Organic Water only Sog All Help Appreciated

  1. Hello, I am thinking of starting a small grow but I am struggling with a few aspects as this type of grow is new to me, so I was hoping to get some opinions from you guys!

I am planing to to a SOG set up with plants vegged for one or two weeks then finished in 5 liter SIP pots which I will make myself. (Based on this design > https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=sub+irrigated+pl... )

I am aiming to have all the nutrients in the soil so I was going to start with small 1 liter pots for veg (Light mix) then put into the SIP pots with a batmix soil once I start flowering. In the last 4 weeks of flowering I wanted to add some indonesian bat guano and molasses tea once a week as an extra boost. The strain I am planning to do is GrapeGod which usually ends quickly after 65 days.

I would really appreciate it if somebody could tell me if 4 liters of a batmix such as house and garden batmix would be sufficient for the whole flowering cycle with just water added. Also, would there be a possibility of burn if i was to add a tea once or twice a week in the last 4 weeks of flower?

Any input would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to learning on this forum and hopefully one day in the future helping others here too!

    Cheers!

  2. Anybody used soil only give me an indicator if this amount of soil/pot size will be ok for a young plant to flower?

  3. I made SIPs in several sizes for use on my patio outside.. The smallest from a 3 gallon bucket dried out much to fast with to small a water chamber and the small size really stunted the plants.. The 5 gallon buckets are as small as I would build again.. They wind up with about 1.5 gallon water chamber and 3 gallons of soil.. A respectable 4 foot plant can be grown in them.. The largest my 17 gallon units really do best having a 5 gallon water chamber and roughly 10 gallons of soil.. A 6 foot plant or better is easy to run in them..

I've done grows as small as a solo cup but it's just not worth the effort for such a tiny end amount.. For plant in pots smaller then this I'd just run standard square pots and water by lifting.. Light pots need watered.. Heavy ones don't..
4 ltrs is only about a gallons worth of soil.. Just my 2 cents..BNW
Edit:: We all create our own grown style with an idea from here and some bit from there and the space we have to work in..
My own started in a cardboard box full of CFLs.. LOL

Retired now it and another just like it served as my veg space for 2 years..

  4. Hey cheers for the reply! Off the bat looks like you enjoy your DIY lol Im not sure im as skilled but I would love to give that design ago as I can imagine the plants would look beautiful. Only problem is that for now I dont have the room for large plants which is why im doing small sog plants but in time if this goes well I will def try bigger ones!

  5. Nobody else has any knowledge on this subject?

i think you will get better results using fabric pots in a swick system, where the pots all sit in a tray filled with wicking media (like perlite or pumice). its way easier to maintain and setup then sips. look for noob wannab's swick thread for how to do it.
i also grow in a SOG but i use a 100gallon smartpot and all my clones go in the same bed, bigger soil=bigger plants!
my last run, which was my first in my own mix i did 16 plants in that 100gallon and got great results. you can look at my journal to see that.

as for soil, i dont know that brand so i cant comment on that but if you make your own soil with a good humus source you sure could let it take care of your plants with water only. that's what most peeps around these forums do so thats probably why no one knows about that soil.

there's a couple threads about mixing your own its fairly easy and you can keep using your soil over and over. look for the soil for beginners thread and the no-till thread for all the info on that.
