Difference between 400, 600, and 1000 watt MH/HPS bulbs for veg

  1. We all know in theory that "more light = more growth" as far as flowering goes. But does the same necessarily apply to vegging as well? (And I know most people will typically say MH over HPS for veg but I'm including both so no one will get off topic to argue one vs the other.)

Say if you have three 6x6 rooms with 10 plants in each room, each containing a different wattage light (400, 600, and 1000watt), will the extra wattage really make a noticeable difference in how quickly the plants grows during the vegetative stage?

The reason I ask is to cut down on electricity in areas it isn't necessary, but I do not want to sacrifice the growth rate and end up with a smaller yield.

I'm assuming it will, but I'm curious to hear everyone else's experiences.

And also I would like to add that I'm not really looking for a straight forward clear cut answer because I know it's impossible to say with so many other factors coming into play (genetics, nutrients, fert, etc etc), but just a general rule of thumb I guess.
