Is Hydroguard necissary for DWC?

  1. I'm starting my first top-fed DWC next week with six Fem. Black Domino seeds. Iv almost exhausted my funds, so I'm attempting to cut out some stuff. Can a Top Fed DWC with Advanced Nutrients pH Perfect Base Nutrients and Distilled Water thrive without root rot or any other plant illness? The tote I'm using will be sanitized before use as well as all other pieces that will be within. Do I need some sort of root inoculant?

  2. What you have will suffice if you keep light out, and temps down.

Some type of root inoculant never hurts though, I've used both hydroguard and homemade ewc to keep roots healthy.

  3. Oh ya be careful with the top feed thing alot of growers accidentally over saturate the root system on very young plants with those things.

  4. Agreed. Top feed isn't the best way to go, unless you know what you're doing.
A simple DWC with shit-tons of air pumped in is a much better route to start with.
No need for a water pump heating up the nutes.

  5. Hydroguard is cheap insurance really. Especially if you don't have a chiller. You only use 2ml per gallon. So, it's not like you go through a bunch of it.

  6. ahhh...a topic in direct relation to my year of research...here it is
1.there is no...NO....cure for root rot and root rot us a notorious bastard in dwc the biggest crop killer for dwc.
    2. There are only preventatives by way of water and internal in the plant
    3. If you do not have a chiller you can 97% guarantee certain death, frozen bottles will work but every four hours you should change them out.in concurrent to the importance of water temp is no...no light leaks.
Get at least one anti pythium addative to use with the chiller. With two no light and a chiller you are garunteed succses.

OK here's what you need to know yes it can be greatly possible without a chiller if you are going with an alive system not steril. You need teas micro biology tiny organisms.. Mychorize products for you to get for an alive dwc is hiezenberg tea...learn it do it use it it is the best preventative hands down... Never use h202 sm 90 physian dm zone noooo chemicle water conditioners while doing alive grow it will kill them an leave you rwnderous to rootrot ..don't want or have the time to create a tea get products like auqa sheild or hydro gaurd, sesyzyme ,great white , zho,sub culture b and m...all of this will work with no chiller if you can keep water temps between 65-70...but go the extra mile for surity try 63-68 degrees..sterile products will not work without a chiller period. Steril products if you run a sterile grow are this...use at least two. Uc roots, sm90,Dutch master zone ,pythoff, even cidex (look it up) physian 20 however mainly used to sterilize between weekly changeout and lastly and I do not recommend this period for nothing is h2o2....alive or sterile these are root innoculants they serve to protect roots by way of the water grab one or two choose alive or steril...now this you could use stand alone a systemic fungicide like organicide systemic fungicide it. Is uptook by the plant and is circulated within the plant kinds like a flu shot for us when flu is present.... Take your choice make your decisions but yes you will need some sort of preventative. I am doing steril I have allot if products but I have a chiller I will only be using the systemic fungicide for internally plant protection and a root/ water iniculant such as activonate..activonate us a water root innoculant fungicide you can use in steril and alive.along w my chiller I will be 100% sucsesful

  7. I'm still fairly new to growing and completely new to hydro in any form, between that and the punctuation I am lost. I appreciate the effort though. Will someone please tell me what I need to do? I'm not trying to create a death proof grow I just want a fighting chance. If it makes a difference, I'm using 2x large air stones in each tote, and I'm using most of Advanced Nutrients 'Tribes' specifically these:
    Big Bud
    Sensizym
    Overdrive
    Flawless Finish
    Bud Candy
    Bud Ignitor

Is the pH Perfect bundle preventative enough?

  8. I only read up to here and just started laughing.

I have done countless DWC runs. I have never owned a chiller and the only things I add to my reservoir is tap water, nutrients, pH down, and air. That's it, nothing else

  9. That's a lot of stuff to put in your res, do you really need all that ?

All you need a a single balanced complete nutrient and leave all that other crap alone. Nutes and pH adjusters is all you needs. All the boosters and magic potions create more problems than they solve.

