Please critique and help me enhance, I've read books I've done research and I've experimented and this is giving me this best results with what I have What I've been doing is grinding up fresh plant material; yesterday I did a run with trim I think my tube holds about an oz I got 1.75g of this Not shatter, I don't have a vacuum oven pump thing but it's potent and the taste is exceptional After I fill the tube; previous experiences I didn't pack the tube tight enough and the pressure of the butane would push the herb down into the bottom and I believe it wouldn't extract as well as packing it pretty tight, I use two coffee filters and I use one small piece of tape around the coffee filter than I place a pool clamp around the tape so there's a bit of cushion between glass and pool clamp, from this point I place the tube with ground material in the freezer, yesterday I did around 8 hours, today I'm getting impatient and curious how long others place in freezer for? I'll wait it out another few hours... Currently looking like Once the 8 hours unless someone convinces me it takes less time than that to freeze a tube of plant material in glass, I will start blasting into a Pyrex dish, I place the Pyrex dish in a bigger tray that's shorter and I place warm water in it, as the butane cools the water I add more warm water over flowing the container (but since my Pyrex is much taller I have no worries of water contaminating my bho. Once the majority of the bho is evaporated, or atleast when I feel safe bringing it inside I scrape the Pyrex dish and transfer to a noogoo 8x8 platinum silicone deep dish I spread out as thin as possible and start experimenting with different ways to purge the rest of the butane out, sometimes I put warm water in a frying pan and the nogoo tray floats and warms it up that way, I can start whipping it into wax, sometimes looking like this, but recently I've stopped, I've found instead of whipping and potentially degrading quality (I read that somewhere) to more so bake at a low temperature, I monitor the silicone tray frequently taking it out if it gets too hot and letting it cool on counter, I do this for quite a bit until there's no butane left, no bubbling at all, I have wondered if at this point I should cover the tray and let bho harder or if I should scrape into a lil pile of Idk wax? Gooey-er than in previous pictures Yesterday right after I scraped the blue silicone tray and it resulted in I'm really happy with the results but I'm sure there's some scientists on here that will rip me apart so let's have it
I'm sure jimmy will have lots to say but let's start with, don't grind the material. Break apart nugs, pack trim as is. If your pack is good then no need to grind unless you want extra chlorophyll.
Okay I'll just hippy pinch the whole tube lol I prob will run another run tonight or tomorrow Just made this
Yeah dont grind trim, only nugs should be ground and even then I would only grind if I'm dewaxing/winterizing. packing pretty tight is good, you dont want a bunch of gaps in your tube. And dont use the tape on your filters, the hose clamp is plenty. Theres a chance you'll be extracting some of the adhesive or something from the tape when the filter gets saturated with butane. If I freeze a tube I like to go 24hr, also make sure your freezer is on its coldest setting. When you're ready to bring it inside to finish puging, leave it on the pyrex. Don't scrape it up into that container until its been purged further. When its spread out thin on the purex it has the most surface area its gonna see, a lot more surface area than a little no-goo container. Since you dont have a vac you'll want your oil to be in a thin film so it can purge more effectively. Depending on how much oil is in your pyrex you should be okay leaving it on 100F heat covered with a cloth or something to keep dust out for 3-7 days. It seems like a lot but its worth it if you want good tasty errl. And if you prefer to whipped consistency, just make sure you've purged it a decent amount before whipping it into crumble. Making crumble with no vac actually has the potential to make oil with less residual solvent left in it but you gotta do it right. Making sure its purged a good amount before making it into wax will help ensure more tane is out.
Okay thanks, I just tried a run with nugs and cutting them up opposed to grinding and had a smaller return than the trim run I don't understand why, these were the big colas on the plant :-/
How much material did you run? and how much tane did you use? also, try blasting the tane in spurts, or going slow so it has more contact with your material.
You shouldnt need more than one can per ounce, try not to go over that. When I'm doing bigger runs with my 3ft long tube I can use half a can per ounce. I would try giving your tube a slower wash so the solvent has more time to extract oils from the plant material. Sometimes I'll stop blasting, but keep pressure in the tube, and let it soak for a minute or two before it gets all the way to the filters. Then after a good soak, blast the rest of the tane through. If it still yields low then thats just what the material yields, not every batch is a winner.
It's weird to think the trim off the buds would produce as much bho as the actual buds, you think me running another can through now would be pointless?
I'm busting up what came out of the extraction tube and with my eye loop I can still see crystal, I'm guessing your logic to not bust was not to damage The crystal, but have you done studies on extraction rate comparing grinded herb to this? Or is this simply too big hippy pinched Or could I have packed too tight? I can see the crystal I know it didn't extract it all.....
No, dont run more through it, save the material to make edibles or something with because you'll just be wasting solvent making more oil with it, it wont yield much of anything. The 'crystals' are trichomes, they are still present after an extraction. You dont really dissolve the entire trichome when you make oil, the waxy husk should be left behind after the solvent has pulled the oils inside the heads. dont use isopropyl to make anything that will be smoked or eaten, its poison.
Jimmy Carter, is it worth using cannabis from one bho run (25 grams cannabis 300 ml butane) mixed with fresh cannabis for edibles?
I believe a high yield return is 20-25%. My tube holds 24-30 grams and average a 4-5 gram return off popcorn and good sugar leaf off a high grade medical grow.
Sure you could do that, would make it a little more worth it. Yeah you should be getting anywhere from 10-20%, you can get higher but its not as common unless you're growing/getting some real proper fire. Theres a lot of determining factors that come into play when talking about yield. My highest yield from nugs was 26.5%
I did buy a smaller tube for smaller amounts I'll keep experimenting with different consistencies of product in tube I get about 20-25% off of bud I buy lol If I extract 20g sometimes I get like 4-5g
