Basic Income Guarantee

  1. The big jobs that are gonna be eaten by automation in the future are all drivers like bus drivers, taxis, and other services like that when self driving cars are the standard. On top of that soon enough fast food places will probably start using more automation/ possibly order through touch screens. Then you have all sorts of robots coming out to do jobs like caddies and shit. I don't think anyone can fully predict the scale of automation in our society, especially due to the fast growth in technology. We could eventually hit a tipping point where there are so many robots that people want more human interaction and markets open up for that. One thing is for sure, automation will definitely eat into certain job markets in the future. We'll see if there's new shit people can move on to when these job markets dry up.

  2. automation isn't the problem

    Minimum wage is

    -Yuri

  3. minimum wage at like 75% of the places here where i live is still less than 8 dollars an hour. Add that up, working 40+ hours a week(whitch prboably wont happen) and then look at living expenses, travel expense, daily expenses, etc..even if you becme very basic person and didnt have almst any bills, thats still not enough for one person to support themselves. In-fuckingpossible. Even at 8 dollars an hour its still pretty fucking tough.

  4. minimum wage is not living wage

You shouldn't be able to live on minimum wage. If you draw the line at "living wage" you instantly remove peoples rights to have jobs in high school/college, or second part time jobs, or temp jobs, or even just fun jobs, or any other kind if job where they just want some extra mmoney and not necessarily a living

Also unless you have kids most people can in fact live on minimum wage.

  5. As I said before, at least once on this thread, automation does not reduce overall employment.

Sure, specific job sectors will be eliminated, like the buggy-whip makers and blacksmiths when the automobile became popular, ditch-diggers when mechanized equipment came into the market, etc. etc. etc. But the slack is picked up by the industries necessary to produce and maintain that equipment that didn't exist before.

And the overall standard of living is raised because of it.

This isn't hard to figure out.

  6. Eh, not really. Robots don't need healthcare and can't file lawsuits on their own behalf. The cost of labor probably becomes close to that of robots, but robots will always be cheaper because the only expenses are electricity and maintenance.

  7. until AI is invented, which is part of why they think we will be replaced.

Idk why anyone would believe a smarter stronger faster more qualified machine would work for less than a human if it had sentience

    -Yuri

  8. Maybe we are far off from the world of abundance in which this would be necessary or actually wanted. But I can see a future where we will be able to take care of everybody and agree about it, especially with the advent of 3d printers and further robotic automation.

But yuri's point about the motivation of truly sentient automation is interesting. I don't think a sentient AI would be used for laborious jobs as those wouldn't necessarily need a complex mind. Though on exploritory missions or in human support I could see it being used. Even then though why would they help us. HAL 9000 comes to mind.

Maybe the AI would take pity on humankind and protect us. But an integration of human and machine makes the most sense to me before we have full sentient AI.

A little away from the topic but still.

  9. OP did you mean minimum guarantee like End all, or some of the welfare programs such as subsidized housing, SNAP program, etc and substitute them with monetary payment, or check direct to the welfare recipient?

It seems Murray Rothbury also shared this idea?

  10. I think op is talking about a world where machines do all the work and humans are guaranteed basic survival needs

    -Yuri

  11. So basically a world for fat lazy ass bottom feeders in Layman terms. Lol fk all that. There's already enough people sitting on there rather large ass' eating Cheetos and beating off to porn all day.

  12. more like a world where humans have evolved to a point where basic survival is no longer our primary concern

    -Yuri

  13. Ya same thing I said just I said it without the rose colored glasses fat lazy ass' depending on machines for basic survival....lol hell no ill never be that lazy. I can handle basic survival without getting winded.

  14. I agree with you in theory but there is a limit to how many new service jobs can be opened up. Eventually all the automation will catch up with us and I think we'll see an increase in unemployment for very low skilled workers in society, who will always exist. I do think it will be like anything crazy like great depression level unemployment. I do however think that it will become harder for poor people to get jobs since the low skilled ones are all the ones being automated. Just my .02 though, I'm not saying it as 100 percent truth or the end of the world or anything. Just something we should keep in mind.

Pick a career path that you can see yourself in, something you are passionate about. Get an entry level position and grind your fucking ass off. It might take a short period or a long period but keep at it. Apply for financial assistance if you have to but stick with it. Exude enthusiasm and prove time and again you are the man for the job, eventually it will pay off. I worked for 6 and a half years making just over minimum wage and now im making close to 80k a year. That's how it works in a capitalist country, your wage is dependent on what you bring to the table, there are no free handouts. I'm not saying it's fair but very few things in this life are.

  16. ^^ Excellent post! :D

I agree totally, as that has been my experience. :)

  17. I'm thinking of the direct system of payment. Instead of distributing this help through several dozen different programs, just give a some to everyone directly.

And in response to yuri, It seems with the way the discussion is going that a future as such would be the only climate that this program would be probable. Even with our level of abundance. Perhaps even more abundance is crucial to this idea.

  18. no. The idea is already possible. It's a matter of culture

We still have a culture mindset of everyone must earn their survival and work hard

    -Yuri

  19. no its not even close to the same thing

Fat and lazy? No. That's retarded and you know it.

People would still be productive. People still are.

Most people aren't satisfied with merely surviving and if not so worried about basic survival, many people would be more willing to work towards something significant other than manual labor.

Obviously there will he some fat lazy people. There already are. Bit that's NOT a bad thing.

    -Yuri

  20. lol no that's not retarded I think that you thinking people will still mainly be productive is retarded. I hate to tell you this but I'm allowed to have a different opinion then you. You do not know everything. Lots of us aren't so lazy we need a fake ass robot to do our work for us. For those who are lazy a fully automated world would be great for their fat ass'
