Indoor strawberry growing

  1. Has anyone ever attempted to grow strawberries or any other berry plants with an indoor setup? I've managed to sprout a few seedlings of a strain called Rügen, one of them is planted in a small cup for rooting. I'm running with a soil mix that is intended for most houseplants (pH 6,2) and if I recall correctly, a 120watt CFL.

There's not much info out there about indoor berry growing, so if you're informed and/or experienced, please share your knowledge, photos, anything! [IMG]

  2. I suggest growing them in something that you can move outside on warm days. If you grow totally inside and they flower then use a Q-Tip on each flower for them to bear fruit. Well drained household soil is totally fine. (6.0 to 6.5 PH) so 6.2 is perfect. Don't bury them too deep, the crown (The part with the new growth to the base of the current growth) should be exposed.

  3. Hello

I have had the exact same thought, and in fact there isn't really much info out there.
I will do some experiments this year, hopefully.

  4. Thanks for your input, friends! If you want, keep updating to this thread for I'm all eyes and ears for your individual experiences.

I'm currently growing the Rügen under a 90w LED (12-12 light period), mostly red diodes, I just nipped off one of two of the first buds. The other one may make a small fruit, but it's a 2 liter pot with soil so I'm not expecting it to finish the fruit. Whether or not it will, I'll replant it to a 10 liter one as soon as possible.
