FiveToMidnights FIRST GROW-Coco/Perlite-Northern Lights-MarsHydro 300W LED-2015

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by FiveToMidnight, Aug 17, 2015.

  1. Hi guys,

I have built myself a 1200mmX900mmX450mm box to house my girls and fitted it with a 4" Carbon Filter with ducting through a 4" inline duct fan and a MarsHydro 300W LED light.
I will be growing 3 X Northern Lights Feminised which are germinating at this present moment using the old paper towel in saucers technique. Once tap roots are showing, these will be put in to seedling peat pots and then into their final home in 7.5L plastic pots.
I have purchased some General Hydroponics Flora Micro and Flora Bloom as well as some PH Up and PH Down as my nutrients and will be growing it all in a 75/25 Coco/Perlite mix.

Once in the peat pots I will be feeding plain water and then nutrients after week 2 at 1/4 strength. (This is what I have been advised) If anyone can suggest a better plan for this please feel free. I'm not 100% sure if I should be waiting until week 2 in the peat pots or week two in the large pots.
The formula I will be using is (per Gallon/3.7L):
    6mL FloraMicro
    9mL FloraBloom
1g epsom salts (only use this one if they show signs of mag def)
    pH to 5.8-6.2
Again, any suggestions to this are greatly appreciated.

Here are some pics so you can see what I have done. Any comments are highly appreciated!

    Questions:
Can someone please tell me what the PPM I should be aiming for should be and how to change that if it is too high or too low?
Can someone please tell me if I should be adding nutes in week 2 of being in the peat seedling pots or wait until week two of being in the large pots?
Can someone please tell me if I should be putting them straight under the LED light as soon as they are in the seedling peat pots or wait until they have sprouted above the coco?
Can someone please explain how I should be flushing them? I have plastic basins under the pots to hold any run off but should I be emptying that before flushing? or after? or at all? Sorry but a bit of explanation around this task would be awesome.

Any help that anyone can provide is HUGELY appreciated. I wouldn't have made it this far if it wasn't for the generous help of so many people on these forums.

I really hope you enjoy my journal!! :Namaste:

  2. Are you saying you don't think it will be adequate enough light for three plants?

  3. From what I understand and what I was advised I think it should be adequate, but we shall see how we go.

She's looking very nice in that picture, should be a nice harvest.

Thanks for jumping in for the ride!

  4. Max is 50 watts per sq ft. On another note, man that isn't enough room at all. These fucking plants STRETCH & GROW just as its name is, WEED. you going to be up shit creek without a paddle wishing for more room after awhile.

  5. Thanks for your advice Chase Kust but if that was the case I don't think people would be growing in cupboards or pc cases.
You should research how to train plants and keep them small. Its very possible to get a nice yeild in this sort of space and smaller.
We will see how this one goes and maybe make some changes for the next one

  6. One thing I don't need to research is maximum light wattage and sq ft...

If your running m/h in veg and hps in flower, inside that, then you won't be able to go anywhere near 750 watts without heat issues out your ass. Better have an ac going in there.

To grow good marijuana, you must have a good environment.

But hey, trying to help you, good luck man.

Ps. People that grow stealth, usually have led or other form of low heat lights that don't compare to m/h or hsp.

  7. I'm running a 300w MarsHydro LED, not m/h or hsp.
I do appreciate your comments, I wasn't trying to be rude.

  8. Which I see now you are running led. Lol... o man. Long day bro.
Go to town then, top it after a couple weeks or just lst it.
And your plants shouldn't need any type of feeding at 2 weeks. Majority of the time, it's after a month or more from germination that nutrients will help and not harm them. Remember, embryonic leaves (cotyledons) will supply your babies with nutrition for a good while. When they turn yellow, definitely need to feed.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate all the help I can get.
I will keep what you said in mind and see how I go. I'm not expecting perfection being its my first grow but hoping to get at least some decent results.

I just need to work out when I should be putting them under the light and how far away the light should be.
Would you have any suggestions for that at all?

  10. Just had the first little girl sprout last night and have put it under the light. Light is at its maximum height at the moment but will move as needed.

What do you guys think so far?

  11. Just staring my first grow as well. I like the cabinet. It's kinda what I'm going for on my next one. I am torn between led and hps/mh. I subbed to this and excited to see how they do.

  12. Thanks for checking out my journal. I like the box but having no carpentry skills it knowledge made it quite a difficult project. Make sure you know what you're doing or get help cause I found it much harder than first thought. Might be better to get a tent if stealth isn't a big issue.

I chose LED due to price, power consumption and heat. All these factors were lower than hps/mh which made it ideal for my setup

  13. Light height depends on a few things, most importantly the heat of the light. If you have a cool tube and can hold it with your light on and it isn't hot to touch then put them close as u want unless you see any signs of stress.

  14. I don't have a heat tube as I didn't think I'd need one with LED. Do you think I should consider one?
Its not too hot to touch, the heatsinks and fans seem to keep it cool.
I just didn't want to stress it in such an early stage but will experiment a little

  15. I don't even know if you need one, or if there is anything for led, but for m/h and hps cool tube is a must have, if running high watt lights.

  16. That's what I thought was the case. Will see when I get home in about an hour how she is going :)

  17. If it is too hot for the back of your hand.then it's to hot for your girls. Those LED Hardly throw off anything. Which can be a problem in winter.

  18. That's what I have been told and lead to believe, thank you.
Without the extra small fan I added yesterday the temp was 30 degrees Celsius in there, so I don't think I should have a problem. It's still 12 degrees at night here. We shall see though, time will tell

  19. Pictures from tonight after day one in the box!!

  20. I never could grow small plants, I've always had the mentality to go big with everything in life, it's strange seeing a small set up. It looks real good tho brother... and I can't wait for winter, purple nugs all day! :))
