Need help Ebb flow, coco, LED grow - J1, gorilla glue #4, ambrosia

  1. Hello everyone!

This is my first MMJ grow, prop 215 compliant, and the first 6-7 weeks were nothing but problems. I feel mostly due to bad clones, 2 gg #4 and 2 J1. They were very yellow and way too saturated when I purchased, and took about 4 weeks for the roots to develop enough to transplant... I had some random seeds that I sprouted the same time as the clones. Within 3 weeks they had completely surpassed the clones in root development and new growth, but sadly they weren't female so I just kept the 4 clones.

Has anyone else experienced this before? Bad clones or maybe they sold them too me too soon before any roots developed?..

I started 4 more feminized seeds 17 days ago, they sprouted within 3-6 days and have been in a dwc for vigorous root growth. I transplanted them two days ago into my Oxygen pot buckets and will continue to hand water them for another 7-10 days depending on roots/growth. I'm feeding them a very light mix of H&G base A&B (25% strength), roots excellurator, b1, and recharge (1tsp/gal) with a total ppm of about 170. They look almost as if they had no shock, growth continued but I'm noticing very light spotting toward center of leaves.. Cal/mag deficiency? I'm running RO water and didn't plan to add any till next week when I increase nutes to 50% strength.

Here are a few pics of my grow, ALL plants are in a 70%-30% mix of pebble and botanicare readygro (70% pebbles not coco). I started it with 50/50 but the coco was holding too well and was defeating the purpose of my ebb & flow system.

I am going to keep vegging the 4 until the seedlings are large enough to flower and I will then flower all 8 at a time. I wanted to try some LST and noticed my large J1 had fallen sideways when I increased the lighting. It looks almost as if it is LSTing itself since it looks healthy still.. Is this something I should worry about? Or do I let it grow up again by itself?

Any tips, grow knowledge or pics of similar grow setups (LED, coco/hydro, etc) I encourage you to post!

I'm currently flooding every other day (sometimes 3 days if it's cooler), Temps range between 81-86 on average with about 50-60% humidity, 24 hour light cycle with one 650XML diamond series LED by advanced LED (which I trucking love) and a 200w black star by lighthouse. I have a 660 solar storm by California light works on its way which I'll replace the black start with. 2. So i am no expert by any means, I could very well be wrong but here is my guess at what the problem could be.

Coco likes to be wet from everything I have read the majority of problems come from salt build up when the nutrient solution begins to dry out in the coco. So my guess would be that there is some sort of build up in your coco.

Bad clones def play a part. Bad genetics or unhealthy clones are contributing.

Another thing is that root development is more prominent during dark cycles. From experience 24/7 lights works but plants like us need sleep. Switch to 18/6 or 20/4.

*side note - running less darkness in veg will result in longer time for bud devoplment when you switch to 12/12. The plants have a hormone that is crucial in flowering it is only produced at night.

I run 100% coco drain to waste, with many short waterings throughout the day. Have 0 experience with ebb an flow. So this is only based on what I've read about coco and my limited growing experience but hope it helps. Looks like a nice set up and those fem spouts look good

  3. Thanks for the advice skitlz! The flood takes about 5-8 minutes, would you recommend flooding daily now? Roots are exploding! They are completely popping out of the bottom and sides of the fabric inner bucket. It's also 70% pebbles...

    Thanks for the advice!

  4. I agree with skitlz that upping the frequency of your feeds will result in more rapid growth, especially in a hydro setup. As long as that water you are flooding in is aerated enough and loaded with nutes, the plant will make enough roots to thrive, or it will die. That's how you tell "bad" clones apart from good ones .

  5. Defiantly go up a little bit start daily, and maybe someone with more ebb an flow experience can give u more help but pebbles retain almost not moisture so you wanna make sure that those roots do not dry out.

Most ebb set ups I've seen seem to run three times a day especially with a medium heavy on pebbles

  6. Thanks for the advice, I will start doing daily feeding cycles and see how they respond. The roots are popping out of all sides and bottoms of the buckets, very healthy looking.

Coco retains more water than clay pebbles for sure, which is what I, ebb and flow in using with 5 gal buckets. For this reason, I push the water 3 or 4 times a day depending on the light cycle...

    How's it looking BTW?

  8. I apologize for this very late reply. I thought I sent you over to my new journal. I added some new herbs and a new light
