Need Help With PH Issue

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by MugsySiegel, Aug 23, 2015.

  1. So I soaked my hydroton for two days in 5.5 ph water. I than ran my DWC drip setup for a day and ph'd my water to 5.5ph and planted my freshly sprouted seeds in the hydroton. Today the ph is 6.9ph this is distilled plain water too. Should I just leave it be since in 5 days I have to do a full change and start on weak nutes or will this be a problem? TIA

any algae on your airstones... ...typically algae and or pythium creates a big spike in ph...no rockwool right, just hydroton..soaking is good but rinsing 2-3 times is needed..probably high ph due to not rincing thourally

  3. No rockwool and no algae, brand new bag from germany too. I rinsed it 3 times and soaked for two days in ph'd water. Brand new buckets stones everything. Will it be fine for 5 more days till I drain and fill with nutes since this is just plain water on a freshly rooted sprout?

  4. I'd drop the pH to 6.0. It shouldn't take much pH down at all to move distilled water.
Even though it's still just a spout, You want to be in a habit of adjusting the pH if it goes out of range (5.5 - 6.5).
No point in risking stunted growth over a few drops of pH down.

Thanks man,I'll lower it tonight at lights on. I think its just the hydroton being a clay thats raised it. All the sprouts look green and healthy and aimed towards the light!

  6. Yep at first keep your ph 5.5 to 6.2 range just like all the time!

IMO, PH tends to fluctuates excessively during the seedling stage. Since there's no nuets, which normally buffer your ph. Like everyone said....just keep ajusting.