Push 1 litre of air per minute for every 2 litres of nutrient solution and you shouldn't have any problems. Covering the top of the reservoir with reflective insulation will help keep the temperature down. As long as it's between 21 and 15 degrees it shouldn't be a problem

  10. I'm trying to grow a large amount of high quality stuff so I can fund a move. Do you have a better way to get as good of results? A lot of people have told me that Advanced Nutrients and there 'magic potions' can be helpful to novice growers. Kind of like training wheels for pot growers?

  11. Is Voodoo Juice by Advanced Nutrients enough of a micro bacterial stimulant?

  12. they just complicate things. At least for your first run keep it as simple as possible. That way there's less to go wrong.

Pick a nutrient that has everything you need and just use that. Keep your ppm the same as what the plants are taking up at any given time and keep your pH between 5 & 7 at all times and try to keep it between 5.5 & 6.5 as much as you can.

You put quite a list of products up there, what does each one do exactly? Plants need 13 minerals in the right proportions, you can buy one bottle that provides this

  13. what do you want a bacteria stimulant for?

  14. if people a really read
..I state u only need one maybe two products max. And the only way you can be successful with out a chiller isif your room is naturally cooler and temps were cooler I'm your surrounding environment..so in the summer months in Michigan u CAN and will fail by not getting a chiller...if you actually read you will get it right.it does state that as long as temps are below 70 for water you can be successful but most indoor with t5s outside the tent 1000w nside the tent its warm and a chiller is needed. I even have central a/c and water temp gets over 80.. So don't go knock it without reading it. And doom dumb dumb...u asked for a way I supplied a various method way here let me breakbit down simple for s simple man...yes hydrogaurd will work just fine...and yes voodoo juice will be just fine to prevent rootrot...as long as your water temps are below 70 degrees those products in conjunction are fine...and no..nowhere in growing will your nutes help!!!! Oh wtf its a simple world out there now days...if you won't take and consider peoples advise you should just get a book and or DVD on the subject. Which I noticed in another thread you had a complicated time understanding what some dood was advising you to do and when I read it made sense to me LMFÀO. But oh I need to go can't and shouldn't poke fun at someone who has answers I front of his face but he's too blind to see. Peace my friends much love for the grower

  15. I use hydroguard and think it is beneficial. It's cheap to use but everyone has to figure for themselves if it works for them. I can say I am 100 percent confident that, at the very least, it does no harm. I'll say I really live nice white roots. :)

  16. Sorry man, is didn't mean to disregard yours nor anyone else's advice. And for someone who didn't study DWC for a year its not the easiest thing to understand especially in the form its in. Even reading it now when I'm not super stoned its still a bit confusing but I think I understand the gist of it.

  17. And for the record everyone, most of those nutrients are used in small variations in the flowering period. In veg I am just using pH Perfect and Voodoo Juice.

  18. Good read here!

Running Hydroguard by itself wasn't sufficient for me. I needed to add a beneficial bacteria in addition to it to get my rot under control so I really recommend you look into those more than Hydroguard. If you're soup temps are over 70 degrees and you're not running any beneficial bacteria (voodoo juice if you want to stick with advanced) then it's a good chance you'll get rot. I tried doing dwc without anything and fought with rot on every attempt. Once I got my water temps under 68 and started adding voodoo juice and hydro guard I've had zero issues. I actually have one pot that sits at 73 degrees with a smaller air pump (about 120 GPH) and has no issues with those additives.

Really the way I look at it you have two options, 1) You don't want to have to deal with additions so buy an big air pump and a water cooler and run no additives for the rot, you shouldn't need it. 2) Go the cheaper route and buy a beneficial bacteria like voodoo and a good air pump and skip the expensive cooler you'll be fine with temps in the low 70's.

You can even brew your own cheap microbe tea for the bacteria and skip the expensive voodoo juice. I haven't done it but I know a lot of people on here go that route.

If you don't want to pay the price tag on voodoo or go to the work of brewing your own tea there are other microbe brews out there that are more reasonably priced than VJ. I haven't used them so I can't give you a recommendation but there's plenty of options, regardless of the source you choose I highly recommend adding the bacteria/microbes. You shouldn't need a cooler unless you're room is really hot and water temps are getting into the high 70's or 80's.

  20. water, air, ionic grow, and pH down =
