who has / had a similar experience it's crazy that just 5 years of smoking cigs and an 1/8th every 3 days weed habit would cause me to get this disease so early on.

Are there any smokers out there who have CHRONIC Bronchitis? What do you do? Do you still smoke? Have you switched to edibles? Is Vaping a good alternative?

All of the info that I have found online is very mixed, some studies say there is an association w/ Weed and COPD and other studies show no association at all. What do you all recommend? The kicker is that I also have mild clinical depression and insane ADD, weed is what I use to treat these ailments because I refuse to take crazy pills for the depression and the meth that they push for ADD.

(Chronic Bronchitis is part of COPD, COPD is usually Chronic Bronchitis w/Emphysema which praise Jibbers Crabst I don't have that)

Any and all Info / Suggestions are welcome . . . I really REALLY don't want to give up smoking weed but if I have to I will . . .

    Thanks everyone

I smoked at least twice if not more a day, everyday for a year and a half. I ended up having respitory problems and chronic coughing due to it. I was so enraged that smoking the ganj caused this and was preventing me from further use. I have not smoked since then. It's been almost a year and I still do not smoke due to the fact I just had a baby boy. But my grandfather recently passed away and left some inherited money to his grandchildren. I invested $400 into a vaporizer, and I believe it to be a very good and wise investment for my stoner life. There is absolutely no risk involved and for you I believe it's the best option as well. You don't have to get a super expensive one like I did, but you get what you pay for. I bought the mighty by Storz and Bickle, the best of the best vaporizers on the market right now.

Oh! And I also had chronic bronchitis as a child... tWICE! It went away after awhile. Do not stress over it so much. Just make healthier decisions and it may leave

  3. Hey, my condolences you are experiencing this at such a young age! Whether weed or cigarettes caused this, probably doesn't matter. What matters is that you have it and should stay away from any potential lung irritants. While smoking mj is proven to irritate your lungs and could even damage them, vaping is a lot less harmful and in a 2010 study there was even improvement in lung health among 20 individuals who vaped for just one month. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/20451365/ that is the link to the study. However, everybody is completely different. While you should completely avoid smoke, and if you do decide to vape, do It with extreme caution. I too treat add and even asthma with the great ganja, however I have found edibles is a different high, one that (with the same strain that helps me relax and do paper work) I could not focus or think enough to do any type of focusing. However, your health is the number one priority here. The Lung Institute states that while THC *may* help open airways and improve lung function, the smoke will most likely lead to more infections. They also state that THC is a bronchodilator. This is a lot of information I apologize, but out of all this, this is my conclusion to you. THC could greatly benefit your lung function, however the smoke will deteriorate it. I couldn't find much about vaping but reading some forums suggest even vaping with bronchitis is dangerous. I say stick with edibles. I truly hope you are able to keep symptoms to a minimum! I'm currently working on growing my own stash, so I am not medicated and this post is all over the place  I hope I could help at all.

  4. Daily smoker here, herb for 10 years, exclusively bong smoker for 7.
I quit tobacco a few years ago cause I got bronchitis crazy bad, did the manly thing and didn't go to a doctor until I physically couldn't inhale.
Since then iv not been right, haven't been diagnosed as chronic but suffer a lot of similar symptoms to OP.

My best advice would be quit the tobacco cold turkey, get a vape pen if you need to control the nicotine cravings. Then switch to a vaporiser for herb/oils. I invested in a tabletop vape about a year ago and my lungs thank me everyday.

  5. Been off the cigs for 3 weeks total and just smoked my last blunt yesterday. I'm going to give my lungs a much needed rest and see what happens. If anything I think I will just go with edibles in the future, I'm not against Vaping however with the damage I've already done I don't want to do it unless I know it's totally safe.

Now time to speed dial the broads I knew in college that used to bake sheets and sheets of brownies for my crew and have them do something important with their lives, haha.

    Thx for the replies

hey there! Been smoking 25 plus years took a 10 yr break cause of kids came back to the herb for the benifits. Anyway during the non smoke years I got a dx like yours wtf..at 42? ended up in hospital for pneumonia then a drug indused afib..started smoking and vaping when I can with wax (non legal state) haven't had a flare up in 3 yrs..official medical study no but my experience. Told my dr yesterday during check up and told her I smoked and as long as I was keeping shit together she would rather me do that than drink, pain pills for joints, daily advil etc..the most I do med wise is heartburn pills cause I have tons of stress! Dr. gave me a supply of some other pills but told me flat out smoke a joint first this pills are knock out pills..mom has cancer, special needs kid,ocd husband etc. But lung wise I am fine now..

  7. Zigzag sorry to hear about the difficulties you're going through, however it is encouraging to hear that your lungs are better. I have noticed a great improvement in my breathing since quitting smoking everything. Unfortunately it makes me a lot more on edge but I have been able to channel some of that by working out more, playing basketball etc. . . I also agree with the doc as I don't trust the pharmaceuticals at all. I sincerely hope that things get better for you with the tough times you are going through. Thank you for reaching out I appreciate the info.

I have been a daily smoker for over 20 years. I do not smoke cigarettes or tobacco of any kind. If I get a chest cold or just feel clogged up I take a few weeks break from combusting any. I do however vaporize it during that period. I usually feel fine after a few days but give myself a little more time to be certain. I would stop smoking all tobacco all together if I were you. Smoke when you feel good and vape when you don't.
Edibles, in my opinion, make you too lazy. They do not give you any kind of an up high just a down high. At least that's my experience.

  9. Start munching edibles.

You will soon find the right balance and dosage.
