I think this is the wrong section for this but the search function sucks and everywhere else I post BHO related questions they go unanswered so I ask here. To all you that make your own. On average what would produce a bigger yield? blasting an OZ of sugar trim, or a 1\4 of Nug? Just doing some research in regards to some pricing at a dispensary.
The trim. It will be slightly lower quality, but the more surface area would make for a much better yield. It depends on the quality of the trim though. I don't do BHO, but i do Qwiso runs on the shake, trim and sometimes bud my friends build up stashed around their houses. The shake is the best yielding but the lowest quality, the bud is the highest quality but least yielding, the trim is just as good as shake on yield, and much better quality, just under buds. Even when it's not the best trim, when i find fan leaves and stems mixed in i have to break or crunch. Again, i don't run BHO, but BHO yields better than QWISO almost 9/10, and is much better quality without question when made right. Also with BHO you don't have to worry about water solubles like with qwiso. So flavor should be better. As long as you freeze well you'll be fine. Just do your prep work. I'd go with the trim in your case. You'll get a much better yield than with a 1/4 of bud, slightly less flavorful, but just as good most likely.
Should switch to ethanol, qwiso no longer accepted as a safe solvent for extraction due to the under-regulated market
Ethanol is so expensive after awhile though. I'm right next door to jersey so i can get it whenever i want, and i get it every now and then when i have something special to run or when i plan to winterize, but i go through a bottle every other time i run it seems. When i have it it just stays in the freezer ready to go. Next time i'm in Jersey I'm gonna grab another 2 or 3. I guess it's nothing compared to tane in cost. And the looks you get, although you still get "looks" from people with 3 everclear bottles in arm, are nowhere near as bad as the looks from the cashier at the rite aid when you hand them 3 bottles of 99%.
