extreme cheapskate straining

  1. (Firstly, I had pics to go with this but I somehow lost them.)

So I made a batch of about 2 cups of coconut oil. After I finished straining most of the oil out of it, I kept the herb.

I figured there must still be some oil left in there that could be salvaged, and so I decided to dump the herb covered in oil in a cup, and pour in some hot water.

I let it cool down, and in the fridge it went. After a bit I took it out, and this is what floated to the top near the edges. I scraped it off and set it on a plate.

I put that into some container and melted it

    then strained it

I got this much out of it like 2 teaspoons at best.

Is it possible I could get more oil out of it? Maybe if i put it in the freezer? I want some opinions and people's experiences. For some reason I can never get the full amount of oil I start with, maybe im just too messy and it spills

  2. There is always oil lost because you can't squeeze it all out. You're not sloppy. I don't think you can get anything else out of it. Good luck.

  3. If you want to conserve every last drop and feel like you are "using every part of the buffalo" then simply don't strain. The herb chunks won't kill you. I grind mine very fine with a coffee grinder so it is like a powder/flour. ;)

  4. How does it taste, puddleglum? I've always been scared to grind the cannabis fine and leave it in the butter/oil. I'm afraid it will taste too strong. Maybe I'll try it with a small batch.

  5. I prefer to strain. :)

My "using every part of the buffalo" compromise is to use the spent plant material (after straining) and infuse a new batch of virgin oil, and then strain that oil and use it for massage oil. (And the twice-used plant material goes in the compost bin.)
